I haven't seen a single F&F film since the original and I have no reason to doubt that they're probably evoking it here, at least with this trailer, but I'll tell you the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the first trailer a couple of months ago now (FYI - this is the second trailer): French Connection II. And I'm positive if you asked Gudegast what his main influence was with this one he'd say it was that. Whether he'd honest with his answer is a different topic, but I'm positive that this will be his "official" answer during the press tour.

Im nervous, but still excited. It could be a well shot, overall well done action flick that's super entertaining. But the first movie did have some level of sophisticated heist hijinks to it. I hope this isnt just dumb action for dumb action sake and there's still thought into the plan

What they need for the 3rd one is an ensemble cast on the level of Butler. A cast of actors that are always fun and always up for this brand of classic cinema. I expect a big picture draft! ❤

About 4 mins in, CR makes a great point about it just being another film with the Den of Thieves IP slapped on it. I think that's just how studios have to go about movies now to make money. It costs so much now to make something of any actual quality, and the easiest way to get us in front of screens is giving us a story, world, and characters we know.

My guess is that Big Nick double-crosses Donnie in Den of Thieves 2. I’m nervous they’ll make it overly unrealistic. The first movie was great because it was simple and, to some extent, believable-similar to The Town and Heat. If they turn the characters into something out of The Avengers, it’ll be a complete fail. This concern applies to Heat 2 as well.
