Back then, 1 BTC was worth ~$230 USD. If the guy held onto that $100k worth of BTC to present day, it would be millions more now in late 2021. Take $50k as an example value from this year. His BTC would be worth over $21M. (100,000 divided by 230) x 50k = 21,739,130

For a Rifftrax Live event, it was extremely hard to laugh at a movie that is trying to look like a bad movie. The most I laughed in this movie was when the pilot instructor was sucked through the hole in the roof/skylight. I expected a shark to fall on her but the digital effects of her being sucked out was so bad in a hilarious way that I laughed solidly for thirty seconds in the theatre, which caused others in the audience to laugh at MY laughing. The best Riffraxable movies are ones like Birdemic where they are sincerely trying to make an excellent movie and failing miserably.
@joeskis2 жыл бұрын
Yes the film is self-aware. But I'm pretty sure if they were capable of it they would prefer to make a legitimate movie.
@control_the_pet_population2 жыл бұрын
I would say as a general rule of thumb, earnest but unintentionally horrible movies make for the best subjects... but just about anything that is goofy fun on it's own works just fine. The first Sharknado is self-aware, they know they are making a goofball direct-to-SciFi Channel nonsense movie and are having fun with it... but generally speaking the actors are playing it straight. They aren't winking to the audience... so I think it works just fine for riffing. On the other side of the spectrum... you've got something like Red Zone Cuba. Coleman Francis was certainly trying to make a legit movie and failing miserably... but it's soooo goddamn dull and inept that no amount of riffing could save it. I'll take a self-aware Sharknado any day over Red Zone Cuba or The Castle of Fu-Manchu.
@joeskis2 жыл бұрын

2:14 Unknown to most, sharks can smell blood in the water and in the air with their amazing power to breathe oxygen. 5:02 Get out of the water! Or you might be one person every two years that gets killed by a shark. More people accidentally die in their own bathrooms per year. 9:04 That's actually the Plot waving the white flag on trying to follow this movie. 16:57 Stupiest plan ever. You do know Torados fling things everywhere, right? 18:18 She is one of the 41 people that is bitten by a shark in the entire U.S. Later on, a Shark will save her life and learn we aren't so different after all. 17:23 A shark once stole his lunch money and bulled him. 18:41 Instead of trying to use a chainsaw on a flying shark, he could just move out of the way. And let it splatter onto the concrete and die. But that wouldn't be as nearly as stupid. No pushback at all from slicing a one-ton shark in half. Almost like it is CGI. 19:05 If she had a chainsaw, she would have lived. 21:09 Believe it or not, a shark's stomach can fit not just one but two people inside it. 21:38 She was choking on all the B.S. in this movie. 22:23 Covered in blood. Must be his time of the month. Ok, I'm done. Now you can give it the one thumbs up, youtube guy.

I loathe this movie so much and think it's actually beneath the Rifftrax guys. "Bad on purpose cuz it's a joke, you see!" movies deliberately designed to be cult films are the worst thing there are. I respect "Manos" or "Miami Connection" more than this bullshit - at least those people were trying to make a real movie, however deficient in talent and resources they were. To give the Sharknado hacks the honor of riffing is just to reward them. I did enjoy John Heard, who's such a pro he couldn't help but be entertaining; killing him off early was the last straw for me.
@moebetta42243 жыл бұрын

I think these live shows aren’t what people think they are. I bet people go thinking these guys will be funny off the cuff. But they’ve already watched the movie and are reading their comments. So why watch it live? What’s the difference between live and recorded? The only difference I see is that one of them may drop dead live.
@wileyschmitt5 жыл бұрын
The audience is mostly made up of msties who are between the ages of 35 and 55, and who grew up watching MST3K and would pay a lot of money to see these guys do their thing live, and the amount of live show they've done (which are fully funded by the fans) would probably surprise you. They do a few extras before the movie, and they comedically banter and in between and often have special guest riffers on certain occasions such as Trace and Frank, or Mary Jo and Bridget, including a reunion with about 10 different people who used to work on MST3K, as well as Jonah the new guy, doing a whole bunch of different shorts. Rifftrax and MST3K isn't for everyone, but those who do like it appreciate the humor to a point where it's their favorite thing ever, and that's where the live shows and support come from and there's enough of them to keep it going despite being off the air for nearly 20 years.
@wileyschmitt4 жыл бұрын
True, and I forgot to mention that as well, there is definitely a different feel to the live shows and I for one like it a lot better than a standard VOD that was studio recorded, and my Rifftrax library, which contain lots of both, has most of the live shows that are available (and of course have gone to the watch many times at theaters that were streaming the live shows every summer).

Given how awful some of these movies are, you may not be far from the truth.
@mythra71744 жыл бұрын
Some people like a shared experience with other fans, not just watching at home. Comedians don't do things "off the cuff" either - they write their jokes ahead of time (though they might add lib based on the audience reactions and responses) - but people still go see them live. Same thing here. I don't think anyone who knows who they are, are expecting it not to be scripted. The riffers interact with the crowd, though. And even those who are watching it in a different theater and not at the one where they are at still get that live feel and shared experience with other like-minded fans. It's more fun. People still go see movies in a theater when they could just watch it at home as well. It's just a different feel.
