We've put about 2000 miles on our EV9 GT-Line so far and still loving it. No problems or concerns with ours. There are a couple of minor differences between the Kia and our old Model Y that we find annoying, but otherwise we think it's a fantastic car. And great for families with multiple kids, which is why we bought one.
@seanm46123 ай бұрын
What do you find annoying? I own a Model 3, but want to buy anything besides Tesla so wondering what I will miss moving to Kia?
@AlexBerman13 ай бұрын
@seanm4612 look at the IONIQ6. I LOVE mine. Probably less app features than Tesla but pretty sufficient. It's Highway Driving Assistant 2 in the SEL and Limited is pretty fantastic, yes it could be better but it gets the job done. The only thing that can fit in the front is the Level 1 "charger" I'm getting pretty close to what Kyle's car was reading in Francie's last trip video. That's about 3.5 miles/kwh average. OTA basically doesn't exist which can be annoying. You can get the updates off a computer onto a USB drive and load them that way but it's clunky and I feel I'm one behind and can't force the newest update. Get a dongle for wireless Carplay/Android Auto. Probably the biggest annoyance is the charging network. There's a lot near me coming online, Tesla put in like 15 units, Electrify America put in 6. They're just not as prevalent unfortunately. But I've held 240kW all the way to 55% when possible. Typically my sessions take 15 mins, after sitting perhaps an hour waiting unfortunately. But if you have a home EVSE that is not a common problem. I just got two years of free charging so I'm going to use it. Yes I realize I'm part of the problem. The door handles presenting out when in park can pose a security issue so just remember to lock vehicle if going into park and sitting. But like I said I love it!

I've had my Wind Trim EV9 since May and have put almost 20k miles on it. Loving it so far outside of the charge port overheating when AC charging above 32A. It's being replaced under warranty. Edit: And in regards to the volume not going above 5, if you have the voice projection speaker function thing active, sound audio will not go above 5 so that people in the back can hear your voice over the speaker. And also with Utility mode and locking the car, if you turn Utility mode on, roll the window down on the driver's side. Exit the car. Reach into the car through the window, press the door lock button, then roll the window up in order to have Utility mode on with the car locked. Press the indent in the door to unlock the car. Easy~

I’ve never been an EV fan, but circumstances required me to get a 4th vehicle for only two years. Because of the deals, I decided to try a EV9 . As long as one understands and or can live with the limitations of EVs, the EV9 is currently (10/24) an exceptional value. KIA is currently marking these down $14,800, offering a 2.7% equivalent money factor, and a 62% residual. With 0 down, on a 24 month lease, that puts the LAND/GT models, in the $670-$750 a month range, This will depend on options and any additional dealer discounts. I’ve been impressed with the vehicle so far. I will agree that the climate control locations is odd, but usable with the center screen layout. I don’t mind the on/off and drive stalk. The software suite is odd to say the least. Once I understood its layout it was easy to operate. Kia seems to update it frequently. The ECO Mode is great for around town. While not necessary, the Sports Mode is amazing quick for a vehicle this size (sub 5 second 0-60). The autonomous driving aids work incredibly well. The seats are very comfortable (subjective to me). A 20%-80%, on the 38 amp included home charger, takes around 6 hours to charge at night and cost me around $8 a charge. I charge about once every 6 days or so. The range is more than enough, unless your lifestyle requires hundreds of miles a days. The 350watt DC charges (when available and working…lol) really are as quick as advertised. I have used this a few times on a longer trip and it’s doesn’t really add that much additional time to charge along the way. It would be totally unacceptable for a person who doesn’t like to wait or stop for 20 minutes or so, twice, on a 4-5 hour trip. If you’re in the EV market and need a larger vehicle, this should be on the short list.

