Lions attack and kill zebra SPECTACULAR KILL

It was on a holiday in South Luangwa National Park Zambia, september 2017. During our morning game drive we saw a group of lions were attacking zebras in daylight. After the lions caught the zebra they started eating while unfortunately the zebra was still alive....

Their roll in the circle of life may not be a pretty one, but it is necessary for all of life to thrive. This zebra ran it’s last day in this life, and instead the lions will use only it’s body to continue their journeys until the day they too die. That’s how it goes for everything. That's usually what happens, but not the rule, eating the prey alive is much less frequent, but it still occurs. It can happen when the lions are too hungry or when the prey does not show resistance. You see, when the zebra attacks it triggers the predator instinct, only then the lionesses goes to the throat to finish the job.

Yeah, unless they can time a blindly thrown kick correctly, they're helpless. I've noticed they also manage to get themselves eaten alive by lions more often than other animals. Probably because they're just large enough for a pride to gather around and eat but weak enough that they don't need to be subdued first. There are a few other such videos on YT.

Yes, this is painful to watch. Of course, I sympathize with the zebra, but I also feel sorry for the lions. Keep in mind that zebras are far from easy prey. I think that lions eat prey alive when they're desperate to eat it instead of waiting for it to die. Their kicks can easily kill or severely injure lions if struck in the head, neck, or chest, and their bites don't exactly tickle them. Lions have a success rate of only 30% in hunting, and that's for multiple lions working together, so they often have to go without food for days. When hunting zebras, a fair amount of the hunts are unsuccessful since the zebra either fights back aggressively or the lion mistakenly loses its grip on it. There are many instances of zebras killing or injuring large male lions. In fact, lions that have their jaws broken by a zebra kick are likely to die because it's very hard for them to hunt and eat. So, you don't have to feel too sorry for zebras. Both sides have their fair share.

I'm just sorry for the wild animals. I get frustrated when kids at school keep saying "Animals have such easy life, no school, no homework, no exams." Like do they even know that living as a wild animal is 1000 times more stressful than living as a human? These animals are worried about getting killed by predators or diseases or not finding food, while we are worried about our school grades. Those two aren't even comparable.

That poor last minute zebra bite was bit too late they were already feasting on, Can't believe they cleaned it all in under 8min! And the lioness arguing with lion was bit funny, was as if she was trying to tell leave some good stuff for us as well not just stomach and intestines.. Great video capture on hunting 👌

There is clear share of tasks among male and female lions within a pride. Female lion are better hunters because they are more agile. Because of their strength, male lions job is to protect the pride's territory, females and cubs from other predators and intruders. They sometimes buy that with their life. It's a hard job and the pride needs strong male lions to protect them, so the price is that they get to eat first. This social order works pretty well

@@fatrat6988 I dunno, there’s a video of a warthog (I think) behind a fence getting harassed by hyenas. The warthog actually tries to get through a hole in the fence to the other side, succeeds, and gets eaten by the hyenas. I swear, it’s like the warthog WANTED to get eaten!
