I am honestly genuinely impressed with this from what you've shown! The darkening is only slight and as you have shown you can go straight back in over the top if you need to brighten up the highlights again. Honestly something like this would give me piece of mind when sending my artwork to buyers so they don't accidently smudge areas when unpacking their artwork. I think I'm definitely going to give it a go!

I took a picture with my iPhone and compared the look to the sprayed dried picture and the only difference I could really see is the darkening of the gray. It virtually is the same color everywhere else. This product sounds great and can’t wait to see the video the company put out. I can see this being a BIG game changer for pastel painters. Thank you for what you do Jason, you are always working tirelessly to give so much of yourself to others.

Thanks! I’m beginning to really get into pastel painting. I certainly need to work on my artistic & drawing skills continually, (no matter what media I’m using) but I also need to learn the more “mechanical” or technical aspects of working in pastels. With pastels, the technical methods that are helpful are not necessarily intuitive and so we have to experiment ourselves or tap into other more experienced pastel artists’ knowledge base. I’ve been using Dick Blick general purpose fixative for pastels and other dry media. It works very well. I’m learning to fix each layer I’m satisfied with so I can work on top as I need. This works ok for now. I’m sure I’ll learn some other tips and fixative products that may work better, here & there. Blick’s fixative spray works well and there’s virtually no smudging with 2 layers of spray applied. The down side are the fumes and I have to take my art outside to safely spray. I want to try the safer Spectrum and maybe the Revolution spray you’re showing here if it’s available in the US. I haven’t seen it advertised here. I’ll take a look. Thanks!

In my case I use fixative a lot, that piece that spray on the top of sprayer sometimes as malfunction, don`t spray very well. I buy a bocal spray and noted that works a little better, spread the fixative in the direction of the work, better results. We must be very careful when we used that Bocal Spray, when we blow have attention when we do that, maybe can helps .

The color change to the underpainting seems major and seems to make black. Yes, using alcohol (very good 90%, though hard to get today), turpentine ( not so great changes the nature of pastel, but does work), water or just spray the back of the substrate. This new REVOLUTION product reminds one of Blue Label Fixtiv by Weber which was a great (fluid fix) but unfortunately now out of business. It was a product so great to use for underpainting and for using many layers. Happy to know that there is something has taken that place other than Spectra fix. Pastel-mat seems to work well. Thank you!

From what I can see it tends to alter the colors somewhat. On the downside you might lose the exact color you struggled to achieve but the positive is that there is more contrast with the richer tones.

I am not a working professional artist, I dabble in all kinds of mediums, When I was younger I use to use aerosol hair spray such as White Rain dry hairspray as a fixative for pastel chalk drawings and believe it or not it held up all these years. (20+) Yes it will smudge if you rub it but not if it is just lightly touched. It also has not yellowed or faded. I think a Dry fixative is the answer for pastel's and there is nothing really going to stop it from transfer short of a harsh coating of something.

Pastelcard is not compatible with any type of liquid so it won’t work with this either. You can test it out but it will still cause the vegetable flakes to flake off the base as it will react the same with every other liquid it comes in contact with.

Anyone have an idea when this will be available in the United States? I tried ordering from Jackson's and the order was denied . It said: "Your order contains restricted items that we are unable to ship to your destination. Please try removing hazardous or oversized items from your basket." I just tried ordering the smallest container, so it must be an ingredient that is holding it up. Closest I could find that would ship is Canada, but they wanted more to ship it than the product costs. Would like to try, but not at any cost.

Personally, when I make pastel, I use and do not use a fixative. I've tried countless fixatives, and they all change the color tone to some extent or even totally eat some of the shadows. I use the fixative if I work with extremely dark pastel colors, or sometimes when I work with charcoal or graphite. Pastel drawing picture, I mostly work on cotton pastel papers, I prefer a coarser texture, I also use sanded pastel paper, but to a lesser extent. The only successful way for me is to fix the soft pastel pigment as much as possible, on cotton paper, without the use of fixatives. Is to push the pigment under pressure into the paper and immediately frame it behind the glass, not to use Plexiglas and other plastic materials by any chance. I do this I put a piece of vinyl on a flat concrete base, I put over hardboard, I put over puck paper. Then I put a pastel drawing picture over the puck paper greasy smooth side of the picture with duct tape so it doesn't move. I put a rubber mat over it, and at the end I use medium-thick telephone directories framed by a frame so that they don't move. And I take a heavy hammer and hit it moderately hard piece by piece. And the result is good for me, just take a picture of the frame behind the glass and use a thicker parspata and that's it. The fixative is a great thing, it provides the color layer with additional UVA and protection from dust and dirt particles, it fixes the color layer so that it is less susceptible to physical stress ..... Only if it would not affect the appearance of the whole or parts of the image.
