Cedar Point is one of my favorite places, but is some of the magic being stripped away from this great place?
I think the answer may be yes. and we're gonna talk about the trajectory Cedar Point was on and how they seem to have taken a 180 degree turn in their plans over the last couple seasons.
So, let's talk about why Cedar Point might suck in 2024 and why I might be visiting a greater number of other amusment parks.

Just fyi, cedar point only paid $20 in 2020 so this isn’t the first year with a lower wage for workers. And $15 isn’t a flat rate, it can go higher depending on position and experience.

Go to Holiday World in Santa Clause Indiana. It’s family owned in a small town. Comes with logs of perks such as free parking, feee unlimited soft drinks, free sunscreen, HUGE water park included in admission price. Almost never have anything close to the crowds that Cedar fair parks have. They have 5 big roller coasters and 1 kiddie coaster. The water park is huge with 3 water coasters. Later in the summer they have an AMAZING drone show that is most definitely worth it. Almost nothing inside the park is corporate. I have been going every year since 2004 and it is so so fun. It’s an amazing family and thrill park that supports a family owned business that has been opened since August 1946. I promise you will love the environment and find so many fun ways to keep you entertained during the day.

I go there to have fun and sight see. I don’t go there to see the ignorant people fight. If I wanted to see that, I’d go to the ix indoor center lol.

I just went to CP, haven't been in a few years....We had a good time, but it did feel "different'. As if it lost some of it's charm. Few live events that I used to enjoy for the A/C, break from the walking. The employees didn't seem as "joyful". Seemed less music in the park. Pretty much every single ride was 1 hour+ wait. We hit on zero rides without significant wait time. Without fast pass, which I won't buy due to the expense, I doubt I'll return anytime soon. This video sort of explains it....also getting out of the parking lot after close was just silly. That being said, we rode Steel Vengeance for 1st time and it was awesome.

2019 was the last year CP felt like a park that cared about guests. Until the fall hit, and they started selling the $99 gold pass. After that, it seemed like the attitude shifted to "get as many people in as possible. Get more people in! More! Money! Money! Money!"

That’s Hershey park. Their annual attendance is approaching 5 million and they don’t have anything other than the parking to accommodate such crowds. The walking paths are only wide and mainstream at the front of the park, walk in a little deeper and it will get ridiculously cluttered. their staff is levels lower than cedar point. Remember, Hershey’s longest coaster is approximately the length of Maverick. All their rides are pretty short in length. That’s the only reason their operations appear good. Although wildcat revenge does have a way better station setup and cedar point should absolutely positively explore options on cloning the station for Steel vengeance. That’s pretty much the only thing Hershey does better. Hershey is a funnel for 5 million people that think it’s the best park in the country. Little funny but while everyone is there getting lousy ridership totals, I’m at just about every other local and semi local alternative crushing their ridership numbers. Last year before the 4th of July at Dorney alone, I got more night rides on all their rides, than most Hershey season passholders got the whole season at Hershey. Same with Kennywood, Darien lake, etc. don’t feed a funnel is all I’m saying.

To put it simply the majority of guests at cedar point didn't care about those attractions and events that have been removed, or at least not enough to justify the cost of running them. Most guests didn't even know about Snake River expedition or Forbidden Frontier, and most people who did know about them would rather spend their time riding coasters anyway. We all want to see Cedar Point be the best possible experience, but at the end of the day they need to make a profit as well.

This trend started at great adventure. They were all about attendance. They’re 45 minutes from NYC and Philly. Two top 5 metropolitan regions. They wanted that business and they just weren’t prepared for it. Great adventure has cooled down with lots of crowd control policies. If you don’t have a season pass you have to take out a mortgage just to go there and that certainly kept the crowds at bay in some ways. Not all ways. But Great adventure does deserve some credit as the walkways are mainstream and wide from side to side and they at least have space to fit the people they dreamed of having in their park. They’re also right off an interstate. So they can absolutely get people in and out. Now cue Hersheypark. Hershey used to be a small family picnic spot that brought rides in gradually. It’s very landlocked and and it’s built in a small town that really wasn’t prepared for the traffic it’s getting these days with Hersheypark now taking a similar approach. Hershey will have close to 5 million annual visitors this year. The parking lot can handle such crowds but the park and staff can’t. The paths are only mainstream when you first walk in. Walk back in a little further and it’s gonna be cluttered! And their staff is never a top 5 amusement park staff. Remember the chocolate factory is also in town. Locals will get a much better package working at the chocolate factory than they will working at Hershey park. So Hershey is stuck playing 2nd banana in terms of employment and they basically get all the rejects from the factory. Hershey isn’t raking up the desirable employees. Ever since Hershey started trying to get as many people in as possible, they really have killed the experience. I do believe cedar point though Will survive. It’s an employment leader in their area, the walkways, staffing, can handle whatever they get thrown, I don’t think we have to worry just yet. But this is definitely not a good sign.

