Loved the vid. By the way, I think R Holdener ran 20 something pounds of boost on a factory bottom end 351w (with gapped rings) and went 1050hp! He eventually blew it up, but it seemed that the failure resulted from the way the pistons were clearanced (harmonics) and from how boost was applied NOT from something intrinsic to the block.

Crazy how people are quick to want to LS swap to be safe over 500hp when the 351W has been there the whole time. I'm SBF 💪 for life.

i can understand, the LS is a 2 decade old design, so it's what the young'uns grew up with compared to the Coyote. and the old guys really didn't mess with the 351W when Clevelands were still cheap in the junkyards. the fox movement in the 1980's gave the 351W guys some affordable aftermarket heads to use--otherwise they were trying to build Clevors or doing 377 cid strokers that required machining the crank to a 318 mopar or 300 I6 connecting rod and then balancing everything to a chevy piston--not as easy as a 383 stroker for the bowtie guys. but the word's getting out, due to video channels like Neomustang, Brew2L, 5.0 tussin, etc.

It is the second under rated motor behind the 289. But there is a great argument that you are right about the 5.8L being the best under rated motor for Ford production. #1- 5.8L ,#2- 460 cu in early years, #3-289 cu in solid cam from the factory with the day #2 mods bolt on and port. Great evening to you and your cars are the Boss.

Keep thinking bout a 393w! But my tci c4 is only rated for 450hp! We ran considerably more than that 1/8 mile tracks with well prepped c4s, but, if you're beside the road with a trail of tyranny fluid 5 light poles cops get really suspicious!😂 Probably live on street tires! 😂

Just awesome, you have seemed to make crazy horsepower out of a small block, have it hold together too, no crazy twin turbos, no mega supercharger, no nitros, just a balanced, well built motor w/ a single turbo, in a Foxbody that is crazy fast, and keeps getting faster. Just awesome.

Right now I'm in the process of working over a set of SCJ heads for my 460 that came out of a 97 F-350. Stock bottom end aside from replacement pistons and a set of ARP rod bolts. I've also got a performer RPM intake I've gotta work over and a custom cam from Scotty J hisself! It's gnna be going in my 90 LX hatchback which currently has a 351M and a C6 tranny. I'm gnna have the tranny gone thru before the whole thing goes in it all together.. Ya gotta love that big block sound and bottom end torque!!!! Ive wanted to do a BBF Foxbody since the 80's and now I've got all the parts to finally do it!!! And BTW, all the ppl crying aboot the 460's weighing so much??? A 460 with aluminum heads, intake, and water pump weighs right aboot or a lil less than an iron 351... Sooo not as heavy as ppl may think!! 😉

A turbo is actually softer on an engine than NA mechanically , due to the fact that it's kind of like gently coming into contact with the piston with the bumper of a car let's say and gradually applying more and more force as it accellerates.. A supercharger is the exact opposite - thats like smashing a truck against the piston at 60mph everytime a power pulse is generated. NA is kind of in the middle.

We’re killing it on the streets with a NA 418-W. The Ls turbo guys walking up with their flashlights looking for nitrous after they just got gapped is priceless. Skip White cylinder heads that I reworked and a hydraulic roller cam. Nothing exotic, just good old Ford power.

I'm with you 💯 on the 351W. I'll give the 302 its do, but personally, I wouldn't waste my time on one. I've had 302's, 351W's, carburated and EFI, a 400M (a 4 barrel carb really wakes those up by the way), and a few 460's. The 351W has overall been my favorite. And that beautiful firing order always used to give it a tone that really set it apart. Not so much anymore since roller 302's, LS's, and modern Hemi's all use the same firing order, if you number the cylinders in the same orientation. (Ford numbers their cylinders wrong IMO, at least from a builder's prospective.)

Is a great choice but then there are all the swap parts if you are having a fully equipped mustang. I wonder if you add up swap parts cost, it probably comes close to the difference of an aftermarket 8.2 deck block that doesn’t require swap parts. Of course if you just want NA big cubes swap to stroked 351w is perfect.

