Fantastic job, Thanks! I've been playing guitar since 1982, and just recently have learned, from you thanks, the tricks to the sliding 6ths, the double stops, and how simple the chord parts over the cords are so cool. I'm into the band Blackberry Smoke right now and Charlie Starr certainly employs these tricks for his killer solos as well.

This was a terrific lesson. Thank you! I learned the rhythm open G version of this song and play it all the time. Naturally, I became envious of some of those beautiful licks. I figured a few out for myself, but this lesson really gives me exactly what I need. Now I can throw a few of those in when I'm playing, but I can just play along with Keith's solo. Thanks again - I just subscribed.

I have been watching several of your videos and would like to add my voice to all the others congratulating you here. I bought Sticky Fingers album the day it was released and have always liked this track. You get a great tone and balance the lesson with useful bits of theory. Similar to a lot of Mick Taylor's work with the Stones, this is a great example of restraint, sampling chord fragments to build a meaningful solo.

Good job explaining everything. IMHO: I do hear that E note pull-off in the solo but it is very faint. Also, on the intro I'm hearing those dyads sliding in so that it ends on the G/B dyad with just one final stroke and then sustains.
@SteveGunns
@SteveGunns 7 жыл бұрын
He actually plays that little pull-off from the 12th to the 8th fret before the C Minor Pentatonic lick in the solo

Super lesson One tiny criticism on the sound, I don't know if it's my ears or some KZbin artefact, but it sounds like there's some weird (dynamic) compression going on with far too slow attack and release on it.. Could be the camera mic overloading? Makes it a little unpleasant to listen to. But again great lesson, really good to get this level of analysis.
@heinzhelbling
@heinzhelbling 11 ай бұрын
great! Thank you! I hear in the intro solo the 2 tones from the G chord dropping down to the A minor chord - but dropping down a little later, playing just the last tone of the A minor chord tones. Maybe I heard a different version...am I right or wrong? Best wishes from Bavaria in Germany!

Thank you for such an interesting lesson - with a little goldmine of information. One interesting comment you made though has slightly given me pause for thought: You said Keith was in open tuning. I knew that the chordal progression was played in open G BUT are you saying that the leads/solo/fills were also played on an open G tuned guitar - not standard tuning as you are playing here?
@Hoodrio
@Hoodrio 4 жыл бұрын
Paul Tillett That was when I was talking about the chord progression. I said that Keith is playing an ADDITIONAL acoustic track on a 12 string in open tuning. The leads are played in standard tuning as a show here. Thanks for your comments!

@Hoodrio
@Hoodrio 9 жыл бұрын
WRONG. Quote from Mick Taylor himself: "What about “Wild Horses”? On “Wild Horses” I played acoustic guitar in what they call a Nashville tuning, which is tuned in exactly the same way, but you use all 1st and 2nd strings [high E and B strings], and you tune them in octaves [i.e., you tune them up an octave]. So you’re really playing in the same tuning - it’s kind of like playing a 12-string guitar without the other six strings. That’s the best way to describe it. This was on one of Keith’s Gibson acoustic guitars. Who plays the electric solo? On “Wild Horses”? Keith."

I know this is 7 years late, but I was wondering if you could tell me how you getting that beautiful twangy tone. I have a MIM 50’s style Tele….is that the neck pick up, and just a lot of reverb with a driven amp? Obviously lot of the tone is in your fingers, but if you happen to see this, and can give me quick “amp/guitar/pedal setting” I would so appreciate it. I haven’t played my Tele in years, but when I get home from work I’m gonna bust it out and try this solo and fills. Btw, you are an excellent, excellent teacher, and I would know, I’m a History teacher😃
