Top effort, couldn’t hear the grinding noise from the clutch clearly but could be a worn clutch bearing, had one that sounded like this once, driving in the 80’s was a learning curve😆. If you have a new clutch cable , I would certainly fit it . I remember from my Viva days that after a certain amount of use , the inner cable strands used to start to break ( and also snag on the outer ), this caused a lot of " lost motion" ie , pedal movement not all being transferred to the clutch arm. This gave the mechanical equivalent of air in a hydraulic clutch , making accurate adjustments impossible. Fitting a new cable used to transform the clutch action!!

Wow! What a bloody improvement that Zenith Carb was! As soon as you fired that up for the first time the engine had that...well...not a growl exactly (it's a Viva after all) but definitely a difference in the engine note when you revved it that said that it was much happier! Nice one Steve, can't wait to see what a difference the Weber carb will make... looking forward to the next video as always 👍

Alright mate 🤘 what a difference the zenith made!! Not sure what's going on with clutch 🤔 reverse hasn't got a syncro, so you could try selecting a forward gear to slow the gears first, then select reverse without lifting ya foot off the clutch. See if that helps with the crunching 👍

I would deffo pull the gearbox out mate and check the clutch. The bouncing could be a pressure plate problem or possibly even some oil leakage contaminating the friction material. Adjusting the cable is only adjusting the point at which it kangaroos. If you have the funds, replace the pressure plate and clutch plate and check for oil leaks from the gearbox and engine while your in there.

Ethnol fuel goes flat pretty quick.(3 months.) Maybe try a fuel booster in the tank. See what happens. Or Drain your old fuel and put some fresh. Still could be sucking air on inlet manifold gasket. Try fresh fuel from a separate tank. Get the recomended spark plugs. Or some twinspark deals. Do a compression check.. good luck.

My viva used to cut out when warm and when cool would start again. I tried everything in the end it was the coil wire going through metal clips at front of the sump. The sharp edges had rubbed through the insulation of the wire and shorting out . When the metal clips expanded and got warm . I rewired it in a shorter way not through the clips with new wire.

Look inside the sidedraft manifold where the carburettor bolts on. They had a tendency to crack the inside of the manifold heat chambers. I’ve seen them with a fine crack and some with a complete hole right through.
@Saaketti
@Saaketti Жыл бұрын
Clutch pressure bearing could be easily end of its life, Clutch pressure plate finns could be worn out because bearing. That zenith is too small carb for the 1256cc. It will work but you'll lose some power. That stromberg intake manifold can easily be burnt through so that the manifold heating exhaust gas leaks to the intake air side and acts as an un controlled egr. It would not be the first one to burn through. Those small holes in the intake manifold gaskets are for the heating channels.

I told ya the engine's GOOD, once you get her ticking over at 850rpm, she will be quiet and sweet as hell. Yeah try the new clutch cable on that. Anyway after the Viva which was my first car, I had a Chevette and put a twin choke Pierburg carb off a MK II Astra 1.3 OHC and got a top speed of well over 90mph in that Chevette, mind you it's a lighter car than the Viva, and then in the early 1990s I got an SRI 130 Cavalier MK II I traveled all over the UK in it, and went to all the rave parties and it NEVER let me down, it was a beast of a car, those were the days🔊🎵🎶had some good times in that Cavalier. As for the bigger engine in the Viva ? you could go for the Opel In Head Cam (IHC) 1.6, 1.9 or 2.0 they were also used in the MK I Cavalier, they are SOLID engines and gearbox's are good. All the best mate and give the Weber a go like you said, and keep on rocking 🛠🔧🪛🔨🔩😃

It COULD be that flat spot is the timing advance mechanic in the dizzy isn’t working properly. Clean & lube the mech & make sure it’s getting the proper vacuum (if vacuum advanced). The flat spot COULD be from a delayed timing advance.

Yes everyone has an opinion, but the most important opinion is yours. I couldn't quite tell, but does it still have that misfire going on under load? How much are weber carbs there, here they are an arm and a leg, both of which are useful if you want to be able to drive... is there maybe a vacuum leak there somewhere. Oh well at least the Strongburg is gone, my father swore by them, well mostly he swore being next to them, and he was a quiet and gentle man, aka the product of going to war.... I look forward to seeing where this goes next, any idea as to where you would like to move to next?

Stromberg carbs suck………air lol 😝, What you need to do is junk that engine and drop in the 1800cc or the 2300 engine and you will really enjoy all of the extra power and speed that it brings, that’s what I done with my Viva E 2 door coupe, mine got the 2300 , twin choke Webber, fast road rally camshaft, 4 branch manifold, Koni adjustable shocks , and chromed the rocker cover, the flywheel pullies and the diff cover then painted everything underneath lovely glossy black, wish I still had her, my mate in work pestered me for months after seeing her and I eventually gave in and sold it to him, 😡 grr lol Niiiiiiiiiiice video 😊 Ps…..she sounds really smooth now after timing her up, good job man.

Shame you are going to swap the engine on an original car, you could have bought a Viva, Magnum or Firenza with the slant 4 in 1800, 2000 or 2300 capacity.

I love the 2.3 slant 4 but the gearbox's were easy to blow out... typical Vauxhall problem. 2.3 HS Chevette with the slant 4 was a beast apart from the gearbox, Love the Magnum though.

I'm not done with he little viva engine yet, Just talking ideas, it's not the original engine to the car, if I can find a bigger viva engine cheap enough I'll buy it 👍
