I'm not familiar with that specific trap, though I've used several muticatch traps on homes. Especially flying squirrels and gray squirrels. If you have a link to the trap your talking about I can check it out.

@puffingtonsmythe8690 What about misfires and sprung traps? You never set off a trap while nightlatching it? Or making adjustments to the pan and dog? I don't think you know what you're talking about. If dry firing a trap damaged it like you suggest then trap manufacturers wouldn't be in business very long. It's such a non-issue that trap makers dont even bother to mention it.

@@SouderStationFarm Actually, they do. WCS in the product use instructions on their web site says, "DO NOT dry fire trap as this may cause damage to the strike bar and tube." They might not have said anything 10 years ago, but with current widespread availability on Amazon and eBay, they probably have a lot more returns and other issues associated with inexpert users than they used to. Another squirrel trap maker says if you want to test fire theirs, use a rolled up newspaper or something soft rather than a stick or something hard, to prevent damage to the trap.
