"Will It Run" is my new favorite video series! I eagerly await each new installment, especially those featuring the 1940's and 1950's vintages. Anyone who can't groove on a 1959 'Scayne is simply bereft of taste and intellect.

Ahh, the memories! In 1968 our 2 family cars were a 1959 Chevrolet Impala and a 1950-something Chevrolet Belair. My favorite was the Impala because it was the Batmobile! At least it was to my 6-year-old self. ;-)

My favorite Chevy ever! The 55-57's are so dull in comparison to the 59's beautiful styling! I'm also partial as I had a black 59 Bel Air four door sedan. It was nothing fancy, 235, 3 on the tree but boy did it ride great and look even better! Love these cars.

Dad had a '59 Biscayne 4 door 6. It must have been around '62. He traded in a 56 DeSoto (had that sweet Semi-Automatic where you manually shifted from first to second then it auto'd to third.) Anyway - I vividly remember him telling me of it before he brought it home. The coolest part .... Twin Antennas on the rear deck!

Wonder if anyone remembers the '77 AMC Pacer D/L [silver and black] that we rescued from South Cooking Lake, southeast of Edmonton over 6 years ago. It's a long-term project and we're hoping to answer the question one day: "Will it run?". Almost all the significant wiring had been cut out of the engine compartment, unbeknownst to us, but it's a rare-optioned car and we're hoping we did the right thing to save it. Tons of money in it so far!

My family owned nothing but Chevy cars when I was a kid, starting with a '52, a '55, a '57, a 58, a 1960 Impala (my personal favorite) a 1962 Nova wagon, a 1963 white with red interior SS Impala that got wrecked 4 days after we bought it (would have been my favorite) a 1965 SS Impala (my moms personal favorite) a 68 Malibu, a 68 Chevy Van, and a 1969 Impala plus more I'm forgetting, I'm sure. I remember those cars with all kinds of fondness, BUT back in the day I actually disliked the 58's and 59's pretty intensely... Those two years HAVE really grown on me over the years, yet I might have a hard time agreeing with you as to 1959 being Chevrolet's finest hour, so many other years, I think, were WAY cooler! Having said that this Scayne is a pretty cool old beasty though! Glad to see you rescued her and post the whole series all at once, very cool, I'm on to watch part 2 now!

Many years ago I bought a straight, rust free running 1959 Chevy SEDAN DELIVERY for $125 US. California car. Bought it in Oxnard California. Put a rebuilt carburetor from Pep Boys for maybe 12 bucks and the 235 6 ran great. A couple of months later I need rent money so I sold her for $150. Did you and your faithful furry sidekick try penetrating oil instead of the sledge? Might have worked, eh. Practicing my Canadian. Friends say I don't know what I'm talking a boot...
@coldwarmotors7 жыл бұрын
Of course. The sledge was more of a last-ditch thing after I had already found the conical fractures in the pistons caused by the immense pressure of the rust squeezing them in the bores. I would never try something like that on an engine I expected to run. Also, the "eh" at the end of a sentence should be followed by a question mark, as its purpose is to make a sentence an interrogative, thus inviting a reply, or implying that the other person may have something to add. As for "aboot", that is primarily an East-coast thing, as i have never heard it. It likely traces its roots to the large Scottish ancestry of the area. Cheers!
@scootergeorge95767 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Wish I still had that 1959 sedan delivery though...
