Bushcraft Rain Shelter Building - After more than two weeks of rain and gloomy weather, I took advantage of a sunny day and went for a trip to the woods. Because the weather was still unpredictable, and there was lots of mud in the forest, I decided to build a rain shelter, that could keep me and my gear dry and off the ground. And it did help as there were some light rain and thick mist on the second day of my trip and it also rained during the night. The new ax I used on this trip helped a lot with building my shelter. The ax was recommended to me by Ben Brucker from Brucker Crafts. It was made by him and 2 other Romanian craftsmen. I thank him for his help and kindness. He is a wonderful person and a very talented artist. I'll add links for the ones that are interested in further exploring at the end of the description. No talking, only peaceful nature sounds.
You can admire Ben's leatherwork and the axes if you access this page:
/ brucker-crafts-7477398...
Facebook pages of the other 2 craftsmen that made the ax:

Happy exploring!

Whoever seeks peace finds it, since it is at the bottom of us even at all times, it is enough to compose it with the elements of the space which surrounds us and which is none other than peace. This is our world, that of the wise, of course. Thank you for your efforts to transmit to us these moments of peace and serene solitude. Saâd from Morocco.

Good Evening Johanna .. So nice to see you again 😊 .. and yes, the weather is not our servant 🙄😏. Thanks for the written preamble to your videos .. they give one a deeper understanding of the content and are a joy to read. To comment further on John Muir's Quote .. 'To sit in solitude and be alone in solitude with only one's thoughts to keep one company, notwithstanding the forest chorus, is not as silent and lonely as one would imagine ..' Plastic .. no need for guilt or explanation (as if there should be any 😏). Our forefathers used the technology they had at their disposal to best advantage. Within reason, and utilized responsibly, our technology has it's place and uses. Twisters' 👍 .. yummy. One of my camp fire favourites. In South Africa we call it 'stok brood' (stick bread). Yes, we appear to be living in a world that is losing it's mind .. of great concern .. And .. thank You for sharing 🌹. Until next time Johanna, please take care out there .. stay alert and be safe .. Tommy

Tommy, so glad to read one of your comments again 🙂! Thank you for writing such a heartwarming comment! Thank you for mentioning how you called that bread and its meaning/translation. That's very interesting! I saw it prepared by other bushcrafters and wanted to give it a try. It was easy to make and delicious. Thank you for your kind thoughts and care! Wish you and your loved ones all the best!

I become so relaxed and peaceful. I know the videos take so much time and that's why I want you to know how amazing it is for you to take time you don't have to do them. Setting up the camera, etc. takes time away from your journey so I want to sincerely thank you a million times. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

The inscription says 6 months ago . I didn't know anything about a Bushcraft channel on KZbin. Although I am ex military and Department of Corrections , a survival prepper of 20 years , proficient in firearms and outdoor sporting and even long fire making, doing these things alone had not been a focus . Raised on the rivers fishing and hunting with my Dad was the norm. So Hanna , these videos have been welcomed and enjoyed! It matters not that my other 3 siblings are just the opposite of who I am . At last through this channel I believe there is a place for me to come home and belong . Thank you so much for being such a great example of skill and grace . You have proven that a woman need not lose her identity doing things of good report in and through nature outdoors. If anything at all, it will be twerked with femininity. ! So Hanna Go ! Build. Create. Explore! You are blessed for the undertaking. But the journey will be long and arduous ! Prepare for That Day.... It is very near. Good Evening to YOU. Sherry. Montez

Very nice video. You learn, and implement what you learn pretty well. One thing I'd suggest you work on is learning to use parts of your body more to your advantage when working with tools and moving timbers and other things around - apply the setup you configured for sawing the timbers in other ways. In the possibly "reinterpretted" words of Archimedes, "give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world." Those same principles can be applied at a micro level when leveraging the body when doing certain tasks.

I love what you've done with the playground :) Gets along great with nature. Has an eye for unique designs, and protective shelter hideouts. A flair for fire inspired feasts. Illumination to reflect the soul and dispel the shadows.Doubts dissapear. Rhythm of running waters carry the concerns to babbling creek bank, and alone with nature, the voices of the Saints speak of age old truths found in every heart that seeks peace and love. Happy is the woman that heard the call and went. 💚

You are a beautiful lady and you let that show too. ☺ I was pleased when you built not just one camp but two, hard work never hurt anyone, especially when you can sit and watch. I think most will miss the real star, your backpack up the tree..! He went from goblin to ghoul, from Yoda to a boar, definitely a frog at one point..! 😆 Again, excellently executed and the production was spot on. I really enjoy your productions Johanna. Well done. Would it be ok with you if I put a link to your KZbin on all the UK Womens Bushcraft groups I'm on on Facebook? I just think it's so empowering and more women need to see what you do!! yum, that brings back memories! when I was still with my scouts troupe we would make campfire bread all the time, only we'd put them around the tip of the stick so that one end of the bread was closed aswell, and once they'd finish baking just squeeze a bit of ketchup and mustard in them followed by a hotdog (or vegetarian or vegan version of a hotdog if that's the way you roll) and you have yourself the perfect campfire snack with just the right ratio of bread to dog!

You made good use of that curved tree trunk! The shelter was atmospheric, sturdy, well-insulated, and rainproof. You demonstrate the use of a grid over the tarp to hold in the insulating leaves! I have wondered why more bush crafters have not done that when building similar shelters.

I assume you don't intend this shelter to last very long. In the video you can plainly see the previous year's high-water marks and your shelter is built exactly in that flood path. When the spring melt-off occurs the stream is going to rise dramatically and wash your shelter away. You put a lot of effort into making that shelter. It's unfortunate it's going to be washed away in a couple months. There's also a personal safety aspect to this... if a severe rain storm occurs while you're camping there you could suddenly find yourself in the middle of a dangerous flood.

Great video. I really like the quotes you add. I'm from California, so all the John Muir quotes are my favorite. What he wrote about, I get to see regularly. A quick audio editing tip: If you trim the audio waveform when it's at zero, you won't get the "clicks" between each shot.

Things went wrong and they are still not coming back on track in many places in the world. I can only hope we can still continue to go on in alignment with what we believe in. At least I could see your smile at the end of the video and that means something for sure to me, and to all the audience in this channel. Stay warm and safe, friend! With my hats off to your great shelter. 😁👍

The purpose of a wilderness journey is not to get from one end of the trail to the other, but to enjoy the landscape, and adapt to it's ever changing moods. - Bill Mason. You certainly have the creative mind and ability to adapt to it's ever changing moods, to find the best areas to bring out the skill of your camera work. It's high time you entered some of your films into competitions. Congrats on 10K subs, many more to come soon.