This is one of the few times that I really agree with 1 of your videos. Cedar Point is a very, very special place for me. As well. I currently live outside of Atlanta, Georgia but grew up in Toledo Ohio and I really can see everything that you're talking about as far as Cedar Point. Going corporate national, whatever you want to call it, but they still do need. That intimacy with people who have gone to Cedar Point for years and years and years. I've been going to Cedar Point since 1987 good video again. I hope you're wrong but I really do see where you're coming from. And I'm kind of seeing a little bit of that as well. I'm pumped for CP 2024!!! I go there for coaster riding only. I've been going to CP since 1996, and have never once watched a show or parade. (Except for the dolphin show on my first visit). So for me personally, I couldn't care less about entertainment additions or deletions. I would like to see more thrill rides, flat or coaster, being added more regularly like they did back in the day. I definitely agree that removing those entertainment options won't help with crowd control. Also it could be that CF was in a phase of focused family options for CP, and decided that what they added during that phase was sufficient. I'm assuming that SRE wasn't cost effective for the traffic it was getting. Keep on riding and I hope to see you out there this season!!!

We’re no longer in the coaster wars era where parks competed to build the biggest and baddest rides. Amusement parks are going for family friendly rides since they bring in the most guests. You’ll never see a ride like i305 built again in the US.

Yes, I understand the time frame and reasons behind the coaster wars lol. But Trent asked for viewer opinions, so I obliged. Is a new 150ft+ ride addition every 3-5 years too much to ask lol? Yes, almost certainly, but that's what I want from CP. I know I'm in the minority of CP visitors, (unmarried & no kids) , and I spend practically $0 in the park thanks to Gold Pass w/ drink pass added. So I get why they're not overly concerned about pleasing the "me's" out there. I hope your pumped for the upcoming season at your home park!!! Keep on riding!!!

I'm just not super excited for Top Thrill like I was for Steel Vengeance or Maverick. Especially after seeing the full cycle posted on social Media yesterday. It takes off so slow, only goes up a quarter of the way before the roll back. To me it looks like a much weaker version of the dragster. It may be busier than normal... but then again if it's just slightly busier and everyone of those extra people are waiting in top thrills 5 hour line... would it make the rest of the lark that much busier? I just can't see thousands more a day coming just to ride this. I love roller coasters and honestly I'm not even thinking about riding this

They don't generate crowds, that means that the crowds are heavily concentrated elsewhere which causes longer lines and consumer disappointment. If every part of the park pulls semi equal portions of the crowd via distribution, lines are shorter at all attractions. It's highly complicated to pull this off, especially when there is a cult following at attractions that don't hold their weight numbers wise. No one likes to close an attraction that some people really love, but if that group is considerably smaller than the people who couldn't care less, the majority takes presidence.

I still like the park, but not near as much as I did 20 years ago. I like a well rounded park experience with some slower paced things and atmsphere, I think the coaster lineup peaked in 2000 for me. I'd rather have things like White Water Landing, Paddlewheel, Disaster Transport etc over the off the shelf modern rides. Fastlane has also helped kill the park to me, lines are so slow now, plus I think they purposly don't care as much about efficiency in order to sell more of it. The early 2000's, park was so good at throughput, not anymore.

I'm disappointed in the direction live entertainment seems to be heading. I dislike the aesthetic of the new TT2, but I realize that is just a personal thing for me. Most people probably won't mind it. The food got better in recent years so that is a positive thing. I will always love the lakeside setting, Maverick and SteVe. Those things are enough to get me there a couple of times a year, but will I make over a dozen visits in a season like I did last year? Probably not. I'd rather get some new experiences at other parks.

Personally I've never cared about the live shows, i think it would be cool/fine to have 1 show and then i really think they should bring back the big projector screen and do shows on that just before the park closes like in the past

I agree that the quality is lacking at cedar point. Rollercoasters closed, restaurants (that bring in additional revenue) closed, poor operations...not the Cedar Point that I remember. But you keep emphasizing that they are cheating the loyal public (you and me) to make the stockholders more money. This may be true but remember two things. Any stock held corporation has a primary obligation to bring a return to those who invest in their business. Maybe what they are doing now is not the way to do that for long term favor by the guests and the stockholders. And also, in the discussion of the Cedar Fair and Six Flags merger, I believe it has been stated that Six Flags AND Cedar Fair are each like $2 billion in debt. I am sure that Cedar Fair is trying to save $$ where they can to pay off the debt and the interest they are incurring as a result of it. Not an easy place to be in, I'm sure. I agree with you though...coming to the park and having all these food locations and coasters closed is NOT good for business...that is you and me spending our hard-earned money there!!

