Fantastic! ignore the naysayers.. You guys are doing an awesome job with a very difficult project and little help. My wife and I enjoy your show every week, and we can't wait to see what challenge you tackle in each episode. I am especially proud of you for tackling the huge undertaking of fixing your engine and lapping the valves, and all that goes along with such a daunting undertaking. You have a come a long way and you both have such a great attitudes! Just be careful and take your time. Well Done! (and to think a year or two ago your biggest problem was perpetual weeds while going through the locks haha. We can't wait to see you get the cat in the water)

Despite what some people might think, I believe the two of you are doing an outstanding job of refitting this old catamaran. Your determination and willingness to learn as you go is truly inspirational. At the rate you're going, the biggest danger I see is that you just might end up owning the boatyard due to the experience you're gaining along the way. 😉

Never cut a fuel tank with anything making sparks , if you ignite the fuel air mixture in the tank it will explode . If you must cut it , fill it with an inert gas or water before you start . Diesel is safer than petrol, had that been a petrol tank you would be dead or maimed . Safer to cut boat out of the way than tank
@jakejaekels7991
@jakejaekels7991 3 жыл бұрын
Putting water in the tank would stop any spark issue. Already cut a little and you are still alive so fumes, heat don’t seem to be an issue.

@@benniethejew Yep - it does . the hardest part is knowing that the tank is 100% filled . The tank is mild steel and a Sawzall with a few good blades would work . Me I would take it out whole , if good service and maybe line with something and reinstall .

I will be interested to see how they fair when they are encased in fibreglass. Personally I would be inclined to let them breathe and be able to monitor their condition. They will be difficult to seal at the top and I don’t like water logged wood behind composites.

If you find old, stale running lines otherwise in Ok shape, you might try soaking those in a bucket with light soapy water & fabric softener added to the mix. Jostle that bucket occasionally, since your boat is currently land-locked and won't offer any natural agitation.

All sailing channels are about the same things, but not all channels are the same. Sometimes I just like the host of the channels better, As in this channels case. Some think every boring section needs to be filled with music, I just hit fast forward as the remote is in my hand. I am to old to take on a refit so watching every little thing on others teaches me what to look for and avoid. So let viewer decide what is or is not boring just hit record on your camera. Every viewer is watching for a different reason be it learn or entertainment. I enjoy this more than say la vagabond. You deserve much more views.

Here's a tip for you bud. When you finish painting anything its always good to remove the tape immediately before it cures. Also choke up on the hammer when using it, its not good on your joints to use it that way. If it do that for years to come your joints will suffer tremendously for it. Plus when you choke up on the handle and use the hammer correctly it will get much better results. That's great Victor has come alongside to help you's out. Well done with the windows. Project manager Nadiyana. A big step forward. Keep your head up Mark, you seem a little down. It often feels like your getting nowhere fast, in real time, but have a look at the last few videos and you can see you are moving in the right direction. A good list that you can tick off helps with the feeling of progress in real time. I think your being very hard on yourself. Just think, half the people you went to school with are sat at home watching tv while you are out there living and building a boat and a channel. Your doing alright. Like I said, keep your head up Mark and soon you’ll be looking back at the boatyard and looking forward to the ocean and your next adventure. So glad you took this on, great old lady & will be an awesome home. She is teaching you many lessons - knowledge is power. Nadianna - your window work is awesome ! That stainless kedge is a good kedge / lunch hook. Once you have taken that diesel tank out, you won't need to worry about bow weight, so hang on to the chain in your bow lockers. Boats actually anchor to their chain dragging along the bottom, the hook at the end keeps it all in line, chain doesn't fray on rock either, you need a shorter scope with chain - handy in a tight spot. Need I go on? If you are still worried about bow weight, maybe build a chain locker where the diesel tank is & mount a windlass above that ?

You guys have it, your going to know every inch of the boat. Another year and it will be like new. Don't get frustrated you have a cool boat that's paid for. Your just getting her ready to make a crossing. You'll be on the water soon. Best of luck Sid

Not sure if you realize, just a reminder if you didn’t think of it, Bilge thru hull’s out the side of hull, must have check valves. When healing water can come into hull filling bilge with sea water.boats have come close to sinking because of no check valves. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

Check valves also restrict flow from the bilge pumps, best option is to have a vented loop in the hose above the water line so it can't back-siphon. Unless there's no room to make a vented loop, in that case yes, check valve :D

@@gfimadcat agrees, loop is far preferable, , best practice, and check valve is a potential liability, if it gets stuck too. Anyway ... it's a cat ... so, doesn't roll significantly, and, through-hull on inboard hull side mitigates the risk, towards centre line, sees little added immersion
