I was in Ocean Falls in the late 70’s, as a commercial fisher. It was thriving then, a few places were closed but they had an indoor pool, a bank, bowling alley and a very large grocery store. It was part of Brick, a crown corporation that the government tried to support the population up there. Brick Shares.
@AllisonandJamesSailing11 ай бұрын
Very cool! It was all but abandoned a decade later I guess! We read the BC government purchased the town, mill and all else for just under a Million dollars? We visited the ol bank Inn, seen relics of the bowling alley & famous pool - neat so many Olympic athletes came out of there!

Love your videos and like I’ve said in the past your photography is also outstanding. If I were you guys I’d consider having a photo book made or even start with just a calendar with some of your outstanding photos and put them up for sale. I would certainly purchase one. Thanks for sharing.

Awe, this is the second time this week someone has requested images we've captured. Perhaps we will look into putting some in an online shop with revenue going towards the continued production of our content :) Curious, what sort of photos would you like to see there? (Landscape? Wildlife? Images including the boat or without?) - Thank you so much!

It is customary to build a sound-proof box around the yacht’s diesel. This is built of marine plywood, lined on the inside with a sound-absorbent lining.
@AllisonandJamesSailing8 ай бұрын
Sound proofing the engine bay is a little tricky on Catalina 30's due to the location of the engine

I loved the grizzly. And on drinking and sailing: With my volleyball team our adagium was "We take another 16 beers and then we go home". At the time I had a small sailboat and the main setter on the team joined me whenever he could. That was according to the same adagium, only 6 guys less. Robert, the setter, sitting and drinking beer in the cockpit once said: "Next time I see the boat come near......I will jump on it".
@AllisonandJamesSailing11 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed Gert! Allison was big into volleyball as well, she played for years and went to Nationals. She also really enjoys beer, go figure! Wishing you a wonderful holidays, we'll see you in the New Year, cheers!

@@AllisonandJamesSailing Great. In the late seventies I almost made it to the national team in Holland. Actually I was the last player they said goodbye to. That pissed me off and so I started my own club with players that just wanted to have fun. At the same time I started sailing and bought more guitars. CU in 2024.

You sailed past where Alexander McKenzie wrote his name on the wall in 1792. Did you stop and look? That bay is also a good anchorage.

Beautiful guys, loved watching it, and I’m so happy to see your online community growing! I have a question from the perspective of someone who has no idea what he’s talking about, you mentioned having small water storage capacity, is it possible to use some of those waterfalls to replenish onboard supplies? I’m not sure how that would fare on the hygiene front, but I don’t think it would be any worse than much of the water supply in Kempsey from when James was a kid 😂
@AllisonandJamesSailing10 ай бұрын
Heya Pip! You’re spot on, water quality up here is far superior to that of the supply in kempsey! We totally could replenish from our water tanks from natural sources and if push came to shove we wouldn’t hesitate! On this cruise we pretty well ran out of all of our food supplies (the wine was also running dangerously low) so being low on water was more of a compounding factor that bought us back to civilization :) thanks for following along on our adventure mate! Really appreciate hearing from you! Hope you’re well buddy!

Where was that hot spring? And how do you find places like that??
@AllisonandJamesSailing10 ай бұрын
Quick Google of Hot Springs on the BC coast and you should be able to find it and others like it! BC parks I think has an online brochure about them all. This one is called Eucott Hot Springs

LOVE your videos! ❤ Excellent photography; tasteful music; smart commentary. Not sure that that was a grizzly though; looked more like a black bear to me. Still...pretty cool eh?! BC's coast is a jewel. Colour me envious! Thanks so much.

OK OK; now I see the hump and you're right - probably a grizzly. Sorry about that!

Always looking for new to me sailing channels… I get so bored with most of the bigger ones and love the more down to earth ones. It took me years of watching to realise it is the people who make it good. Really loved your passage from Australia to New Zealand. And you are both so obviously genuine and normal. You joke about bikinis… but some of the channels it’s just ridiculous and embarrassing and one of the things which gets me moving on looking for something new. There should be a category for normal sailing… my heroes are channels like Sailing Florence & Calico Skies & The Sailing Brothers… not the ‘4 Bs’ channels: business, bikinis, bullsh1t and b roll.
@AllisonandJamesSailing11 ай бұрын
Awesome you stumbled on our crossing video and found us! So glad you enjoyed the film!! Nothing against bikinis overall but it is a shame they are a necessary tactic to get noticed on this platform. It's really difficult to break thru as a small channel these days.. But we've somehow managed to gather a great supportive community on here and we're really stoked about that! We're also always looking for other channels to support and have heard great things about those, we'll be sure to check them out! Thank you for being here!

Isn't that a black bear
@AllisonandJamesSailing11 ай бұрын
It may appear that way because it's darker colored! Grizzly bears have a prominent hump between their front shoulder blades, pronounced longer noses and concave faces, all of which this bear was proudly sportin from our view! www.bearsmart.com/about-bears/know-the-difference/
@MVSKOOKUM111 ай бұрын
That is a grizzly! A young fellow too. Aren’t they so majestic! The hump is deff there and that’s their signature. Black bears don’t have the hump 😊
