Wilderness Battlefield and Minute Man National Historical Park once again have been listed among the nation’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places, a stark indication of the urgent and ongoing need to protect even our most hallowed grounds from the relentless forces of development and expansion.
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

I don’t make enough money to help very many causes, but this is bigger then most and I want to be apart of the team that’s helping. Iam donating $100 today. I know this doesn’t sound like much, but if everyone gave what they can, it would make a huge impact on saving this precious land, where brave young men laid down there lives, so America would be a better place for everyone! In all my civil wars travels I can say the Wilderness area is one of the most natural and pretty ones. It would be a shame to see it become what the Richnond area is.

My great great uncle was captured here. He was in the 76th New York and was right where this is to be built. He died 6 months later after Andersonville and Florence and was 17. Stop this destruction!

@@Historybluff1986I now live right by a creek where Lafayette camped. I can wade fish it surrounded by woods. Not all of Virginia is paved. And I’m from a VA Fall Line city. Have hope and fight the fight!

My family visited this battlefield, along with Manassas, Antietam, and Gettysburg back in the early 2000's. We all enjoyed the trip, and tried to walk some of the trails too. We were by the exact Wilderness lean-to that you show off the parking lot. Hoping to return and tour more battlefields too. What are they thinking to allow development ? How is it that approval was given to rezone the land ? I don't quite understand: will the battlefield be ruined - or are they building near by ? I thought the battlefields were permanently protected.

What a lack of respect for our history! Hopefully, the developers and politicians won't succeed. These areas where so many fought and died should be revered, always.

Aside from the massive negative impact to the battlefield and adjacent areas, there's also the negative environmental impact. We cannot let such a massive nature area be replaced by concrete and suburban sprawl. I suspect heavy payments are being made under the table to county office holders.
