@@flawless_Cowboy Well, we sorta know there aren’t advanced civilizations anywhere near us. In Star Wars, a lot of planets are habitable and farmable and all that. Realistically, you’ll struggle to find them and reach them. This means that, even with hyperspace lanes, you really want to produce space habitats (effectively, a scaled up ISS which utilizes spin to create “gravity”). This goes to a point where the entire star is englobed in a swarm of habitats called a Dyson Swarm definitely within 10,000 years, potentially as few as 50 years depending on resources, automation, technologies, artificial materials, energy, and so on. At this point, you can still see the star, but it will be far dimmer than it should be, and upon closer observation, you will certainly see the swarm. This is called the Fermi Paradox, which is an apparent paradox between the vast size and age of the universe and the lack of intelligent life. I… May like sci-fi too much. Sorry

So the galaxy and the wider universe could be even bigger than we can even see due to these "invisible" obstructions and altered pockets of space-time. That game & the material within it served as the seed for the lion’s share of the EU.
@cheeseyoger2 жыл бұрын
And even within the EU, the lore isn't always consistent. While there's certainly a spirit of consistency a lot of writers shared--when you find cool stuff, you often want your stuff to happen in the same universe--it's not like it was all one google doc that they worked on together. There's not just one "Star Wars Galaxy" out there, some parts of lore will always be conflicting, "canon" depends a lot on which parts you like to combine the most

Except they did, at least once Lol There's a comic where Han and Chewie crash land The Falcon on an uncharted grassy/ocean planet and Han is mortally injured by the natives and dies, leaving Chewie stranded and alone on the planet. Hundreds of years go by and a humanoid explorer comes across The Falcons crash site and discovers Hans remains sitting in the cockpit of The Falcon. The explorer was in the area investigating sightings of a giant man-ape. The planet is Earth, and the explorer is Indiana Jones. He accidentally unearthed The Falcon while he was investigating sightings of Chewie in the area. Locals mistook Chewie for a Bigfoot/Sasquatch. But nope, it's just Chewie. He's still alive, still stranded, surviving alone in the wild... As centuries passed, his loyalty to Han was still strong, as he kept close to his friends final resting place and the closest thing to home, The Millennium Falcon. *sadface emoji*

na, "In a Galaxy Far Far Away..." Earth does exist in SW, but its not in the main star wars galaxy. It has made some appearances in SW, both canon and legends.. but never In the main universe. Who knows what lurks in the dark spaces beyond the frontiers of galactic civilization?" - The Official Galaxy Map QUOTE: "If an item does not appear in our records, it does not exist." ―Jocasta Nu to Obi-Wan Kenobi, responding to the notion that an unknown planet could exist somewhere in the galaxy (Ep2 AotC). So an "UNKNOWN" planet in Star Wars means nobody has visited and studied that planet and recorded it in any kind of detail, however, every star system in the whole galaxy is known of in the sense that is recorded in master maps and the Jedi archives, even those in the "unknown regions" & satellite galaxies. This is similar to remote forests and islands on Earth; we can see them all with satellites and can map out the whole world, but not every remote island or forest has been visited and studied, and some places are harder to get to. I think what I find so interesting about the history of exploration and travel in the Star Wars universe is that it could mirror or parallel our own future. Being that our galaxy is just so massive, I can totally see future human space exploration favor a certain sector of the galaxy, do to an abundance of resources or something like that, and leave out the another side by accident. Then, after that one well explored sector has been well colonized and explored, we look to the other side and wonder "what's over there? why haven't we explored there before?", thus creating our own "unknown region" of the galaxy. Awesome vid, Eck, keep up the great work!

@mrvwbug44234 жыл бұрын
There were a few factors for sure. One, Kenobi could probably mind trick most people he came across into thinking he was just some harmless hermit. Tatooine as was mentioned was under Hutt control and many of the people there were the type that didn't want to be found. Bounty Hunters would probably mostly take easier bounties when they could, catch some low hanging fruit like spacers that owe money to the Hutts, etc. Most bounty hunters were probably not good enough to take down a Jedi and you can't claim a reward if you're dead. And lastly, Kenobi probably spent a lot of time trying to mask his presence in the force so that Palpatine, Vader and the inquisitors would be less likely to sense his presence unless they were very close to him.

