At least the drone (and you) made it off the hill in one piece. I’m 63 and like yourself, really grateful that I’m still able to get out and do the stuff. Now it’s all about playing the long game, keeping the weight down, looking after joints and making sure I don’t come a cropper falling down things, into things or off things. 👍🏻👍🏻

You are so right. Time stands still for no one, and if we don't listen to our bodies telling us that, we get injured because of our own impatience with ourselves, and then we can't do any of it until we heal - and hope we heal well. Just like you are telling yourself, I'll also say - just enjoy the journey. It's not a race. It's a way to RELAX and take int he beauty of nature in our own time - because time waits for no one. So slow it down, enjoy, relax and be safe. As usual, enjoyed this episode. A nice secluded spot you found! Good thing the midges don't bite!! and thanks for sharing it with us.

At 56 I was running my 100th marathon. Now 7 yrs later I am starting to venture into wild camping and looking forward to walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way next week. Like you I have slowed down to the point now where I don't care what position I come in the race, I've also had quite a few DNFs which can be soul destroying, but at least we are getting out, staying fit and enjoying life. Loving the channel BTW. Oh and I took a gossamer gear the one on the coast to coast walk 2 years ago, didn't like it! couldn't get on with the condensation.

Hi, Richard. Great video as usual. You are right about being too hard on yourself. I knew someone that started running the London Marathon when it first started, and he became fixated with running his whole life against the clock. Speaking as a shocking perfectionist myself whose mind races at a 100 miles an hour, I had got to the stage where nothing I did was good enough, I had to push and push myself. I learned a lesson climbing Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon. I was walking with a friend who was a foot taller than me and making myself utterly miserable because I was trying to keep up. I sent my friend on to do what tall people do and I slowed right down, thought about the placement of every step, listened to the wind, the sound of my boots on the path, the birds and sheep. It was a fantastic walk. Stay in the moment, don't think about what's ahead and don't think about what has just passed. Turn off the timing devices, people have been walking for eons without them. Best of luck and happy walking.

I'm 50 and while it usually doesn't bother me a bit, last week I was hiking with a 28-year-old woman, and when she ran up a hill and I trudged behind her, that's when I thought "I'm getting old"... and I hope you don't find it offensive, but I chuckled a bit when the drone hit a tree in a landscape essentially bereft of trees... good thing it (and you) survived with little damage done.

Hello Richard, from NZ. I used to get angry with myself over my speed and pace, but now I am content with my travel times and speed. I'm 75 and been in the mountains for 50+ years, I still carry up to 25 kgs, when you get older, you lose speed but gain stamina. I recently finished a 3-day tramping trip (hiking) and the last day was, 15 hours,2 mins and 42seconds. (Including a climb out of the valley 1400m). I did the trip on stopwatch. To date I've completed 39 tramps so far, this year. My fittest years were the forties and fifties. So, stop beating yourself up and go with the flow, ageing comes to us all, had to smile when you past by those two women, over here we would stop and have a chat about the state of the track and weather on the tops. English reserve a. Enjoyed the video. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ ☺☺

Fairplay 👏. I gotta say this was an inspiration to me as I have dodgy knees and it'll push me to lose a few pounds and get more active. A 4:41 s recently due to the double melon knee I haven't been out for a wild camp hike for a couple of years . And yeah agreed you can still do this sort of stuff at a slower pace and really take in your surroundings (its not a race Richard have a word with yourself) Cool that you got the drone back although the risk assessment sounded risky 😂. Should of saved the double decker for the drone retrieval 😊.. enjoy your videos a lot so keep on keeping on 👌.. looking forward to the next one .. Wonderful video Richard, thank you. I was wondering what you were up to (obviously, drone-rescues..!). That were Yorkshire, ther, right proper! I love your “local” videos, they do so remind me of my near-20 years living in Yorkshire. Do you ever get to Long Preston? Some nice country there, where I learned to run. Try it if you will. But go easy on yourself, and enjoy what you do. You only have to compete with yourself you know! I did the London Marathon five times, 1999 - 2003, and the last time I went to the line thinking “This is going to hurt. I don’t really want this..” I pretty well gave up running at that point (well, after the event of course!). I occasionally jog a bit, but at 77, I have to accept that age takes a toll, like it or not🥹. Take care mate! Les

Another enjoyable video Richard, thankyou for taking us along. 😊 I know often we feel like we aren't good enough at doing things but once you allow yourself to let go of your own negative thoughts the more you will enjoy everything. I have always been bullied, even as an adult and made to think I was worthless because of my size. I finally decided to just do what I wanted regardless of what others thought. I camp, although I can't hike anymore I still walk, swim and do what I can. I now think anyone who can't accept me for who I am and how I look it's their loss not mine. Oh the Heather looks so pretty. Does Heather have a fragrance at all? We don't have it here in Australia but when I see photos it reminds me of my dear mother who's name was Heather. Keep enjoying your adventures. Take care, Jennylee

Slow down ya daft sod! There, that's you told! A few ideas that came to mind that might inspire you to dawdle a bit more: challenge yourself to learn the local plant life - take some ID books and teach yourself what's there; likewise the wildlife; photography - look for the defining still shot of each area; read up on the history of an area and try and identify the landscape features associated with it. Anything in fact that gives you an alternative focus and encourages you to be nosey about what you see around you. In my head you're reading this thinking 'hate that, no interest in that, don't be daft...' but hey, I tried 🤪 All the best Richard, and I hope you do find ways to make the journey as inspiring as the destination. New watcher here, but at least you seem to realise when you're making uncalled for asks. I do the same thing at 44, and have to also force myself to realise I'm doing it. Also, it's not just you having to realise: "odd" bit of weather ATM (I measured 30°c last Wednesday when my wife and I were doing the limestone way and I was pushing us to pick up the pace: totally unnecessary to do that, but in my head I have a mileage and by god we're doing it. Until I realise that's stupid.) Also, was trying to work out why I sort of recognised where you were until you mentioned the Wharfe Valley. Think we've wandered around there regularly, us being right on the Shipley-Settle-Carlisle line? I'm probably wrong. /trying to be vague for various don't mention the spot & privacy reasons, btw.