351 is my favorite Ford. Stock form it's already more cubes than a 347. Stronger blocks than the 8.2s. Can stroke it, or de-stroke it. Taller deck has inherently longer intake runners than 8.2 deck blocks, so always makes more TQ, all else being equal, regardless of stroke. Weighs less than BBF engines ... And can fit between the towers on smaller bodied Fords ... while still producing enough TQ to motivate a work truck. Plus can share the aftermarket support of the 8.2 blocks. I don't hate other Ford engines...I just love THE Windsor!

Crankshafts shouldn't lay down on concrete like that, they can get out of index. Better to bolt a burned flywheel under the table with a few bolts and hang the crank off it with the remaining bolts. but other'n that little thing, thanks for videos like this. the 351W always sat in the shadow of the Cleveland since the only "hi po" version was the 10:1 CR 300 hp model to compete with Chevy's 327 and 350 making that for Super Sports. the Fox Mustang did a big favor for the 351W--the aftermarket started making cylinder heads that fit both engines, and that got people interested in strokers better than the 377 cid with mopar 318 pistons and chevy turbo slugs or the 400M crank stroker setup.

That’s wicked!! Try to catch every vid, also I’ve been watching a lot of tuning vids and motor build vids lately. I saw a comment this week and there was a drag racer chris Watson who supposedly had a stock 302 motor boosted stock head intake bore supposedly damn near all stock in every way running in the stock motor drag class. But it was claimed he was making 900 on this motor drag racing it, I even looked him up and there was a article from when his brakes gave out and they said the same. That can’t be possible?! 900 on a stock block?! No f**king way!!?? What are your thoughts? Also, what are your thoughts on a 351c 4v closed chambered heads boosted 🤔 I’d love to see a vid just about different engine combos, classic blocks vs newer roller blocks, positive and negatives of the combos, do’s and don’t’s, I know it’s endless what you could talk about, you could make it like a 3 part vid each 1 hour maybe? But a engine tech vid on builds would be great!!! I’ve been reading alot about a long rod 302 build how the rev like hell to 8k-9k if done correctly, pistons sits a tdc for a long duration of time, better balance, I’m really contemplating that build. I have a 1969 .030 over block I want to build, but I’m fairly set on not doing a 347 and it will be boosted. Have a set of Cleveland 4v closed chambered heads I may use on it 🤣 But, when it comes to funds for the build I’m insanely tight, t5 trans is bad, rear end whines last owner just destroyed this car 😢 I’m about as broke as bidens brain at the moment. 🤣🤣🤣 and with a wife and 3 kids they come first and I only work, not complaining as I chose it. Just makes it hard to build my car 🤣 I apologize for the long a** comment, have a tendency to go on rants. Keep up the great vids!!! Love it!!!

The only reason the 351w aren't getting the love the LS gets is that they didn't come with a good enough aluminum head and intake on them from the factory(and most weren't roller cam) it's much cheaper to put together a stroker 351w right now, good aftermarket heads are out there for cheap. The cams aren't as cheap, performance intake manifolds are costly and the tuning solutions are only coming up to the same level of technology. I have a few LSs and a roller 351w. I like both, I would take a 351w over an old school 4" bore SBC any day. I am stoked to build a 351w stroker to put in front of the ZF-5 S47 in my '97 Reg cab 2wd F250HD. I might start out with a single plane and carb, it seems like it takes a Holley Hi-Ram to hang with a single plane intake, I am considering the Holley Sniper EFI system that uses the throttle body with 8 120lb injectors that supports 1300hp with boost on a 4150 intake and has the full tunability of a Terminator. Probably going with TFS 11R heads, at least a 408. Should be more than I could every use even if I have a long travel suspension with 39" tires.

Love these videos, but it's not a good idea to store a crankshaft on its side--they act like a spring inside the block, and regardless of what its cast or forged from, it will bend over time and need to be indexed for the next build. bolt it to a bad flywheel and store it standing on one end or hang it from underneath a workbench to get it out of the way.

I'm doing a 460 swap on mine and it costs aboot the same at it does for a 351 swap.. FPP has the whole swap kit for the 460, it's just motor mounts, an oil pan, and a set of headers. Wow I thought you had an aftermarket block in your car. What crank , rods and pistons? Who makes them ? I just bought a novi 2k. Not sure how long my stock block 347 will hang in there. I’d like to start building an engine. Good video.
