The Super NES, as well as some other systems, were made with plastic containing flame-retardant chemicals to meet safety guidelines. Over time, the plastic aged and discolored both because of these chemicals as well as from the normal heat generated from the product or exposure to light. If you look it up on KZbin, you can see people actually reversing the yellowing with UV lights.

If only that man had a grandson, or even a son who is a gamer that grew up in the SNES era. He would have known just from Super Castlevania IV and Starfox alone, those two is an SNES classic and is worth quite a pretty penny. If that man had walked in A Link to The Past. Final Fantasy III. All three Donky Kong Country. He would have had a treasure trove collection on his hands and would have been worth more than $300 in its pristine conditions. If its Unopened Box. That is double/triple the value of everything he got for a measly $300. Alas, seems like the man didn't care one way or the other what he had in his collection. I watched a video years ago, where some guy did some serious research into the manufacturing sources of old video game systems to find out why they yellowed inconsistently. Some never yellowed, some completely yellowed, and many just had certain parts that yellowed. He discovered that different sources were used for different parts of the casing, and it wasn't always the same source for the same part. So, due to whatever was put into the plastic at different plants would determine whether the part yellowed or not. I was lucky to have a SNES that all parts came from the right plants, and stayed completely grey.

I remember buying a few of those SNES games new in those days. Today have the entire North American SNES game release on my smart phone using a look alike SNES Bluetooth controller. Man times have changed, but it felt better to scrimp and save to purchase them than just downloading. Takes all the fun out, but nostalgia sells!

Sure, but you can't beat the convenience of just being able to pop into any SNES game you want at any moment instantly without having to worry about cartridge contacts etc. - also saves wear on your original cartridges if you are a collector (I certainly am not, certainly not in ludicrously inflated "retro" gaming market we have today)

Super Castlevania IV alone in the box is $180 to $200, One just sold for $300 days before you posted this video. Where did you get $80? Alien 3 is $50, Top Gear is$45. Just those 3 games alone already puts you at $300. Those prices you were quoting sounded closer to cartridge only prices. Prices double and triple when you add the box and manual, and the nicer the box the more it can go up.

Hey I’m actually going through my old game systems and sprucing them up to sell to someone local, but that plastic on the SNES yellows because of a flame retardant process the plastic goes through. Some had just the bottoms or tops discolor. In some cases the whole thing. You can take it apart and use line a pan with foil and hydrogen peroxide and a UV light will fix the discoloration.

Star Fox alone was worth at least $200 for the condition it was in. Castlevania is well over $500 cib and given the condition is near mint its likely worth more.

The fact you gave the guy double what he wanted is totally amazing!!! Most people would be like yeah I’d rather do like 100 so meet in the middle at 125. And the guy probably take it or maybe 140 but to offer him double his asking price is really honest as it’s not very often seen so fair play. Especially as now you may have to sit on them or pay shipping costs plus all your out goings on a store. So I’d just like to say Fair Play Mate!!! If everyone was a little more like this the world would go round a little easier!!

Man I found you a couple days ago, and I love antiques and it is cool seeing all the things you have coming in. I want to tell you how much I respect the business you do, I have had to use a pawn store about three times after I was hurt and laid off work for over a year and my wife had to cut down on her work hours on top of me making half my normal pay we hit a few rough times. I went to the nearest pawn shop because I had crushed my right leg and was in a complete cast for almost a year and a half and so I had to drive myself because I didn't want my wife to know we were getting so tight on money that I had to pawn and sell some things. I walked in there and immediately was treated like I was a scum bag drug addict regardless of my leg being in a complete cast. It was so demeaning walking in there because of how they made me feel. They wouldn't give anything close to what was right, and just made feem worthless needing a little help through that rough time. You all seem friendly, non judgemental, and kind. Not everyone is like you all.
