I tried doing the external hard drive part with GTA 5. I moved my PS4 data to the external hard drive and put it in the ps5. Long story short, I lost the game save data. It didn’t come up on my ps5 but the trophy progress was there. I don’t know if I didn’t something wrong or what not, but I went back to the PS4 and now that saved data can’t be read.. I was a little frustrated with that. Even my Call of duty campaign. Nothing transferred over 😔

plug the ps5 into the tv. when ready to transfer you turn the ps4 on, navigate on the ps5 to system and transfer, then itll give you instructions to hold your ps4 power button for 1 second after both consoles established a connection. you dont need to see the screen of your ps4 at any point. if you wanna watch the process on the ps4 for whatever reason you can plug the ps4 into a laptop and use screen play, or what i did is plug both into my tv and just switch between hdmi 1 and 2 every 30 seconds but quickly realized you dont need to do that, from start to finish the only time you interect with the ps4 is pressing the power to turn it on then again when your ps5 tells you to.

Did all the steps except connecting a lan cable between the ps4 and ps5. I didn’t transfer everything over because there was too much data. When I looked at my library, I only saw the game it asked me to download while transferring data. I have to re-download the games but I believe the saves transferred over. It took around 2.5 - 3 hours to download.

Whenever it's done you should be good to remove it. If anything does happen you can download your save files again from the cloud. Hope this helps!

I did this process without having to purchase a LAN Cable and only took about 5 mins for 6 games with data to transfer... unless you are VERY impatient just do what he says without the LAN.. ❤😮

As long as you do a factory reset, it automatically logs you out so it's essentially a blank slate. Then it is safe to give to someone else.

Each time you play same game on both consoles, it will suspend it on the other console. You will need to keep syncing your data.

When you transfer your data it makes a copy. All your games should still work.

I started setting up my data transfer and I saw it was going to take 99+hours because I don’t have a LAN cable at the moment. I did a custom set up to skip transferring the games I had installed, I just wanted to download my profile. Well I accidentally started the transfer that is 99+ hours long. I’ve been sitting here over an hour and it hasn’t even gone to 1% yet. What happens if it stops mid process? If I get a LAN cord like I plan on doing, can I plug it in mid transfer for it to go quicker or has that ship sailed? I’m not home a lot so I don’t want to leave these consoles on unattended and I also don’t want to leave both consoles on for days with no rest. Does anyone have any knowledge on the subject? I made a stupid mistake and now I can’t go back. Any information would be very much appreciated.

I got a PS5 yesterday but I know what you mean. Cancel the transferring, plug the lan cable in and it should go a lot faster.