@@zachfarb9039 think counterintuitively If you think most people seem to be headed in one direction, then try to do the opposite of the crowds. The problem with Cedar Point is that it gets so packed busy. Unlike KI, I feel like they have a bunch of low capacity rides that you have to wait for, even with fast pass. At KI, more rides seem to only be a station wait with the pass. I can often go to Kennywood without needing or even wanting their Quick Que because its not bad most days. Only during Phantom Fright or events like that does the park just get slammed. For Cedar Point to scale back on things like shows and family friendly events, its going to result in even more lengthy rides. The park needs to immediately install 4-5 new flats just for the extra capacity, and to offer new good flats.

I am going the day after memorial day for three days. Figured it should be pretty dead since kids still in school and people went during memorial day weekend including monday. I am so excited! I usually go each year since I moved to pittsburgh from california. I missed only two years last year and the one during covid. I also never attend any shows. Do not care for those at all but I do see what you mean about crowd control. Do you think they removed that snake river ex. to make room for a new coaster in 2026 back in that area?

I would much rather go to Knobels! Free admission, free parking, good inexpensive food ......or pack a picnic lunch and bring your own. I always make it a two day trip with Hershey park. Don't get me wrong. I love Cedar Point but if I have to spend two days at Cedar Point to get through the lines to ride everything I'd rather combine two parks elsewhere like Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion or Kings Island and Holiday World. I also spend a week in Tampa every year and spend a couple days at Busch Gardens. If you go a week or two after Halloween they are decorated for Christmas and the rides are practically a walk on. Last year I rode Iron Gwazi 10 times in one day along with every other ride in the park! Also you can usually buy a yearly pass before the holidays which gives you the rest of that year and the following year to ride. Well worth it even if you only use the pass 4 times!

Um...some thoughts... First, I think that some of the things they did in 2020 WERE, paying homage to it's past.. Maybe thats WHY (?), they are in 2024 (saying): Can we move on now?? I DO though think they should have kept Snake River.. At the same time though, as someone who has been going there since (true) 1969 (!), I was VERY impressed with the investment and determination they showed, with the quality of the 150 parade and show in 2020, so MUCH so, that I was a little saddened by the fact that there were so many people who (because of covid) did not come, and did not see this GIANT surprise from a park that never did it before - BIG KUDOS! All that aside, your observation on crowd and a cash-cow year was something I was ALSO telling people - Last Year... I was like: Vengeance, Boardwalk, additions from 2020, parade and show, and NOW - TT2... I was like OMG.. BUT, you're also hitting an important thing: a shrinking feeling of history, tradition, the regional feeling of "this is the park I grew up in".. leaving a hint of awkwardness (to some) some change that may take a minute.. but again, maybe they think they already addressed this.. Footnote: When yiu go on GateKeeper now, and you exit exit through the gift shop, you no longer see the Disaster Transport T-Shirts for sale, like in 2020. I still love CP for the things left in my head over the last 55 (!) years, and I WILL BE on TT2. Jeff in Detroit.

That almost makes it worse. If it was like “FINE… we’ll give you what you miss and then PLEASE just SHUT UP about it after that” Then Cedar Point knows what fans want and just, straight up, doesn’t care. Which tells me that they DELIBERATELY took the air out of snake river expedition.

Also creating the new parade, show, and 4 new eateries for the 150 anniversary, and opening 2-3 new places to stay when you are in the area... And NOW , the most talked about attraction for the last 4 years, has FINALLY solved a big problem: NO MORE, will you wait 2 hours for a 17 second ride... For THAT ALONE, no one can shake a stick .. @Thuggysmurf
@Thuggysmurf 3 ай бұрын
It's still the best amusement park in America (not best run, that is Kings Island). All your arguments are correct, but look at the competition. Cedar Point doesn't have Turkey Leg brawls, shootings in the parking lot, fight circles, my kids aren't going to hear the n-word 50 times in 15 minutes while waiting in line, etc. It feels safe for children in the park and walking back to Hotel Breakers. Management can make all the mistakes you've identified + more, and it's still one of the best places to visit with a family.
