Beyond troubling. Just like much of Europe, few practice their faith. I'm Irish-American and have family relations all across Ireland and have been to the Marian Shrine at Knock. The family over there attends Easter Mass with us I think simply to be polite. There are seeds growing. HS will take care of this. We respect all priests but don't be fooled, there are wolves inside the tent no doubt. There are many attacks against our faith but now they're coming from within. Our Lady of Knock, pray for us.

I'm Irish, living in London. When I go back to Ireland the church seems so lacking in reverence and has generally run out of steam. I wanted communion on the tongue in November but was refused. Priests are not allowed to make assumptions about the condition of a person's heart...unless the person openly professes their heart is turned from God or the Magisterium. And the document is about irregular couples, not just hom0sexuals. So let's say a couple (both Catholics) who remarried after divorce (outside the Church) and now have kids both want to return to the Church. This would require them to become non-romantic partners...celibate. They WILL need grace to do this. Are you saying they should be refused a blessing because couples do not get together other than to have s3x? Do you believe that Love cannot exist without s3x? Technically, this would mean that no Catholic marriage could be blessed because we don't know if they are in mortal sin due to the use of birth control (which most are). We could be "blessing a sin filled marriage". If you are saying that you can judge all couple's situations based on nothing more than what you "feel" is their internal life, that makes you hubristic...that's mortal sin. If the priest is specifically asked to bless their union (one "thing"), he MUST refuse. But if asked to bless the couple (2 people. A couple is not one thing) he is allowed to do so (at his discretion) as long as it does not appear to be a blessing of a union. So no photo ops. Nothing during Mass. Not in Church. Basically private. Dispensation of Grace is not reserved for who "we" think deserve it...who "we" belive to have the right motivation. That's for God through the priesthood. And if he knowingly blesses the union not the people seeking God's grace (power), that's automatic self-excommunication.

Are you kidding? As an American Catholic I'm horrified at what our Church in America has become. Our diocese has almost no priests and very few seminarians. They have closed many of our churches. Most priests don't actually teach the gospels but just give a little "feel good" homily so the Catholics that still do go to Church won't get offended by hearing the Truth and leave. A great many Catholics that I know don't believe in the true presence of Christ in Holy Eucharist. (Probably because so few priests teach about it) Catholicism is no better here than anywhere else.

The fact that James Martin has been invited to Ireland and Knock by the Bishops here proves that the faith in the Hiearchy of The Church here and laity is practically gone. I couldn't think of anyone worse to invite here except maybe Cardinal Fernandez, Cardinal Burke and afew other prelates from Rome. Mark, it makes me sad. I am of Irish descent, and my dad 100% Irish descent. I have always felt a connection to the Mother Land. My faith came from him. It’s bad enough to have Irish born make fun of Americans who call themselves Irish, but now they often make fun if you’re a believer. We’ll have to trust that it’s in God’s hands. The situation in Ireland is not unlike that elsewhere as regards the Catholic Faith. It has been depressing to see the Church in Ireland cave in a mere sixty years whereas in other places it took revolutions to do serious damage. One can identify the cause of the Church's decline in Ireland and it is the same cause that has wreaked such damage in the universal Church, I refer of course to the Second Vatican Catastrophe! While the last Council taught nothing contrary to what had been previously taught by the Church up until that time the impression was given that it did. Instead of strengthening the bulwarks there was a universal call to "raze the bastions" by those who later came to interpret the ambiguous language of the conciliar documents. The first visible changes were to the liturgy of the Church and that has always been the modus operandi of those who wish to change the Church's teaching. Sixty years of praying a protestantised liturgy has led to Catholics disbelieving in the reality of the Eucharistic presence of Christ and has led on to other errors. As the actions of the present pontiff demonstrate so accurately all you need to do is change the practice and that will lead people to believe that the doctrine has changed. As far as Fr. James Martin trip to Knock goes I find it amusing to think that his presence is a clear indication that the Bishops wish to signal to the Roman authorities that they really are on board with the revolution, despite the ecclesial reality you pointed to that the Church is dying in terms of vocations and faithful. Contrast his fulsome welcome with that of the last time I went on pilgrimage there as we were chased off the premises by security and had to kneel for Mass celebrated in a cafe car park. We were traditional Catholics and the Mass was that of the Irish and English Martyrs! The only reason Fr. Martin is there is in order for the Irish bishops to burnish their Vatican credentials. As far as the Faith in Ireland is concerned it doesn't amount to a hill of beans!

