Crows don't bite; they nip. I once had one hold my left index finger in its mouth while I removed the left over plastic lunch bag from its wings. They are the finest of birds.

Crows are intelligent. They'll remember the people who saved them and bring them back gifts, but they'll also remember people who hurt/killed one of their own and teach their young and each other on who to avoid. They are so amazing! That crow will definitely bring something back to the folks that saved it as a "thank you"

Like the various flying fox channels say, any netting you can poke a finger through is a hazard to wildlife.

I used that to cover my shrubs in the winter to prevent deer browsing on them, but after finding several birds dead because they got tangled in it , I quit using it. I never used it again.

Great job guys. Im so pleased he wasn't damaged too badly. I follow flying fox channels that deal with a lot of entanglements in netting. They recommend netting with a small apperture, if you can put your finger through it's a danger to wildlife. So that allotment netting looks awful. Hopefully your the allotment folk will change that awful netting.

We need to live in harmony with wildlife, that allotment looks like a deathtrap for them, that netting is horrible! Foxes & hedgehogs will get caught in that as well as birds :(

while there are certainly better materials to keep the critters out, those are also like, 3-5 times the cost of the cheap netting for a lot less yardage quick check few times daily is generally enough to keep anything from getting more then minor injuries from entanglement

I have read the crows are very intelligent and they have a long memory for those who are helpful to them, and they communicate it to their murder (yes, it is a murder of crows!), so the persons who helped may be getting some kind greetings in future. I love this stuff.

There's one thing I'd like to see regulalrly in WA videos, it's the feeding of the rescued animals while they're at the vet's. It's a frustration every time to miss it, questioning myself, "did they feed him ?". I always leave the video with this anxious feeling of unsatisfaction about it. I thumb it up, though, most often, but still, in such cases, I'm more angry than heart melted.

Its important to check underneath the feathers for remaining net loops, as they could potentially cripple or even strangle the bird after cutting it from the main net. I'm very sure you did a thorough examination of that as with all animals caught in nettings. 👍

We did indeed, Lawrie had a good check of the bird on scene and Rita, one of our vets had another look once back at the centre. You are right, netting can get everywhere

Crows manage quite well with damaged feathers. I had a semi-tame crow that would visit me. He had the primary feathers of one wing permanently bent out. Made him easy to identify. He raise several families in my yard before disappearing ( suspect a fight with a hawk)

Great job! I'm glad he wasn't seriously injured but I bet those steamings were time-consuming. He was so funny comfortably sitting in the carrier like it was a bed lol. Saving wildlife for as long as you are physically capable......what is there to 'retire' from? It is a far cry from the rat race commute into the city. Personally, I'd continue until my legs dropped off. With more tricky rescues involving gymnastic moves over iron railings and restraining feisty and powerful deer he might need a helping hand, though.
