Wilhelm Kempff Plays Liszt's Petrarch Sonnets Nos. 47, 104, and 123. (1951 Recording)

Wilhelm Kempff (1895-1991) was a German pianist. He had a long career leaving behind over 60 years of recordings. He was considered to be one of the most influential pianists in the 20th century. The New York Times said in his obituary that he was known for his "lucid searching interpretations of the Romantic repertoire."
Like other early London recordings I have posted before, this one was recorded with very good sound for its time, however, the vinyl shows its age and over 70 years of being played.

MORE THAN PRECIOUS !!! REALLY! There is only a question due to KZbin algorithm not to users or uploaders: THE CONTENT LOUDNESS that change the "balance" of frequencies adapting to a standard that a few times is OK ... but the most (especially with CLASSICAL) change very delicate audio balance- CLICK right nmouse button on the video, choose NERD STATHISTICS and verify content loudness -5.0dB (this menas that they reduced non only the format but re equalize original audio U uploaded). CONTENT LOUDNESS should be 0.0 dB or 0,1 DB //- 0,1 DB .... That's seems of no importance but if U listen with attention U will notice a "change" respect ORIGINAL AUDIO.... IS NOT SIMPLY to AVOID this manipulation but is important

Yes. Of course this was not recorded with RIAA curve because it was recorded before 1954. I make adjustments for this but they are not always perfect. You are correct that algorithms of Audacity, Imovie and finally KZbin also affect the sound. Audacity especially is affected by noise on the record. For example, a loud noise (such as a scratch on the record) may become the 0.0 decibel level, and thus the proportion of loud and soft in the music is not correct. After removing the scratch, then the volume must be adjusted so that the loudest music (not noise) is 0.0. However, even this is very hard to make perfect. I try my best to prepare the music for KZbin, and after 400 videos I am still learning!

​@@ly776 Great explanation! There is a platform that does not manipulate sound: ODYSEE but it is little known. (you can also upload videos with audio in WAV at 192 khz 32 bit for example). However, having to do with HISTORIC VINYLS there are many compromises and I know the difficulty and the problems you have exposed very clearly! You are doing a great job uploading great interpretations and I thank you: you think that I deal with sound research and one of the main points is the RESTORATION. (This is my classical channel, Arksoundtek is the other). You are right speaking about crack noises: a lot of time to adjust is necessary (and manually) I want to thank you for sharing and appreciate your hard job! 👏👏👏

@@arksoundtek I understand more clearly what you were referring to in the message above. KZbin does not increase the sound of videos if they are too quiet. However, if a video is too loud then they will reduce the volume - as you said. Normally, my videos with stereo are not loud enough (but for some like mono recordings the videos are too loud.) For new videos, I am adjusting the volume of the videos in iMovie before exporting the video to optimize for KZbin.
