The other thing you could check Alex, is the little hole by the fuel pipe, that needs to be cleaned out, or it will clog up, this is for air to mix with the fuel, this will cause white smoke.
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
I did try and check that hole and I think it was clear but I might need to take the heater out to get access to properly be sure 🤔

Reminder, check terminal voltage at the heater when running. Also a tip when you get it running run at full power to reduce shooting up.
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
Going to try running a separate supply straight to the battery 👍
@stug93042 жыл бұрын
@@ttxela good move the glow plugs take initially 5A to 8 amps to get to correct temp, Best way to prove this is to get a mete on the heater and watch the voltage drop. maintain good connections and cable that can carry 16A to reduce volt drop. It will not vaporise and ignite if it can't glow red hot.
@pederb822 жыл бұрын
It’s important that you don’t just run these for 10-15 minute at a time. You must always let them get up to full running temperature and leave it a bit at that so it can burn off the build up of sooth during startup. Each time you don’t do this it gets more clogged. :) Also check that you don’t have too small diameter cables from your battery to the connector of the heater. It draws quite a lot of power during startup (glow plug) and you know more amps means lower voltage on a too small cable. :)

I think adding a dedicated feed from the leisure battery is the next thing to try 🤔
@branchsnapper22282 жыл бұрын
The heaters need around 14volts to get running then they drop to needing less when they are running. I find that the battery needs to be tip top to get the heater running
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
I'm going to try running a supply direct from the leisure battery 👍

Not sure that's correct with 14V. I will check tomorrow in my workshop. I have one connected to a car battery. Will also do a video on it. George

Great video Alex. Not had that problem myself so not sure how to fix. I do know that they clog up if not switched on correctly. Over priming. Not letting it fully shut down on it's own fully. Priming is only nescerray when new or runs out of fuel etc. But I run mine in the motorhome on Paraffin or Kerosene. Garage/workshop on Diesel. Recently yesterday have Part Diesel Part Paraffin in our motorhome by mistake. It does run slightly smokey. Looking at other KZbinrs videos on the subject it looks as if a complete dismantle and decarbon. Ps mine is a 2kw/3kw small heater and has to run hard to give us heat. Cheers from George
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
Yes, maybe a complete strip down is in order, I'll try a dedicated feed from the battery first as I think it needs that anyway 🤔

Noticed that a lot of the older vans have had heater replaced with Chinese ones. Was wondering if there's a common favourite model in case I have to do the same. Great KZbin channel btw👍
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you're enjoying the channel 🙂 I think most of the Chinese heaters are very similar. I'd hesitate to recommend the one I bought since we're having these problems though - albeit they are probably down to the way we were running it 🤔

them gaskets you have there are for the 2kw heater . does not fit a 5kw heater , but heater plugs are all the same

I would also say the controller you’ve got is a lot of the problem I have the same controller and it caused my diesel heater to completely clogged up I bought a more advanced controller where I can adjust the pump rate the mixture needs to be weakened off, or to be made more lean to prevent a rich mixture that will block your heater very quickly

The heater was impressively sooted up!

Hi Alex. Sounds from the comments etc that you are on to a possible fix (the thicker cables). I'll follow this with interest as I'm just about to install my heater. Can I ask what thickness you were using up to now?
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
For the original install I connected into the supply from the leisure battery to the Zig unit. Not sure what size wire it was but I'm going to try a dedicated feed in 6mm2 which is definitely thicker.
@clearprop2 жыл бұрын
@@ttxela Ah OK. Fingers crossed for the 6mm. Should be far beefier for the startup current. Looking forward to the verdict! 👍
@RickandHeather2 жыл бұрын
You gotta sort that leisure set up mate, get a charger wired in permanently so if on hook up it’s just charging (I had a c-tek in my old van) I’d also get a decent split charge relay wired in… that said it does look like a fuelling issue and I’m not sure voltage drop makes it over fuel?
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
I think a direct feed from the battery is next. The electrics do need tidying up a bit for sure!

Alex since my recent illness, my wife also uses the term :the little stumpy one, any ideas what she maybe referring too? Man you sure do have some unfortunate issues with the Quest and its falling off, breaking down parts. That heater is not so old and I'd be sure not too much use to it. I was thinking the same to yourself. Taking out the gas and replacing with a diesel heat. I'll wait a little longer. Good luck with the fix. Stil trying to figure out this stumpy think. Enjoy the travels and stay safe.

🤣 oh dear, poor old stubby 🤣 I think a dedicated feed to the battery is next. We'll get there 🙂
@MrXyklone2 жыл бұрын
I think you'll find that due to the current draw on startup the voltage on your leisure battery drops below the safety threshold set (12.2volt). The leisure battery is getting close to replacement. Try hooking up a good 20amp 12v power supply and then start up the heater again. If it runs, there's the answer, your leisure battery is not in good enough shape to start the heater.
@ttxela2 жыл бұрын
Leisure battery is pretty new and seems in good shape 🤔 I'll try adding a dedicated cable straight to it.
@MrXyklone2 жыл бұрын
In that case, anything that causes resistance will drop the available voltage. Thicker 6mm cable (PV cable will do it) direct to battery. Short a run as possible.

You were lucky to get a glow plug in one piece. I bought a heater from a Chinese eBay site used it 3 times got through only four liters of diesel. then E03 error failed glow plug. Spent a couple of weeks messaging with the eBay seller in China. They assured me that a new glow plug would fix it. So I said ok send it. So after waiting another 10 days to get it a large crushed yellow DHL cardboard envelope arrived at the automatic box. Went home opened it and of course the glow plug was broken into two pieces. Luckily I have ordered at the same time a glow plug from a different supplier just in case and that should come soon. Now the heater supplier started to reply to me only in German. I talked to eBay and they are no help at all. They say the guarantee is two days over and they can do nothing. So not really sure what to do? Learn German I guess? Einen schönen Tag noch. Auf Wiedersehen :) P.S. Why are the Chinese speaking German to me?
