It is really hard to predict anything at this point. Just look at copilot and GPT. No one could've predicted their impact 10 months ago. And the way AI can exponentially develop, who knows what will be possible in say 3 years? Just using common sense, the dev industry will be massively shaken up by these new tools. Human creativity and intuition are powerful and maybe not easily replaced, but in my mind, if AI can do just 70% of this...companies will be very happy to replace a human who needs to be paid and pampered :D I don't want to sound all doom and gloom, this is just how I feel about it all. Being able to adapt quickly and learn, and let go of old beliefs and paradigms might be the best skills that can give an edge 🤷🏽‍♂

AI will be automating a lot of other jobs before they get to software development. Yes it's inevitable, but from my experience with chatGPT so far it's no better than intellisense. I agree that AI will not replace frontend developers overnight. However, as you already mentioned in your video, AI is very good at solving small, manageable problems. In my opinion, a website consists of many individual, logically encapsulated small components that interact in a complex interplay. The future frontend developer will rather define this interplay and make trade-offs, as you also describe in your video, and write less code manually. The real question is whether it endangers the jobs of frontend developers (in 2023/2024), and I believe the answer is more likely yes. If a company employs 10 frontend developers and suddenly tools appear that increase output, the boss will question whether they still need so many developers given the current demand. The job market will change in such a way that there will be a high demand for senior developers who are good at architecture and concepts, but less demand for those who write a lot of code. The demand in the job market will decrease as AI is such a powerful tool that smaller companies will need fewer developers. What happens when Copilot for Word and Excel is released and further developed? Will large departments that create diagrams, reports, and presentations all day still need as many employees as before? I doubt it. The same problem applies to frontend developers; we will need them in the future, but we will need much fewer than we do now.
@geniusmind7777

That's really a great point. And nearly 90% of all you said is super agreeable! But I have subtly different thoughts for its sub topics of your opinion. Like yes 100% agree that the job market and businesses would need more senior roles that can carry out software architecture and development concepts. The more CS minded developers would be more loved than repetitive coders (juniors), or at least fewer of coders in need. But I have a slightly different angle about the demand of developers in the future. Like, there might be more increased demand for whole levels of developers regardless senior or junior roles. It's because the demand for programming projects might be increased in line with better programming productivity with AI. A ton and ton of many more businesses in the future would transition to be more digital and more aggresively dabbed into digital development, making the most out of the great AI driven productivity innovation era. That would quickly consume the sinior developers into complex and important projects made by major corporations. And smaller companies with tight budget might struggle hiring good devs and end up having to look at mid or junior developers instead because they couldn't afford hiring senior or sinior devs are quickly dried up in the job market, simply taken away by bigger companies. There might be a whole lot more projects to be created in the future incomparably more than now, and this would easily cover the demand for junipr developers as well. The fact is not all companies can hire top notch developers. This would be similar to the future and the higher demand for devs with skyrocketed increase of digital projects would leave opportunities for junior and mid range developers too, who are less good at software architecture and concepts than seniors.

AI in future could replace writing templates like WP templates, frontend templates etc. and could cause markets like Envato market to crash or get oversaturated by AI. But custom program that is specified to clients needs will always be only codable by humans. Cause it's infinite starting params that would be have to fed to AI, and at that point the client would basically have to talk to the AI. 😀

There is a fundamental misconception here: An AI system (like GPT-3 or the much more capable next version, GPT-4) will most likely not be able to do everything a human developer can do within the next few years. But these systems will be able to do a bulk of the coding when given a specific order. The extent to which they can create code will increase, and their capabilities to take over more complicated development tasks will also increase. Always remember: This is just the beginning of the new big wave of AI systems. They'll get more specialized and way better very fast. When 90% of the coding work can be done by AI systems in a fraction of the time, what do you think will happen? Companies will restructure their development teams around that concept and exploit it to get rid of people. A company that has 100 developers today may only need 10 developers, who essentially do the clever thinking and feed the AI. And the AI does the rest. The roles of these human developers will change drastically. Those who are proactive and can adapt will survive - the rest will vanish.

There are several projects that I've put on back burner because there was not enough info and support available to proceed without a huge time waste. chatGPT got me going on those instantly with very good boiler plate stuff. You have to refine your question many times, work around its quirks, and 80% of the time it provides broken code in one way or another but it's enough to set you on the right path and allow discovery of things that were completely opaque before. Awesome tool in the hands of a seasoned developer. Might confuse some beginners though.