EV9 light long range is a major value. Test drove the new Land Cruiser then this EV9 light long range. Even though they are not the same category, they are priced very similarly. For on-road city/freeway driving, the EV9 drives really smooth and accelerates fine (especially city driving). For the owners who will actually use the LC offroad-- go with the LC. But for majority of drivers who stay mostly on road and some dirt roads to access hiking trailheads, the EV9 will impress. Especially since they are leasing so aggressively, (299/month 2k due at signing. Thats better numbers than leasing a sportage). Sidenote: they need to add KIA/Hyundai to the Tesla Supercharger network in early 2025---🎉

I have a Land with Boost. It's probably one of the best vehicles I've owned. It blows both Model Ys we've had out of the water, and I like it better than our previous Model X. I agree with almost all of the negatives though, still not digging the shifter and I constantly have to fiddle around with the infotainment system to get to what I actually need to. That said, we got our (at sticker) $72k Land for $60k...and it's more than worth it for us.
If you tap the + in the top right of the climate panel, it expands it to the main screen. Just traded in 2018 Cayenne for Wind AWD and as long as you don’t drive it super hard, it’s much nicer. Comparable seats, much quieter and more comfortable, materials are at least no worse. Wind > Land for second row bench, 19s with more sidewall, and matte wheel arches since gloss will get very scratched with daily use. Averaging 3.2 mi/kWh with best drive of 4.7 over about 11 miles at street speeds.

My thoughts after a 1350 mile road trip through Europe: - missing basic features like auto-lock - does not save any driving preferences - great charging curve - quiet and comfy inside - auto lane keeping assurance moves left to right of the lanes constantly. Left right again and again. - app is clunky - sat nav is clunky - does not allow to set your soc at arrival or departure - beeping fest, needs to deactivate every single time - does not save 1pedal driving. - had mayor issues charging in IONITY network (will confirm in way back)

The eGMP platform has a major issue that hasn’t been resolved for a few years now. The ICCU failures are quite common and Hyundai/KIA just replaces it with the same part so it will again when you’re out of warranty eventually. Some people are waiting over a month for dealer to get parts. Once the ICCU fails, the car is not drivable.

Since the issue was fixed, they’ve had no issues and love the car. The dealer provided compensation by installing crossbars and other accessories onto their vehicle, free of charge.

Kyle I love your videos, thanks nerding out and sharing good info on EVs! That said, please stop saying the Kia EV9 is so great for families. It’s not. Cargo space is pathetic, third row isn’t good and pretty much every video you see with them, the 3rd row is folded. It’s great for SMALL families. Families that could get away with a 5 seater. If you actually need to use the third row on a daily basis, it’s not a good option at all. If you only need 5 seats then a Mach E or Model 3 or a host of other options work great and have about as much cargo space as an EV9 with the third row down. Any family trying a road trip with an EV9 and actually needing to use the third row will not have enough space for cargo. Which leaves you with a rooftop box, which butchers range. As far as I’m concerned, the ID Buzz and R1S are the only practical real size family vehicles.

Super dumb question from someone who’s never owned, or even driven for that matter, an EV but researching for my next car purchase. Both Jordan and Kyle commented on the software in the EV9 and the gap between using CarPlay vs using an EV’s built-in route planning. What is the perfect solution to that? As someone who is used to having seamless wireless CarPlay, not having it seems like a step backwards technology-wise. But of course you would need integration with the car’s battery system to effectively route plan. Is there a solution where Kia, or any EV maker, will integrate such that you can use CarPlay (Google maps) to route plan?
@ouch10113 ай бұрын
Hot take: the 200hp that the EV9 RWD has plenty of power for the average driver, and the 0-60 is right on par with a ton of other vehicles in the same size class. It would be better if they’d retained the higher battery voltage the smaller battery has (and the additional 15hp) but 200hp is totally fine. It’s almost a full second faster to 60 than my older Suburban. There’s only 2 big things I really wish my EV9 GT-Line did better: significantly better efficiency (at least 10%, but really more like 25+%) and useful route planning. The route planning (as previously noted) is awful. The navigation itself is fine, the route planning is nearly useless. I’ll probably swap out the stock 21” wheels and massive 285 width tires for something a bit more efficiency minded when they wear out. The 12V battery did die on mine once. I jump started it and never had another issue. There have been multiple software updates to address it. The battery preconditioning does work with the built in navigation, but you can also use the manual preconditioning button, which is nice to have as an option (wish all manufacturers would do that, including Tesla). Kyle, I know you don’t think the orange light on the dash to let people know that the HV system is active is needed. I’m one of the people who says what it’s there for. I don’t care if you think it’s needed or not. I think every car should have it. It’s not there for people like you who don’t know the difference between a wrench and a socket. It’s there for people who actually work on their own cars, or work on them professionally (like me). Sorry if you think that’s offensive, but if you’re going to call me (and others) out in a video, I’m going to call you out. It’s not as easy as you think to disable the HV system (non destructively) on most cars, nor is it necessary if you can determine that it’s on/off with a quick glance. If you’re actually working on cars on a daily basis, that sort of stuff matters

