Will A Dual Clutch Transmission Work in a DRIFT CAR? Automatic? Sequential? MANUALFIGHTER!

Today, We showcase a 2JZ swapped BMW that Drift HQ built with a OEM BMW DCT transmission. DHQ is known for building extremely clean cars that are packed full of really nice parts that they sell on their site. With this car the goal was to push the limits of what's possible with the DCT transmission in the drifting world.
One of the key modifications we explore in this video is the installation of a dual clutch transmission (DCT). By utilizing a standalone controller, they are able to make an OEM BMW DCT transmission from a M3 work like a standard sequential and somewhat like a manual transmission in a drift competition scenario. We go over the process build process and dig into how it incorporates the cars data in order to function and be tunable for each driver.
We also take a look under the hood to explore the engine modifications that make this car such a beast on the track.
Finally, we take the car out for a spin at LZ's place to put it through its paces. We test its ability to handle high wheel speeds up and downshifts mid drift, and even give the programmer of the controller some feedback.

Amazing technology, this is a game changer for these and the automatic Supras. There will be some wicked new drift cars out there. Can't wait for LZ to get his Supra sorted out. For lift use carbon scuba tank just compressed air could use a lot like 3500psi with regulator to lift what we used with roadside to run air guns and tools with no compressor fill every like 2nweeks could change 75 tires or so. Also doesn't get cold like co2 which can be bad for seals

He’s only the first functioning DCT drift car because im too poor to finish mine 😂. But on a serious note, I’m in the process of putting an 8hp70 behind my LS in my e46 to be fully functional as a sequential setup with virtual clutch pedal in a drift car application.

@@chelseadenofa yeah I’m not using the type of pedal they’re using. I’m using a VW gas pedal and it actually has tension. Then I’m using a different TCU that’s better than the HTG. I believe the 8hp70 was lighter than the 6speed ZF with clutch and what not. It’ll be cool and different once it’s done. Lot of cool adjustments you can do with them since it’s on its own brains

Just looked and the 8hp isn’t much of a gain over the manual trans. Like 8-10lbs without fluid. The 8hp70 is a 9liter system depending on cooler size.

There is much better options for dct controller. No soldering or internal wiring on dct, so total cost is pretty much half what htg setup cost.

Not really. Koenigsegg LST is way different. It has seven clutches for 9 gears, at it essentially behaves as if every gear had it's own clutch.

your point about the e9x m3 diff is void. 7xx-750whp on mid boost Single turbo n54 car here. The weak points are the e9x non M axles, (the diff welded is fine) but inferior to m3 one by far. The m3 duffs dont like clutch kicks so I understand where youre coming from, it being a drift car. But you're going to run into axle issues. go SLG gforce axles, and add an M3 diff insert with full m3 rear end swap. Youre going to waste time going through OE axles. Through first hand experience

The 335is doesn't have the m3 Trans it's a different dct, though they are both dct transmissions the 335is drives significantly different
