Two Canada Geese in a stand off with a small herd of cattle. Who's going to win? Who's the bravest goose? Taken near Isleham Lock, on the River Lark, in Suffolk, as we passed by in our boat.

I can hear their babies. Geese are very protective of their babies, especially when they're first hatched. I don't blame them for not wanting the big cattle around. They could step on a gosling and hurt it easily even by accident.
@uncklebuckle68597 жыл бұрын
I kinda doubt the goslings are hatched yet, because we can't see them (I hear the chirping you reference, but I think it's other bird sounds). Goslings can move around within about 10 hours of hatching, and if hatched they would be right by the mother. But they are DEFINITELY protecting a nest.

Cow #3: "Look, just let each of us get two mouthfuls and we'll leave." Mr. Goose: "Foul creatures! BEGONE!" Cow #4: "Did he just call us 'fowls'? I am really confused." Cow #1: "No, he said 'foul' as in evil or disgusting." Mrs. Goose: "You're a pack of future hamburgers and you're in our turf! Scram or we'll turn you into hamburger right now." Cow #3: "Now, I'm just going to take one little, eensy-weensy nibble and then..." Mr. Goose: "Stop eating our lawn! I'm gonna carve you up if you try it again. Those guys in the boat will have steak for dinner tonight." Cow #4: "I think he's bluffing. They're just little birds watch as I..." Mrs. Goose: "THEN IT'S WAR THEN! AAAAIIIEEEE!!! Cow #4: "Ahh! Heeelp!! Momma!" Cow #3: "Is that a butcher knife in her beak? She's a psychopath!" Cow #1: "Yipe! Run!" Mr. Goose: "Trust me. She doesn't need a butcher knife. We'll both carve you up." Cow #2: "Hey, those human in the boat are still filming us. I think we just ought to walk away before this gets any worse for us. Cow #1: "Yeah...I think you're right. Alright, herd, just walk away. My mother, all my life, "Geese are mean!". She greatly resented relocating from the big house in town out to the farm after her Grandfather payed off his depositors with personal finances when the depression closed the banks. My family owned the bank in the tiny Minnesota town. She didn't like outhouses, either. But she really hated geese!

@OntarioTrafficMan6 жыл бұрын
In this case the geese did appear to be protecting the perimeter of a nest, but living in Canada I can tell you that they will also attack you for plenty of other reasons, such as if they're sitting in the middle of the footpath and you're just trying to walk by them. Any other animal would just move to the side to let people by. Geese will defend that piece of land they arbitrarily claimed. They don't even move when they're standing in the middle of the cycle path and you're riding at them ringing your bell, they just stand and hiss at you. I've twice played chicken with them on a bike and they won both times, though one flinched at the last second before I swerved.

Geese are great. They mate for life and are intensely loyal to their mates and young, and very territorial when defending them. In this clip you can see the one goose is full of eggs, and the gander is just trying to defend her and the little spot they've staked out. They don't know if the cows are friendly, they just see a pack of huge creatures surrounding them. It's kinda beautiful how these little 10 pound birds are willing to confront almost anything if they feel it threatens their mate or their young.

The Geese remind me of Democrats and the Cows are Republicans. The Geese/Democrats are loud, vile, angry, and vicious. The Cow is just minding its own business, just trying to live life. The Goose/Democrat wants to remind the Cow how annoying it is, and try to ruin its day so the cow can be as miserable as it is. That's the most accurate comparison you will ever hear. LOL!
