Wild Tigers Terrorise Village in Thailand Today!

A news report about a man who came across 3 wild tigers and was attacked attracted our attention. Myself and Jimmy (JB Wanders) decided to investigate, our investigations lead us to a shocking conclusion…there is a village in Thailand that is still being terrorised by wild tigers today.
We travel to beautiful Pilok in Kanchanaburi Province Thailand where we made local enquiries to try to find the man who was attacked. Although he does live in that area his village is remote and will involve a steep 60 km drive and over an hour on a boat to reach.
When we found him he talked to us about the incident and other recent events that were still ongoing and discusses how the conservation of tigers in Thailand isn’t as straight forward as it might at first appear to be.

I wonder if the tigers were just staking their territory or actually hunting. It seems a bit odd to encounter three Tigers at once, they are not pack animals and I don't think they usually hunt in packs. Wild tigers are usually solitary and get into fights with other tigers if they enter their territory. They might have been young though, maybe a litter that hasn't split up yet.

It’s possible, Jim Corbett, the old tiger hunter in India did manage to video many tigers together at least once in the wild. Although I agree it’s unusual I think it is possible if the population density is sufficient. Tigers are expanding their ranges in that area, something inevitable with population increases. Like you say they could be from a single litter

Been looking forward to this since you mentioned it on Thairish Times. Sangkhlaburi is a fascinating place with a diverse range of people. I heard the tigers had been fleeing the violence caused by the Tatmadaw on the Burmese side. I understand why they might not believe that, but I can believe it myself!

Fantastic video! I've been watching your youtubes since the beginning and the vids are partly responsible for my returning to Thailand (this Oct - Dec) since the 1990's - I may just move over there in a year or two. I would think that some news agencies would be very interested in this content, the backstory and especially your interview with the victim. Is there some way I could send that guy a few dollars? Anyway thanks much - I've enjoyed the JB Wanders pt 1 & 2 videos of this as well & am looking forward to pt 3.

Tigers are still a very rare animal in Thailand but that region is in what they call the "Western Forest Complex" in which the population is increasing. Actually it's currently one of the few tiger conservation success stories. Of course this makes encounters with man more likely as their numbers increase. I'm still in touch with Wan occasionally and intend to return there at some point. Cheers

RE: the last part about whether the tigers are being prioritized over the humans, I was reminded of a recent VICE report about labor in the fishing industry and thought: 'fish are more important than people, why not tigers?' I am unsure about how safe it is to be openly critical of official policy, so I can understand discretion regarding covering this. Thanks for the video. 🙏

It’s definitely a complex issue morally. I love tigers and are thrilled that there numbers in certain parts of Thailand are increasing. When there are population density increases and the tigers spread out to find their own territory then human contact becomes more likely. I can see and appreciate both sides of the argument.

Amazing story and stunning scenery. It raises real questions about the conservation of tigers and the terrifying impact that they can have on the local population. Great work karl exploring far flung areas of Thailand i have seen victims of tigers and leopards attacks in 30 seconds of encounter these Felin could give you deadly wounds but fighting tiger for 30 mins sounds a bit fishy he might be playing with him or not in mode to kill yes there can be three tigers mother and cubs at same time maybe one of cub could have attacked him.
@karlsthailand
@karlsthailand 3 ай бұрын
In the interview he expresses puzzlement that the tigers seem to have poor hunting and killing skills. He also expressed a suspicion that the tigers may have been released there. Certainly there are questions to be asked but I do believe he was attacked. In another video I included a few seconds of news footage of him being transported to hospital and his injuries appeared to be extensive.

Interesting story Karl! Strange indeed that 3 tigers would attack a human without fear!? Where the tigers adults or youngsters, as they normally hunt alone? One reason for 3 tigers together would be if they were siblings from the same mother, as they would normally not tolerate other tigers except during mating! I think the chances are greater that someone has released domesticated tigers that has been brought up in a zoo or something and hence are not afraid of humans!? Or.. Maybe the National Park in secret buys and releases tigers in the area to " boost " the wild population!? 🤨
@karlsthailand
@karlsthailand Жыл бұрын
It raises so many questions doesn’t it? I discussed with the author of another comment the chance of them all being from the same litter, certainly possible. However it is not unknown for several tigers to be together when population density is high enough. Certainly not typical behaviour though.

Much as you don't want to see people get mauled by tigers, if they can't find habitat, food, and refuge in a National Park, then where. You have told me stories about other attacks in Thai parks, and have met a ranger who shot a 'rogue' tiger after an attack. Maybe there should be area's where locals are not allowed to live, but will always be difficult when young tigers seek new territory. Seems more about now than 15-20 yrs ago.

It’s a difficult situation for sure Chris, as populations increase in the Western Forest Complex then clashes are more likely to occur. The Karen had to fight hard to get the right to remain in some of the protected areas which now cover a large part of their lands

You filmed that man and put that online, so it would be fair to give him some money for the interview. As you didn't mention anything about that and did not show in the video that you gave him something, it is disturbing to watch. Too many youtubers just take for granted to get good interviews without compensating anything to their interview partners, especially when it's obvious that there are in trouble. And if you gave him some money, show it in the video, to make an example to many other youtubers.

@@karlsthailand it’s a shame you did this one as it could affect your credibility concerning your other videos which are very good and interesting…..just saying, bit of positive criticism……maybe in hindsight would have been an idea to add a disclaimer to that effect at the end:)

Dave, this is my final reply to you on this topic. You are of course entitled to believe what you like about this, you can Google it, try "Tiger attack kanchanaburi 2022". There's definitely some strange things about this attack which Wan acknowledges. While you're at it try Googling "Tiger 3 legs Thailand" for a picture of 'Tony" lol, the 3 legged tiger recently photographed in this area. You can check out another one of my videos for an interview with another guy who survived more than 20 minutes with a wild tiger and also search for reports from the time of that incident kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5yUo6SAg72njtU . As for 3 tigers being together? yes, very unusual but I know Jim Corbett once filmed several wild tigers together. Tigers numbers are increasing in the Western Forest Complex in which he lives and even Wan finds it suspicious as he outlines in the interview. There I've addressed your points. So please do your own research if it's important to you. If you don't believe his story that's fine but I'll consider anymore discussion on the comments section as unwanted. You are welcome to email me if you genuinely want to discuss it more thailandkarl@yahoo.co.uk

@@karlsthailand fair enough Karl, and so also my final say on the topic is my criticism was of the fake story and not of you, so don’t take it personally. End of discussion:)

"Are tigers being put before people", why shouldn't they be, they have as much right to live there as the villagers, if not more, whose encroaching on whose land.

I love tigers but I can definitely see both sides of the argument. The wildlife authorities have had great success in increasing tiger numbers in that area. As the population increases so does the risk of encounters with humans
