I am from Berlin and always watched you and your touching rescues from here in Germany!! You uplifted my spirits in very gloomy and depressed and dark times in my life. I can not tell you HOW shocked I was yesterday when i read that you are so ill. I am so, so, so sorry and so sad. Yesterday a friend found two very sick, young magpies with cramps but she doesnt have a car. I didnt feel well yesterday but i thought "I have a car and now have to keep Simons legacy and spirit up!" So I drove to my friends place, picked up the poor birds and drove them to a very good 24 hours wildlife-hospital. I am sending all my hope and my best wishes for peaceful times to you with all my heart, dear Mr. Simon

Hi guys, as always thank you so much for your kind support and comments! There are a few questions on this one, so here are some answers in case you were wondering: - This was the most recent rescue that Simon and I did together before the recent news and was filmed at the end of May. - The cubs were separated as the best thing to raise a young fox is, and will always be, an adult fox. Keeping a wild animal as wild as we possibly can is always our ultimate goal, and this gave the first cub the best chance at being the 'best' fox possible. - The second cub wasn't left alone, she was moved in with some of our other young cubs and was eventually was split into one of our release groups (typically about 6-7 foxes). She actually went for release earlier this week (end of July), and we have a video of that release coming at some point. And, on a personal level, can I just thank you all for the outpouring of support for Simon since the news was announced. He will never admit it, but he (and we) deeply appreciate your support. - Lawrie

Hi Lawrie, thanks for all the info! It saddens me that Simon, your friend, mentor and colleague, has been diagnosed with this horrible disease. I'm sure all watchers of Wildlife Aid are hoping you guys manage to get enough money donated to build out Simon's (and all of Wildlife Aid's) dream hospital. Hopefully some big dogs will step up and donate to help make it a reality, perhaps through some help from the BBC (saw that Instagram post about an interview with BBC) or through your contacts with Animal Planet. Once this news hits the telly I can imagine the outreach it will have to so many fans of the Wildlife SOS TV show. I just wish Simon could be there to see his legacy continued once the new hospital is built.

It's interesting to see how different it is working with wild animals you want to keep wild vs, in my case, working with feral kittens we are trying to turn into future house cats. But it also makes complete sense what you guys are doing. With kittens if we can keep the mom, even if she's feral, the mom is still the best for raising the kittens. They will learn from her important lessons such as how to clean themselves and your fox cubs need the same lessons such as hunting if they are to survive. Sad that the second one had to stay but letting the first one who is alright back into the wild helps you rescue more. You only have so many resources and I hope people can understand that. Thank you Lawrie for what you do. Simon and you inspired me to do what I could to help the wild, but instead of wild animals I help cats and cutting down on feral cats helps wild animals in the long run.

Thank you for the update Lawrie. Glad that they both got back out to the wild, and survived this terrible netting tangle. Glad to hear of the live video next week. I hope that Simon's treatment is going well. Also I received your photography book, I really like it. I especially like the photographs of the foxes faces, showing how different they all are. Best wishes.

Absolutely astonishing how a man facing his own death is more concerned for the safety and well being of animals. I do believe that the traditional definition of a hero involves something along the lines of: putting the greater good of others before themselves. So! Simon = Hero!

First of all being in California, I want to say I love and miss the sound of the rain very much! You are truly one of my favorite rescue organizations I LOVE watching (I follow many!). Between your gorgeous countryside and the care everyone takes from the first to the last moment is so genuine and heartfelt. I was taken aback from your current situation and will be sending my support. Your videos have been moments of pure joy for me as I I know for many. I recently adopted a kitten with some health issues but he’s slowly on the mend. He is stunning boy with light blue green eyes. I’m going to name him Simon. You have touched so many lives, 2 and 4 legged, that will have forever lasting effects. To everyone at Wildlife Aid, thank you !

Two more foxes that can now proceed to live happy lives. If you would count the number of foxes you saved and the number of baby foxes they then were able to make, then you truly know the impact WAF has made in the fox community in the area - a huge one. That's why you guys are so admirable.
@AlexIsModded2 жыл бұрын
You can tell Simon is angry and he's being professional and containing his anger. After seeing people so carelessly leave out this netting for as long as he's been with Wildlife Aid, I think he's had enough. Just seeing it through the videos and I'm appalled at people not putting things away. As a kid I always learned from my parents to put away your yard equipment of any kind, be it toys, grills, buckets, whatever it may be, so animals don't get into it. When I was little, my dad accidentally left a big bucket of water on the deck and forgot it overnight. My mom goes outside and the morning and starts shrieking and crying because this poor squirrel had gotten into the bucket, couldn't get out and drowned. There's nothing more horrifying than finding a dead squirrel floating around in a bucket of water. I will never forget that.
@GrumpyWolfTech2 жыл бұрын
There was a point when walking up the stairs he says "I don't care" when the lady is trying to explain things. I understand his frustration but I thought he was being unprofessional, most people don't understand that you can't leave stuff out in your own yard.
@anniemac30752 жыл бұрын
We've had a couple of disasters over the years, Mum left a watering can upright with some water in & found a frog had drowned in it, no way out once it got in. I found a dead frog in a large empty flower pot, same again, no way out once it fell in. Never leave anything out creatures can become trapped in inadvertently.

There is only a limited amount of time where cubs can be returned to their parents and, whilst one was able to, the other needed treatment and passed that window. The best thing to raise a young fox is, and always will be, a fox, so we needed to maximise the chances that both would be ok. The second cub was soon moved in with another of our fox cub groups and released as that group later in the year.
