Photographing wild Mustangs (Wild Horses) is a great way to practice action photography. These Horses are so active and there are so many opportunities to see them chasing each other, biting, fighting, kicking, etc. This trip I spent some time getting more video footage rather than photos, and I had such a great time.
These Mustangs, as well as so many other desert animals, are true specialists of this arid environment. It's been a few years since I've come out to photograph them and it was so great to see them again.
When going out to photograph or observe animals, or if you're just getting out into nature, please remember to stick to designated roads when driving. Many of these landscapes are so fragile and need our help protecting them. As always, thanks for the support and have a great week!

Loved watching the little foal, it must have been a very young one to be so unsteady. Also it was cool to watch some of the horses running and their heads didn't look like horses when they were running into the wind? Thanks very informative as always.

I loved the video, it made me a bit emotional, probably because I am going to see the wild mustangs in Wyoming in a few weeks time. I am so looking forward to it and taking lots of photos and videos. Your video just made me an extra excursion to see them. Can’t wait. Thank you Jimmy.

Great capture, Young James...........both in video and stills. Are these the herds located in the areas around Cody, Wyoming (it's OK if you'd rather not say). Thanks for you continued emphasis on Conservation.

My guess is Western Utah but 🤷‍♂️. I didn’t know the Cody area had some, I’ll have to take a look the next time I am around there

Thanks for looking! I know right!? Some of those males had some crazy cuts and wounds. I didn't include one of them in the video because it was so bad, I don't know how he was still walking around honestly.
@brandt_bennett

@@JimmyBreitenstein I believe it! One episode of the Wild and Exposed Podcast talks about photographing some of these same herds, the host that was doing the photography said that the males battle it out for pecking order , for them and their herd. I imagine the battles can be pretty intense and result in some ugly wounds

Horses can be very destructive to habitat. They will eat the bark of trees. I bet the pressure of the horses on the land is a result of what you’re seeing also. They will overgraze. Horses must be managed but they are enjoyable to watch.
@JimmyBreitenstein
@JimmyBreitenstein 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think there are a lot of factors that contribute to the land degrading out there. There's a lot of sheep and cows that graze the land, not to mention the horses like you said. I think that all contributes to the reduction of vegetation and increase in erosion. It surely doesn't help that people are driving all over the place on the remaining plants.
@Falkenroth1
@Falkenroth1 3 жыл бұрын
@@JimmyBreitenstein Agree, sheep will also overgraze. Like horses they can eat the plant to the ground. Cattle leave 4 inches of vegetation because of the way they use their tongue to grasp foliage. Turf wars (Sheep Wars) were fought here in Arizona over sheep herders and cattle ranchers not coming to terms on sheep overgrazing. Kept us from getting statehood and rivaled any Hollywood western movie you’ve ever seen.