And the Rakata most definately know what is there and where everything is since they ruled the entire area as well as everywhere else. I suppose if they wanted to get technical, they could say somewhere in that area is our Earth. The reason why we dont see much alien traffic is for that reason, no one really knows we are here. Remember E.T.'s race is now canon for starwars, we got to see his race in a senate scene, and they visited earth.

@@musclegeek1991when they say far far away, even if Earth is right out on the outter rim of the unknown regions, it is still far far away. However I think you are right and we are not part of that one but are perhaps in a direct neighbouring galaxy. Since we know there are other races in the Starwars mythos that came from other neighbouring galaxies. And the E.T. race is fully capable of traveling to other galaxies to explore.

What irritates me is that there was so much untapped potential with the sequels. I think somewhere in the movies, Snoke was said to have been from the unknown regions. Maybe they could have visited these regions, and more worldbuilding could have been done, looking at more interesting worlds and all

A few things that you didn’t mention are that species in the Unknown Regions did explore near their homeworlds, just not far enough to make contact with the Republic/Empire/New Republic. These include Chiss, Killiks, Ssi-Ruuvk, etc. Some species such as the Chiss and Nuso Esva’s species had very large territories there. Then the Empire of the Hand came around. They explored 250 sectors worth of the Unknown Regions and Wild Space. That is the vast majority of the Unknown Regions.

One thing. Yuzhang Vong came to the galaxy from outside of it. Plus we know about other visitors from near by galaxies. So intergalactic travel is not only posible but in used in practice. So, couldn't they just get to galaxy's edge, circulate galaxy and then just get into Unknown regions from the other side?
@Raptor48844 жыл бұрын
The Yuzhann Vong had to enter it the slow way. As in without using their FTLs to cross into the Galactic rim. Think of it as driving through a construction zone where the Speed limit drops from 70mph to 25mph. But once your past it you can speed up.

Great video, new subscriber on both channels, really liking your content and presentation. One major correction: Hyperspace lanes are NOT naturally-occurring phenomena and they do NOT make travel faster due to any inherent characteristic* other than efficient course-plotting. If you read through The Essential Atlas (or similarly reputable sources), it explicitly states, more than once, that they are merely safe pathways that have been manually mapped. That's it. They're free of gravitic mass shadows, anomalies, and other major hazards, and they're maintained by the Bureau of Ships and Services (unless it's a secret lane maintained by militaries or private parties likes Hutts and smugglers). Due to supply and demand, the MAJOR lanes are the most useful and therefore kept the most up-to-date and safe to travel upon. Most navicomputers by circa 1,000 BBY update BoSS's database periodically (storing data on each jump until uploading at a registered port) and it's a criminal offense to tamper with a ship's ability to help maintain safe hyperspace lane mappings -- literally imagine being forced to "opt-in" to sending anonymous usage data to "help improve stability/performance" on real-world software, since it's for public safety and commerce in this case. Major lanes have wider births and are endlessly maintained thanks to their heavy traffic; minor or seldom-traveled lanes may fall into "disrepair" or become outdated in the sense of no longer being safe due to stellar drift or other variables. * Technically there is one phenomenon that improves the actual efficacy of a hyperspace lane, and that is the Empire's cutting-edge practice of S-thread boosting -- an exorbitantly costly and laborious process of lacing a lane with S-thread "boosters." Not much on it, but it did pop back up in Disney's canon. It's very "recent" in Star Wars history (Original Trilogy era) and had nothing to do with the colonization or mapping of any part of the galaxy. In all other contexts, hyperlanes are said to be plain old vacuum spacetime (EDIT: and their 1:1 hyperspace-volume equivalents). They're just safe routes. If you ever want an extra fact-checker, I have a pretty hefty library of pre-Disney material and I used to do a lot of work on Wookieepedia. Just reply here if it strikes your fancy. MTFBWY

I think it had to do with the Kwa, the ancient civilization from the Dawn of the Jedi series. They did have Infinity Gates that were more efficient and reliable than Hyper Drives. There once was a Prime Gate on Tython, which is a planet that had the original Jedi. And, if I remember correctly, Darth Vader visited that planet in a cannon comic. The Prime Gates are Infinity Gates that can take users anywhere they want without the use of another Infinity Gate on the other side. Maybe the unexplored half of the galaxy has multiple of them, and the Kwa did something to prevent them from being discovered, like the one on Tython.