Im irish living in UK. What shocked me about Ireland was the speed at which Ireland threw away it's heritage. Just like in the story of Jacob and Esau in the Bible where Esau the older brother of Jacob threw away his heritage. Everytime i went over there in the past 20 years, i noticed that the media had a relentless campaign against the faith, its now to the point where they will openly mock anyone been interviewed if they as much as mention their faith. And finally i will say, most Irish people have totally failed to notice the growth in free masonary and it's ideas openly promoted in the media, particularly since an ex governor of the BBC got the job a few years back of heading RTE. Also many British people got top jobs in the civil institutions of Ireland when these same institutions grew in number and remits during the 90s economic booms. Such leaders are often interviewed in the media for their opinions and clarifications on Issues. I noticed how they were all British. Living in Scotland for many years, i have become accutely aware of the subtletys of masonic discourses. There has always been, since Irish independence over a hundred years ago, a hidden subtle but malignant masonic/Episcopalian influence in Irish Government and civil service. This paraded in the 80s with the then Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald. Thankfully i had parents who were acutely aware of these influences as my ancestors fought for independence and they educated us well in these matters when i was a young child in the 80s.

We've been the victim of a phsyop, this was long planned. The takeover of the church by the freemason's has almost succeeded, I have personal experience and witnessed a freemasonic ritual taking place in the sacristy of the church when I was an altar boy in the late seventies. The pp and one of the priests in the parish were playing a subservient role to prominent local figures. Myself and another altar boy had sneaked in to get out of the rain. The problem is not necessarily one of lack of faith but rather that the Irish people no longer accept the organisation of the Irish Catholic Church as a respectable organisation. Hardly surprising because it was firstly exercising political power and then engaged in sexual practices. Whereas in the 1980s the church still could dictate to politicians that they could not legalise divorce, abortion or family planning, the revulsion of people at the sex abuse scandals where the church protected the rapist priests and attacked their victims meant that the people no longer listen to priests.

Many are called but few are chosen. It was always about keeping the masses under control. The system has the internet now and so they don’t need church to keep control anymore . The Catholic Church in Ireland were in everything except the Crib since the 1800s. Always answering to the system. Always watching the masses and reporting back. Faith is a personal thing between you and God.

Pray for priest in Ireland that they may find their faith back. I living in Ireland and I am Catholic and see that even in my church some priest are becoming worldly. And indeed the old generation hold the church up. But no young people in the church. But we should not be discouraged. The church will revive. But we read in the book of Revelation that this would happen. Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better.

The church abuse of children and women cannot be underrated in the loss of faith. The religious who perpetrated the abuse have not only not been removed, they have been promoted! The religious preaching against the abomination of the church’s heresies are being removed. How can laymen trust or obey the church’s or the scriptures authority when religious (especially the pope) do not. I don’t think education is going to make a difference.

I think it's important to remember what makes something 'good'... For an act to be morally good, all three aspects-object, intention, and circumstances-must be good. If any of these components is morally bad, the whole act is considered morally wrong. This undermines the statement that "Love is Love"...

I think Ireland will remain at heart spiritual but less adherent to formal religion as was the case . I think all for the better where it must be said in retrospect the omnipresence and influence of the RC in Ireland was stultifying . In the old days Ireland exported hundreds priests and nuns to the rest of the world. Most were holy people. However there were a lot of problems too. Strange how most of the paedophile priests in the rest of the world have Irish names. Irish nuns were also notoriously violent and sometimes engaged in sexual abuse in Catholic schools. The Irish appear to swing from one extreme to the other. Apart from their role in saving Christianity and spreading it to Britain and Europe in the Dark Ages, the Irish in recent centuries have had a huge influence on the way Catholicism operates in the rest of the world. It is sad to see what is happening in Ireland.

This is a strange and very ignorant comment. I can only assume you did not watch the video. I didn't imply he was not in full communion - I explain that the positions he espouses are in direct contradiction to Church teaching - the example I show is his promotion of Protestant eisegetes to promote a different Gospel. I am questioning why the Irish bishops want to consult with a notorious and controversial individual.
