Hanging from a bar for back pain relief makes sense but I think is often abused. You can definitely hang from a pull-up bar to help decompress the spine but the question is HOW are you doing it?
The idea of decompressing the spine for relief works but we need more context and history on an individual before we get them hanging from a bar.

In today's video, we talk about whether or not you should be hanging from a bar for back pain relief This goes for people with a herniated disc, bulging disc, or complete rupture. We also talk about some big mistakes people make when using dead hangs as a means of spinal decompression along with the best way to use a pull-up bar hang for potential relief from back pain.

I’ll try this👌 I was hanging today after back day for the first time cause I heard that it could help. I just did it where I dangled my feet and my lower back did not like that whatsoever, felt like my spine was about to come apart

I was at work at a wearhouse and I drive a forklift. There is a bar on the back. Some of the things I do there kinda requires me to use my back to lift. So, I recall hanging from the bar one day much like that. I felt the most satisfying relief ever, accompanied with a satisfying pop. It works, trust me.

I got a pull up bar almost a month ago on a whim bc I’ve had back, shoulder and neck pain for so long and have done everything to get relief and I wanted to increase my strength overall. Adding that in has really helped. Just came across your video and really cool to see that my mind was on the right track. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for providing this video. I have severe herniation at l5s1 also. And the facet joints on that left side also have some issues based from my most current MRI. The last 3 MRIs have consistently shown the same issues at L5S1 and also L4L5. Additionally, I'm not sure if you're aware of this condition but I also have pudendal neuralgia. Which is basically pelvic neuropathy. Again I appreciate the video it's the first of any of your work that I have seen. So I will be subscribing and following you on Instagram.

I think the spasms are due to muscle guarding so i like that you mentioned getting the mind-body connection. Train your brain that its safe to decompress and not a threat for it to go Into guarding/protect mode

Hanging or any other activities won't cure back pain unless you stop doing the activities that led to the back pain. Rest is the key. Hanging will help, but it won't do much change if it's not accompanied with the right cure plan.

always see a doctor and get it checked out if you have back issues. you can develop permanent nerve damage from the disc pressing on the nerve if you don't get surgery if it's bad enough.

Hey man, thanks for the video. I have no back problems, but I'm always adding decompression stretches & hanging after my weights workout to take care of my back. I hang on a pull up bar with feet on the ground and tilting pelvis forward, so my back doesn't extend. Is it ok or feet on the bench is the only way to decompress?

I bought a harness, i totally recommend it, i feel the pull in my lower back more strong and feels nicer than in my inversion table, where the pull is felt more in the ankles. knees, hips. Besides you dont have to hang up side down. Btw, the nameof the harness is sit and decompress.

Do you think this type of decompression even holds value if you are still lifting weights pretty intensely? I feel like how do you actually negate the compression that is happening during your workouts. I feel like it's a very temporary fix. Like minutes. What do you think?
@Fitness4BackPain
@Fitness4BackPain 2 жыл бұрын
It is temporary but from a herniation perspective if you’re following a good strength plan it should help reverse the herniation and lower symptoms while you build resilience in the tissue.

I always finish with sets of chins or pull downs regardless of the body part day for decompression. It works. And cracks or releases my back. Also, just cracking your back against a low chin bar or such, brings total relief for hours and feels almost euphoric. Is what a chiropractor charges for and calls an adjustment.

If the lower back pain is being caused by a disc bulge (nerve being impinged), how is strengthening the core going to take away the pain? I would think your only option for relief would be either decompression in hope that the disc will come off the nerve, or surgery.
