I love watching videos like this, I use to go camping and walking as a kid and more walking in the lake district as an adult. Just remember to leave a game plan with loved ones before each trip so people know to check on you if you're stuck up the creek without a paddle! Halloween is the day my Dad died (under care of Hospice, thankfully) of Prostate Cancer.. ..unfortunately the neighborhood (GlenAfton, Trenton, NJ a nice riverside community) was very cruel to us! Despite the 'Black Shawl' hanging on our door light.. It still bugs the hell out of me that people would 'Egg'/ litter, smash our pumpkin/ holiday decorations our home while we grieved inside... So sad!

That fairy ring was incredible. I think the mushrooms have some kind of symbiosis with the other plants, sharing nutrients etc. I've never seen a fairy ring that big before.

That looked like it was probably a ring of Trooping Funnel from what I could make out on the video. I saw lots of these last month in similar woodland here in the middle of the UK. Never saw such a large and complete ring though, lovely to see

Lovely video! Difficult to get the weight down with heavy tech, without spending out on an ultralight tent. In warmer weather you could use a tarp or bivy bag I guess.

That was so cool. I did my first solo wild camp on 30th Oct. Lots went wrong. Air bed went down zip broke on my sleeping bag...forgot my pillow and phone...druids banging drums and screaming like banshees . But when they had gone the moon..owls and solitude was great for my soul. Wasnt scared at all. Planning my next one but now theres another lockdown so maybe have to wait a bit. Hello WB, I hope all is well in your world. I just want to say - after 45+ years of backpacking, 99% in the UK, and much of it in the Scottish Highlands, but plenty in South and Mid-Wales, Lake District etc - that I have always wanted to cheer whenever I have seen women in the hills, but especially the soloists. Being in my 60s now, I have met a great many people out there in the wilder places. Solo women inspire me! Not just because they are women or solo, but because I know quite a bit about WHY some women might/would/do find it scary. Everything from former abusive relationships (that, clearly, can have huge trauma effects ongoing) to the boogie man/ghosts/things that go bump in the night etc. One friend said how she was spooked after visiting a village to re-supply before heading back out to the hills, and was concerned that some - wrong-in-the-head - man, who might have clocked her and worked out what she was doing, could follow her, and... Totally valid fear. So hats off to all soloists, or pairs/groups of women for defying stereotypes and overcoming their inner spooks. Best thing to remember? Same as for everyone - the kind of man who might want to be a complete bastard is unlikely ever to be someone who hits the hills or remoter places in order to commit nastinesses. If your thoughts are more 'Might my tent get blown down?' or 'What happens if I get lost/dehydrated/injured etc' or 'Yeah, what ABOUT the boogie man/other unknown?!'. Then there is only one answer - learn the skills necessary to eliminate such thoughts from your mind, and keep practicing. And remember - there are NO boogie men/women, ghosts or poltergeists etc! Certainly none that could ever cause you harm. Most of the unpleasant possibilities in people's heads is precisely there - inside. So that element is up to you to resolve, by whatever means. And watch this excellent woman's youtube vids! I am cheering you on, all of you, especially WildBeare (like the final e btw) for putting it out there. Cheers, Yogabob, Gairloch, Wester Ross.

Rather nice woodland camping spot for Halloween and all them golden brown colours. I know many good hill top camping spots in wooded areas some good ones. All best with your next one..

Love your channel. Regarding camping on a hill, if has trees then a Hennessy Hammock is great. It has a built in tarp and opens up a whole new world of camping. I’ve camped on the steep side of Box Hill in Surrey.