Sound clarity of the Meridian system is it pretty meh coming from BMW/Harman Kardon. No idea why it's necessary to go and turn the car off from the stalk to be able to lock it. Way too many button presses needed to turn off the beepity-boop of the mandatory in EU speed limit and attentiveness monitoring systems. All of it (except maybe the sound) could be fixed by software and it would get a full thumbs up, but I'm not holding my breath. Watched a Podcast from the UK where they covered the whole speed/performance and 0-60 times mentioned that sounds like a number(more than a number) of Model 3 owners who crashed it within the first few weeks of ownership due to the instantaneous torque and possibly showing off and unable to deal with it having just migrated from their old dinosaur car. Most people just want a car and don't need 0-60 times or how fast it went around the Nurburgring.

That’s not going to change. It’s a voltage design difference that will never change until they redo the entire car.

wish you could comment on elements that matter when in *long term* ownership context: - How are the seats holding ? - The heating/cooling coming from the roof. ughh... heat rises so in cold weather.... - Does the cold reaches the rear occupants with good power ? - The 110V AC outlet, have you used it ? can you cook while camping ? - Squeaks / rattlings have developped ? In 6 months how often did you drive it ? if you took it for 3 long drives in 6 months and stayed parked for majority of the 6 months I dont know how realistic is the 6 months ownership ...

I laugh at the "Rudolph" 12V charging LED that my wife's Kona EV has as well.

That light is only fitted to the NA versions of the EGMP cars. It does seem to be rather pointless.

We've had our GT line for about 4 months now and it has been a pretty amazing vehicle. I often prefer to ride in this over my Taycan, especially for road trips. Very comfortable and great build quality for the money. Def has some software issues that are annoying when they crop up, even one yesterday that was downright dangerous when the driver display screen and the HUD went blank and we couldnt even see what speed we were driving at. Shutting the car down for 30 mins fixed it, but I'd hate for that to happen on a road trip. I'm pretty sure the latest software update caused that as a few others have reported it happening to them after the update. The vehicle itself tho is great and we uses it for our big dogs and our teen son and there is just plenty of room for all.

No offence to you KZbinrs but you all bitch about the HVAC Controls being not visible yet you all always forget to mention that plus button on the top of it that pushes it over to the other screen. Really this shouldn’t be a complaint as it’s so easy to work around that! Unless all you don’t know you can do that… if that’s the case, maybe do more research and let the audience know about this as I think many people will have a different opinion on it with the simple reality that a button makes it easy to see! #justsaying #FYI

I am moving to Colorado just for the cheap electric car leases
@49erLA25 күн бұрын
Car Dealers treating EVs like ICEs by still offering 10k miles a year on a lease is crazy! They are not gas engines and don't have that same wear and Tear! That's a complete scam it should at least be 14k miles a year.

In Europe the id buzz is now available cheaper with a 285 hp motor on the rear wheels…

Basically no tow capability in comparison though.

And much less range (250 WLTP) plus 400-volt charging and capacitive touch everything. Very cool look though.
@mortense88583 ай бұрын
@@Ficon that’s not entirely true. The WLTP range of the Id Buzz is 455 km. And the max charge rate is 180 kW at 400V/500A. The EV9 only charges at max 210 kW as it is not true 800V.
