Yep, they are extremely powerful animals, and they can be aggressive for no reason apparent to us. Also, there is a reason they are called sea 'lions' ... just look at the teeth they have on them. (That's probably not what gave them their name, of course, but there is no way I'd get close to that mouth.)

Well, mostly it is because if you feed them or become too close to them they can become dependent on the person. They have been known to becme more fat and lazy when in contact with humans which is very bad for their health.

When I was a little kid at Ocean Shores (Washington), a mother seal was crying for her baby. Some monsters had run her baby over, and she didn’t want to go back. She just kept crying. People were keeping her wet, and getting her food, but she wouldn’t eat. I sat with her, and in my little kid way, said “I’m sorry they killed your baby. They are bad people, but your baby would want you to go back and be happy, not sad. That’s what I would want for my Mom.” I just sat and talked to her about it, as silly as it seems. There was distance between us (wildlife is wildlife), but she looked at me, and looked over at my Mom and sister, and started heading back to the water. As silly as it sounds, I hope my child self comforted her a bit, because I do think her baby would want her to go on. The couple who had spent the last 3 days trying to keep her alive asked what I did, and I just said “I would want my Mommy to be happy, and that’s what I think her baby wants too. That bad people can’t take that away.” The lady who had been helping her was very sweet and hugged me. They kept that seal going like rockstars. I guess what I’m trying to say is, there is a universal language of compassion we can all share, and it costs nothing, but is the greatest gift we can give to others. Stay safe, take care of yourselves, and each other 🩷🩵

They spoke each other's language. Their own "love language". So, the sea lion passed near your home.. so no wondering? They shared an appreciation for each other, despite their extreme differences. They saw past those. Amazing story. Sad sea lion had to leave after only a couple years. Their thrill at seeing each other, and playing together, was amazing to witness

That's so precious to see the relationship two living beings had for such a special time in thier lives. And I had to rewind the part toward the end where Slim jumped over the wave as it began to crest - you know that's an ocean dog when he's jumping waves like a human would! Thankfully the sea lion made friends with a dog and his mom who knew better than to rush up to it and pretend like it was time to pose for IG pictures. People do that with wildlife constantly and I want to slap them cross-eyed for being stupid. If you bumrush a bear and her cubs for "cute" pics, you deserve everything you get. If you run towards an antelope for pics&think you can outrun it, you DESERVE to be trampled under its hooves. It's not the animals' fault you're a dumba$$.

I must confess I wasn't expecting the end. It saddened me immensely. Yes, I am very happy and touched that they shared a very unique and inexplicable friendship for two lovely years. But, learning that the sea lion passed away practically brought me to my knees. It hurts not to know what the dog might be thinking about his friend's absence. Is he still waiting for him?
