Anecdotally a lot of EV fans care more about car tech and luxe/bling aspects compared to dynamic driving and quality handling Kia spends a lot of money on that and it shows in results. I guess non media don't appreciate it as they don't get to spend many hours in new EVs like I do

With google map you can download the map of a wider area where you are going to travel to (offline mode)without using Mobile Data... Do you have that in Waze?

Unfortunately Waze is best used when you're driving with mobile data coverage all the time. Google Maps is the best free solution for offline maps as it allows you to pre download huge sections of a map and keep them for weeks

If you do most of your driving at lower speeds, and mainly around town, then the Kia is much better than the Model Y. It does not have the hyper-active safety systems that throw on the brakes every ten minutes, has better all-round visibility and access, and has local dealerships. The lack of a heat pump is not a major issue around town or anywhere north of Sydney. However, for longer trips, the Tesla's better aerodynamics and access to the full Supercharger network are impossible to ignore and the phantom braking is less of an issue. Horses for courses, but I reckon most people will be better off with the Kia. (Model Y owner here)

I tested this straight after an Xpeng G6, and although I would prefer the reassurance of a brand that's well known in Australia I just didn't see the value in the EV5. Maybe the EV3 will paper over some of the shortfalls in equipment and be a more reasonable price, but then it's a much smaller vehicle.

That's a 2-way choice a lot of Aussies will be facing. buy a fancier Chinese brand like Xpeng with a new distributor, new dealer locations and new servicing partner ... Or stick with an established EV brand like Kia that has built up a long reputation here and has existing dealerships, servicing and parts availability etc

It's a much better choice than Tesla. Kia / Hyundai ev cars has VTL, which you also can use as VTH and, of course, a better warranty. I would never buy a Tesla because I don't want to support Trump.

It's way too expensive in Australia, it's $30k AUD to buy it in China but it's $56,000 in aus. Even with the local on road charges, there is no justification for this kind of increase. Perhaps the EV3 will be better value but it's simply not attractive enough to win over the number of people they're hoping for. Yes the toys are great, but only if you buy the top of the range?! No wireless phone charging unless you have the GT line? Really?

It's made in China so of course it's cheaper to sell there. Also Australia has a lot more local safety rules and regulations that cost substantially in time and money before a new car can be sold here

Because this was the media launch event for this car. Not the model Y refresh which doesn't exist yet. Everyone in the world doesn't want a Tesla. some do, some don't. It's good to have choices
