Trapper RE: The choke butterfly not closing completely. I have been told the choke not closing completely is an EPA issue. They are required to design the choke not to choke completely because of the raw gas that isn't burned completely. This is normally Ok during normal operation temperatures but when the temperature goes down you may need a full choke. Also if you look closely the choke butterfly has one hole thru it which doesn't help during below normal cold starts.

instead of having wiring circuits that go through the different safety's to either kill the engine or keep it from starting John deere had the brilliant idea to use a brain box to control cutting off or not starting. the key turning off sends signal to this brain box and it shuts off engine. these are prone to failing.

Bagger frame should have a pin to insert into hole where the tow ball is inserted. In other words, the factory design is to use either the bagger or tow ball. The prior owner made the plate to weld the bagger frame to so they could also use the tow ball. I would recommend going back to factory approach as the bagger frame is super easy to install and remove that way.

Thanks for your video. Two things I need to put an idea about. The delay you experienced on oneside of the coil MIGHThave been going thru the condenser. When you check a capacitor, the meter battery charger itand you watch the analog meter slowly bleed back off. If it charges up and falls right off, the capacitor is bad. Another item, if you will put a 2x 10 on the concrete floor, to set your battery on, the concrete won't bleed the battery down. We had rubber mat stapled to 2x10's a tad longer than the battery was.( Battery shop.) for Locomotives. USE White-out pen to label wires, hoses, key-mark edges before taking them apart. match to go back together easier. Love your content.

My wife discovered the Brinly Lawn Sweeper in the early 2000’s. Leaves fill up quickly, and take up room quickly too because they don’t get crunched up, but it’s a lot quicker than using a Toro or Ryobi vacuum. It dumps quite easily. It will not immediately collect grass that you’ve cut because the mower moves the grass to the side, so the only disadvantage is you have to make another pass of the yard to pick up the grass. The gears in the wheels wear out about every 4 months, but they sell the parts and they’re easy to replace. The brushes will sometimes come loose, so I used a few sheet metal screws to fasten them.

Mustie1 as far as the throttle blade opening, you would be surprised. I visited Kenny Bernstein's shop yrs ago and our automotive instructor asked how much power it made where the throttle blades were open, the crew chief opened the throttle blade roughly about 30% and said it makes around 2000hp at this throttle position and the same amount at wide open throttle. We were all stunned when he said that. I'm sure someone else could chime in on that. But as for my personal experience in the engine dyno room yrs ago as well. It's funny to see a 500+ hp engine put out 5-8 hp at idle. It's always the little things you never think about. Great vids as always

The throttle stop keeping the butterfly from opening all the way is actually exactly what you mentioned. They'll have a v-twin at a given displacement say up to 30 HP. They'll sell a 22, 25, 27, etc that are all exactly the same except the throttle stop. Saves on manufacturing costs vs having actual different engine platforms and models. Grind that stop down or buy a replacement shaft from the higher HP version and you've got basically free HP.

Damn! It took me 4 attempt to watch it all! sunday was so busy that I could not watch the whole video at all!.. BTW i disable my ad blocker when I watch mustie video's. and a few others creator I watch. He is about the only guys that dont ask us to do something. So I try to help him. He do what other dont, putting himself in real situation and try to fix old stuff. Showing us his taught pattern on how to resolve such problem. others are not always as open on how they think about the problems they have and many times we see a solution with out actualy seeing how it was created. Again, thanks for your time showing use mere mortals how you do things .

I believe if you found a time machine in the trash, you’d say “I’ve never seen one of these before, cool!” Then proceed to tear it down, figure it out and get it running, all the while teaching us how to make our own... awesome!

The fuel shut off is at the front bottom of the carb if that is what you were referring to. Hold your finger on it and turn ignition ON. You should hear and feel a Click. I have an X320. Kawasaki 22 HP. These are $5-6,000 Mowers. Plus Bagger! Actually built by John Deere. X- model is the key to that. Totally different Deck support and it does a fantastic job on rough lawns. Blow back the fuel into the tank. Loosen but do not remove cap. Woirked for me. I needlessly put on a new Fuel Pump. Those damn carb screws sometimes need a Vise Grips to remove them. Had similar carb today on Cub Cadet. Love that Shake and Break tool. There is a trick to belt removal with that gold anodized arm that releases tension. Manual can be downloaded. Mine has a similar spring loaded choke. 1/2 throttle, crank, push up Choke for a second or so til it fires. Mine floods very easily, and also does not shut off instantly much like yours. I think the lack of Fuel shuts it off. Check for tiny holes in those 2 Emulsion tubes. 10 psi Front, 12-15 rear. Deck height is uneven, left side is lower and not matched for height. 1 hole out. Simply make a 4" extension for the Ball hitch. From a Farm Supply store, get a serious Spinner. The John Deere ones do not fit the oval steering wheel rim. That one is a keeper Mustie. Sunflowers are ready.............

I let my brother borrow my riding mower for the weekend. I told him when he brings it back, to shut the fuel off and let it die when you park it in the shed. He never shut the key off and it sat for a week with the hour meter running. He took it with 240 hours on it. When I went to use it the next weekend, the battery was dead and it had 360 hours on it. Haha

My wife has a cub cadet and I have a craftsman lt1000. On my wife's cub cadet any time the key is on the headlights are on so when SHE shuts off the fuel and leaves the key on and walks away then I come out the next day to a dead battery.

I got one last year from a guy who always put a battery tender on it and he constantly was forgetting to shut the key off it had over a 1000 hours on it. When I sold it the asked if it really had a 1000 hours on it I said no it didn't, how do you know? He asked. Because it still runs. If by some chance it did still run with 1000 hours it would be blowing smoke like a freight train. (we did the math to figure out the true hours 1/2 hour to mow his lawn 40 times a year for 7 years about 140 hours give or take 50

The self cancaling choke is to prevent people running the machine for extended periods of time with the choke on resulting in excess air pollution and wasted fuel.
