Wilderness Survival Rain Poncho as a Shelter

Pretty good video, (especially for those new to outdoor lifestyle, survival, prepping, etc.) very to the point, no uneccesary jibber jabber or showing off. I LOVE the U.S. military (or style) poncho! I think every preparedness kit should have one! (OR MORE, depending on it's size. 2 can be snapped together to make a pup tent, and a third can be snapped in to make a floor for the tent) And i also see the value in those dollar store disposable ponchos (or trash bags). Being prepared isn't meant to be glamourous!

Went I went though recruit training we slept in panchos with the poncho liner attached like a sleeping bag. Also when I went though the jungle warfare course in NTA ,oki japan they taught us to make a raft outta 2 alice packs ( with waterproofed gear inside) and a poncho. They are also great for litters to carry wounded and to gather water. An all around good peice of gear.

Kevin in the Everglades there are no trees But have more then one cheap .89 cent and a US Miliary Poncho, I may have some old US Air Force gear...

You can also just carry a blue tarp. And it has grommets in the corners.

@Bassaholics123 I think the idea was just to show how to rig a poncho shelter... If I've got one or two miles to go, I'll probably put the thing on and hike out. But folks often forget that ponchos are more than just a rain getup.

so that is why my pancho has the holes like in a tarp, I was wondering, I think I got mine from a military surplus and it is just a plain olive drab, you know the clasic military collor that isnt cammo.

Just carry a small tent or hang out at the mall instead