I agree. Apart from being pretty good at structuring regex, I've found ChatGPT to be incapable of writing decent routines, despite delivering what looks like good syntax. It even makes up javascript object methods that don't exist and when you report the routine fails it explains that''s because such and such a method doesn't exist and the correct function is some other fantasy it's dreamed up. This morning I was doing some basic web scraping using curl pipped into awk procedures. I could get clean files of the required data with fewer key strokes than it took to ask for corrections to the garbage I was getting back from ChatGPT.

It is difficult to predict exactly which jobs will be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI) in the future and at what rate. Both cybersecurity and software development involve complex tasks that require a high level of skill and expertise. It is possible that certain aspects of these jobs could be automated to some extent by AI, but it is unlikely that AI will be able to fully replace human cybersecurity professionals or software developers in the near future. There are many factors that could influence the extent to which AI could potentially replace human workers in these fields, such as the development of new AI technologies, the adoption of these technologies by companies and organizations, and the willingness of workers to adapt to new roles and responsibilities as AI becomes more prevalent in the workplace. Ultimately, the impact of AI on jobs in the cybersecurity and software development fields will depend on a range of complex factors, and it is difficult to make definitive predictions about the future.

No, AI is not likely to replace JavaScript developers anytime soon. AI is still in its early stages, and while there are some tools that can automate certain tasks, they are still not sophisticated enough to replace a human developer. AI may be able to assist developers in certain aspects of their work, but it is not likely to replace them entirely.

If you are old enough, you can still remember a a game called chess and chess players. After that guy Kasparov lost to Deep Blue, he and his colleagues went extinct. Instead of learning from ai and using it to evolve their beloved game, they gave up, rolled over and started plating chess-boxing. Sad but true story.

AI wont replace developers / engoneers / coders, but it will reduce the amount of job positions because if you are the boss and you know what openAI is capable of, you wont hire as many as developers like you do right now, I have been playing around with chatGPT these days and I have a lot of fun asking it to code my app and impressed by its capability. For one thing, openAI does not have awareness and doesnt know what is right or wrong, so it is impossible for AI to replace human jobs 😅

On the contrary, the world is getting technologized so much more and so much fast that even with an AI 10 times more powerful there aren`t sufficient programmers in the world and the numbers are confirming this.

@@jwoods9659 The hardware we have cannot allow AI to get that advanced. GPU based power is extremely limited, and only can do small incremental power increases. For AI to get to the level you are referring to... we need to have a ground breaking innovation in how we power graphics, data training models... etc. This seems very unlikely to occur. Quantum Computing could be the answer to the hardware limitations... and it is the answer. But Quantum Computing is in its infancy, and no where near ready to be common place.

It is unlikely that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace JavaScript developers in the near future. While AI and machine learning algorithms have made significant progress in automating certain tasks, they are not yet capable of fully replacing the skills and expertise of a human developer. JavaScript is a programming language that is used to build web applications and is a crucial part of the modern internet. It requires a deep understanding of how web applications work and how to design and build efficient and reliable software. While AI algorithms may be able to assist with certain aspects of development, they cannot fully replace the creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking that human developers bring to the table. Furthermore, the development of AI and machine learning algorithms requires a deep understanding of computer science and programming, which is typically acquired through years of study and practice. It is therefore unlikely that AI will be able to fully replace JavaScript developers in the near future.

Professional, employed, developers need be more concerned about the rise of the 'manager class' than of the march of AI. Like every specialised profession before, programming will become a trade where managers who spout bullshit will increase their pay at the expense of yours, undermine your performance and job satisfaction with micro-management, and blame you for crap you turn out to meet their demands.

It seems unbelievable that ai could do these things , but we'll see where this rabbit hole goes.. it might just be the case that you tell ai all about the project, organisation.. feed in the data and then it will churn out the full stack solution. I know it seems weird and we're used to thinking of computers as dumb enough that we all get to keep our jobs.. we'll see. If its the case, then i just hope the new tech creates new higher level technical roles. if we look at history it has always been the case that as machines took over, more roles got produced. mechanisation created mechs and engineers , computers created IT , programmers , webdev etc... and ai hopefully will create new skill sets. If not, then we're in some trouble. Its funny, I always thought if there are intelligent aliens that have reached us, then they would be naturally way way smarter than us to be able to reach us.. maybe they just have excellent ai.

@@geniusmind7777 Sorry bud, no trolling here. Just the cold, hard truth of our future reality. I didn't say ALL programmers and software engineers, I said MOST. And it's not that they will be totally unemployed, it's that they'll be underemployed. And you have seriously faulty logic. Just because most programmers will be out of a job, it does not then follow that 99% of everyone else will then be also. Sorry but you are way off the mark here. Development is far too nuanced to be automated. Code optimisation is smth different, been around for decades. If you are glueing together a web app and writing no code, this is not development. If you think your developer job can be automated out of existence, get a harder job.
