I read today that Suzy passed away on the 29th. I am sorry for your loss. My heart especially goes out to her caregiver Baburam. I can't imagine the feeling of Suzy not being there for/with him. I'm sure Suzy is with Asha now & all of the other elephants that are no longer with us here on earth. I hope Suzy, Asha & the others are living in peace & happiness. God bless you at the WSOS.

I loved my time volunteering at Wildlife SOS in 2018. Such a privilege! Hands down one of the highlights of my life. I long to return. I remember every morning cutting up so many watermelons for sweet Suzie in tiny pieces. This is the thing. We need to stop the incarceration of elephants in zoos, circuses and such places. Using elephants for entertainment in festivals and as tourist draws (riding the elephants, e.g.) must be stopped. Using the elephants as workhorses should be banned. Poor animals. They are at our mercy always.

I couldn’t agree with you more but until selfish human beings stop abusing and imprisoning these magnificent creatures we need to continue to fight for and improve the lives of the abused, captive elephants like Suzy. They may never be able to live as a free individual but they deserve to be treated with respect and kindness by those willing and able to do so.
