If Pecco doesn’t triumph after Barcelona… ….Ducati have chosen sporting integrity over any PR benefits they could have gained by Pecco winning the title. As more of an outsider/newer fan to the sport, none of what Ducati has done this year could be considered unsporting or reflect badly on their reputation. Martin winning the championship on a "satellite bike" is simply a masterpiece with which Ducati writes history more than they would otherwise. To have the number 1 on the bike is certainly a nice pr tool, but imo not nearly as much of a deal as you make it look like. Look at how Yamaha used to play games first with Tech 3, then with Petronas. Look what that got them in the end, no satellite team for a few years, no extra rider data, a huge disadvantage and utter humiliation at the hands of Ducati/Aprilia/KTM. The PR 'blow' of Martin winning for Ducati is negligible compared the PR disaster of being seen to rig the championship. That kind of thing would follow Ducati and Bagnaia around for years. It's the kind of thing sponsors and satelite teams especially would remember, nobody wants to spend millions on a team that isn't allowed to succeed (see Yamaha again).

You could argue that Ducati actually gets a double benefit from playing it fair and square. Firstly there's the PR from being decent but secondly going into next season they can legitimately have no pecking order between Marc and Peco as without being the reigning champion Pecos position and leverage is severely weakened. They will also in all likelihood take the title back next season

Surprisingly poor take on the situation by the 'experts'. And the comments are far more nuanced and well informed. The #1 plate going away is hardly a disaster when next year Martin will be running mid-pack and potentially getting embarrassed by Ducati-riding rookies. Plus as a commentator said, it wasn't Pecco v Jorge, it was Jorge v Marc. And no matter how fast Martin is over a lap, he ain't Marquez over a season, as 2023 and 2024 have amply proved. The PR win of the Ducati being extremely fair is far more positive than the #1 plate on a motorcycle that does't deserve to be called #1.

If Martin wins, Ducati and Bagnaia will look really foolish. Sure, the title will still be won on a Ducati bike (which is all what Ducati needs), but here's where the cold, harsh truth comes in - Jorge Martin will leave for Aprilia (who would move heaven and earth to convince Martin to switch to the No. 1 plate) and the team he is currently riding for (Pramac) will end its 2 decade association with the Bologna manufacturer after they decided to cut the number of 2025 factory bikes from 4 to 3 and gave the extra 2025-spec to the VR46 team (I'd also like to know how Gresini feel about this). As for Bagnaia - this loss will look even worse if he gets beaten by Marquez in '25. MM93 was occasionally spanking Pecco while being on the older GP23 (he has more points than the other GP23 riders combined) and if he bests Pecco in an equal machinery the following year people will say that had Marquez had the GP24 from day one, he would've won the 2024 title mid-season. With 24 point gap between them it will be a tall order for Ducati to influence the results in Pecco's favour. There's absolutely no way other manufacturers will be willing to help them, so this means that Ducati will need to rely only on their own riders and out of all only Marquez has been able to be consistently on par with both Pecco and Martin. Also, Bastianini has no incentive to help Pecco or Ducati Lenovo as well since he's leaving the manufacturer too anyway (the same goes for Bezzecchi, who happens to be Martin's future teammate)

Having won the title is probably much more important to them than not having the #1 plate next year. Also there is no real benefit in sabotaging Martin. This would make their satellite teams present and future distrusting. In exchange for what? Imho they are doing the right thing by just letting the championship play out as it is. It will go down in the history books as a Ducati championship and there is no reason to ruffle the feathers.

We all know Martin and Marquez are the best riders on the grid right now. The reason why Martin lost out is because Marquez is an even better rider than Martin and he is better for PR and Marquez would have quit MotoGP had he not gotten a competitive bike. So Martin and Marquez should be at the factory Ducati if it was all about skill. Ducati should have chosen Martin over Pecco but of course Pecco stayed because he was leading the championship at that point going on what would have been his third, and Ducati looooves having Italian riders at their factory team. It sucks for Martin but at least he beat Pecco this year and he is still young and he’ll find his way back to the top.

But I don't think jumping from GP19 into GP21 isn't an easy job and yet he delivered a great result on his first time racing with Gresini. Taking 4th wins of the season.
