Love the channel guys! I think you need to find a way to do these drinkthroughs(TM) blind. Knowing what each bottle is has a strong influence on perception. You could do these all blind and each choose your favourite as a bonus video for your community members.

The 13-year is no longer on retail shelves in Japan. It's been discontinued for quite some time and was "replaced" by the 12-year. You can find the 8-year at literally any grocery store that sells alcohol. For the 12-year you'll need to look at alcohol specialty stores like Yamaya, Shinanoya, or a large department store like Takashimaya. Kanpai!

I have to wonder it something (bad) happened to that 12 year in it's export and re-import journey. Just doesn't make sense that it lost that much flavor. WT should sell age stated 101 here damnit.

My Australian bottle of WT101 12YR is amazing, blows WT101 8YR out of the water. Other people who tried agreed. Maybe something happened to your reimported bottle?

Water the 12 year 101 proof to 91 proof like the 13 year and see if the flavor becomes similar. It would be interesting to know if the 13 year is the lower barrel entry proof stuff and the 91 proof is close to barrel proof for it. 13 year reminds me of the Diamond edition.

I wonder if the Wild Turkey 13 underwent a change of recipe recently. It's currently 16,000 yen in Japan ($110 thanks to the weak yen).

Nice comparison review. I just tried 8 and 12 recently, and couldn't agree more. 12 is just way to mellow and flat. All I can get is sweet sugar and ginger. For the price and flavor profile, I will pick 8 year anytime because I like that extra oakiness. The price of 1 liter 8 year at Bic Camera in Japan is 3499 yen ($23.11 usd) tax free. Even in Taiwan the price is also very available, 8 year 700ml for $21.91 usd.

Problem with WT... their best bang for buck is the 101. Most of the other products, other than the 13 if you get it for overseas price, are just over priced for the bourbon. The master's keep series has gone off the deep-end on price/quality. Russel's 10 is a bargain 10 year age statement (and drinks like a 30-40 bottle). The only domestic WT bottle I keep is 101 and for Russel's it's a Private Barrel Select if the age and rick are decent. Oh, I forgot about Rare Breed... Rare Breed is SOLID but now that it's $50-60 it's up against so many heavy hitters that it's status as a quality affordable high proof bourbon is greatly diminished. My shelf is COVERED in $50 bottles that I prefer over Rare Breed now. Compare WT to Jack Daniels where their budget bottles are pretty gross (unless mixed with Coke) but each rung above the basic bottle is actually a better value (excluding Sinatra, but that a bottle to bamboozle new collectors and old people). The JD SBBP series and the Special Releases are cheap and killer. The Special Releases and age stated bottles are tough to find but I've been able to land pretty much everything other than Coy Hill for MSRP. Even if I couldn't find the Twice Barreled Rye or American Single Malt (currently my favorite American Malt under $100) I'd be perfectly happy picking up the SBBP Whiskey and Rye's for $60-65. On the flip side... I NEVER find WT special releases or age stated bottles at MSRP. Because of the pretty box those things always either go in a raffle or get marked up.

I just picked up the 8 year for 4700 yen in the Narita airport's duty free, which should be about 32 USD. This is for a 1L, which is insane. Granted this is $32 which doesn't include the ticket cost to travel. So you just have to wish for a free ticket to Japan.

Literally just watched your first drinkthrough the other day, what a coincidence! Haven't tried any besides the 101, but for my budget, it's my #1 go-to. Anyways I've been wanting to get a bottle of rye, would you guys recommend the 101 Rye for my first? Or is there another in the same price range you'd pick over it

hard to beat the 101 rye price point. Old forester rye is another cheap one - definitely more on the "bourbon spectrum" - but a good value too.
