We see them all the time here in the Puget Sound area. They'll swim right by paddle boarders and kayaks and are so careful not to make waves and knock anyone over. The Native American tribes in the Pacific NW consider orcas a totem; protectors of humanity. They are carved on buildings and totem poles all over the place.

These are sentient beings. Anyone who thinks keeping them in a tank and forcing them to do tricks is okay needs to reexamine their conscious. The orca with it's dorsal hacked off was so sad. It looks like it was done by some type of propeller because of how clean it was.

wow. I love how they are so close and they rub against and caress one another. It's crazy how you can just feel/see how intelligent they are. And oh so curious. :) It was almost like the older Orcas were bringing the baby to the boat as part of it's daily lessons. "Son, this is a boat. You can sometimes get the people on the boat to feed you. Stay away from that rudder." lol

Me to! I know id be nervous but i know for a fact they are no harm to humans unless they feel threatened . I watched a video and a killer whale had damaged a part of the boat that helped the boat steer.. and the killer whale did it because the guys were Whalers. And a couple other whaler boats had the same incident happen to them . Which bring back to when i said orca are no harm to humans unless they feel threatened. By us. They are very smart. So they know who is trying to harm them.

This video of a pod of Orcas is amazing but also sad. They are way to comfortable with being so close to that boat It appears this pod has established the mind set, that boats may mean a free and easy meal. They most likely have either been purposefully fed from a boat or they have come across fishing boats and have been desensitized to not steer clear of them. Once a boat motor gets going, the noise level from the motor makes it very difficult for them to communicate with each other and are unable to alert each other to retreat when the object that peaked their curiosity becomes dangerous. They are also often curious about the rotor blade and the wake that it creates. A lot of them get killed because of this curiosity or by the lure of a quick and easy meal. Sometimes even by fishermen who purposely and illegally kill them so they don't steal any of their catch for the day, damage the boat or their fishing equipment. These beautiful and majestic creatures are so intelligent. Their ability to come together and establish new and very coordinated hunting techniques is mind blowing. It does not surprise me in the least that the pod off the they Spanish Coast have been aggressive and damaging to some boats. Scientists say its not premeditated but I honestly think they are trying to safeguard the Orcas. Which is smart, that way people do not feel more comfortable with purposely killing them and claiming self defense. I think the Orcas in the Pod off the Spanish Coast have established boats as a threat due to them previously witnessing them kill Orcas within their Pod. I mean look how long that one Orca J35 carried her deceased calf with her before she finally let it go. To say they don't act out because of emotional distress in the wild and with their level of intelligence, seems far fetched to me. If they ever become extinct and they are on the fast tract of becoming just that. I will be heartbroken.

Yes amazing marine mammals. No we didn't touch them. We have a rule with marine life, "look, but don't touch". Not so brave either we were on the boat and there are no recorded attacks by Orca on humans in the wild. They are extremely intelligent and highly specialised in their hunting and pod behavior. The NZ pods specialise in hunting stingray which is what we think this pod was doing before it came over to us. Thanks for watching :)
