I had a CZ 175 Trail bike in 1979 when I was a teenager. Heavy sod off road. After going through two pistons I scrapped it. This is bringing back memories. I was 14 when I stripped it down, every last nut and bolt and crankcase split. Re-bored and new piston. A lot of the parts on this look familiar.

I love your posts. I just picked up a Briggs and Stratton self propelled lawnmower left on the street for the scrap man. It had lower bars, spark plug and air filter missing. With in 30 minutes I got it working. Spent £11 for new carb gasket, spark plug and air filter, made my own lower bars out of more street scrap for trampoline frame. I changed the oil, cleaned, sharpen and balance blade and she starts first pull and cut my grass now. The problem was the run and cut off cable had stretched and did not disengage coursing the spark plug to not spark, couple of shims sorted that out :)

Mustie's got the upper hand on these "uTuber's challenges" to see if something will run or not. Mustie's got the mental schematic for motor's so perfected he does it in his sleep. He knows the mental flowchart backwards and forwards - If this occurs, these are the steps to resolution - When I watch I learn where I might find that "kink" from Mustie's reasoning to solve my own practical issue. Thanks again Mustie for letting me live vicariously through your solutions to keep my own property running. The shipping from Dallas, Texas would be outrageous - LOL!

Ignition is switched by pushing the key all the way in. To switch it off, pull the key just a little bit out, but dont pull it all the way, just a few mm - you will feel the spring tension as the key goes out. Thats what the "funky" groove on the key tip does. Turning the key left to right: 0 - lights off, 1 - parking lights, 2 headlight.

Hi Mustie1 ! Well done figuring out the key is ignition on when key is pushed in. Lol That's why the key has this "ball" on the bottom. Position 1 is parking light or what ever you call it, small bulb, position 2 is low beams and then you can change on the left side handle bar switch lo or hi beam. The fancy oiling pump is pain in the but, disable it and mix 2stroke oil with gas ;) All the parts can still be ordered online new. Even the rubber chain guards/guides. Change the plugs too. P. S. The break lever/pedal does not need a puller or magic spray, just wiggle it by the end and hold by shafts end, works every time. Had a Jawa 350 model 638, 1988.. The sound brought back memories of my teenage years way back ;) ENJOY IT!

The minute i saw the key I knew you had to pull out one click to deactivate the circuit. I purchased another Czech vehicle a Tatra 813 some years ago, the truck was a beast 8x8 all wheel drive 19L air cooled V12, it had the key with the bulb on the end. I killed a set of batteries (it was a 24v system) before I realized you had to pull the key out to shut off the power. Many German and some Czech vehicles of that age had those keys, Unimog’s, Magirus, and MAN trucks all seemed to have them. Don’t lose it very hard to find a replacement ! I have been impressed with Czech engineering, after all they did ‘design’ the VW Beetle before Ferdinand Porsche ran off with the design :-)

For anyone who didn’t get his comment, he was making a Star Wars joke as it features characters known as Jawas, who are meter-tall humanoids completely hidden behind rough cloth robes. Now I wouldn’t be surprised if George Lucas had named the Jawa characters after the motorcycle brand, though I haven’t verified that. It seems very plausible though as they were well known motorcycle brand the in the 70’s. As to the original Jawa brand that made the motorcycle shown in the video, it was a Czech (later Czechoslovakian) manufacturer started in 1929 and was at one time (especially in the 1950’s) one of the top motorcycle manufacturers. The also made cars for a period of time too. In 1990, due to the fall of the Soviet Union, the original company saw a major loss of manufacturing and not long after closed down. In 1997 a revived version of the company called Jawa Moto was opened in the Czech Republic. Jawas have a cult following in India and In 2018, a licensing deal allowed for a Indian Manufacturer called Ideal Jawa to make models specifically for the Indian market at an Indian factory.

I had this exact bike in the UK in the late seventies/early eighties. Bloody funny bike. If it backfired when you were starting it, the engine would run backwards. Big shock when you snicked it into gear and dropped the clutch. I remember it was as cheap as dirt but it did have character.
@tlrptg6 жыл бұрын
this type of bike has a typical defect: the seal on the crankshaft, which is located between the cylinders, below, fails. The engine starts producing more smoke from a cylinder, and going lean on the other. The lean cylinder will overheat and fail, killing the whole engine, if this fault is not serviced ASAP. Looks like it's the case here too. You'll need to dismantle the whole engine and crank to fix it.

Dear mustie1: This key's nickname is "Zündnagel" (ignite nail)! Every older Bike, Truck or tractor in Europe including Eastern Europe and in parts of Asia etc.p.p. use these simple keys (or similar types). Put it in and push it down means ignition on normally. First notch (= slight turn) is parking light, 2. notch is driving light. Best regards. P.S. I still want to mail informations about the best sealing material ever and another way to make metal look old than to use shoe polish. But I'm still not able to find your Email address in your utube channel informations as you mentioned (maybe because I only use a smartphone, have no computer?). And, last but not least, I lost a bunch of hair watching you treating Puch name and Bing bad. LOL ;-) I could have helped because nearly all of my former Mofa's/Moped's/Mokick's had Bing carburators. And, of course, there is a simple, common and cheap way to make every type and length of Bowden cables (or is it Bowden wires?) for gas, brakes or clutch at home/by yourself.

there's a lot of cable on that one, with the oil pump system, the cable goes down to the pump first, then up to the carb. he needs a "cable luber" to force cleaner/lube through the cables and make sure the cam wheel on the oil pump moves freely. not all bikes have the same throttle cable layout of course.

I had one of these back when i had hair, it had a sidecar and was orange. One thing i remember was it ate throttle cables which were in two halves due to the oil feeder which i ditched and just premixed. Had lots of fun on her and she went on a couple of Jumbo runs, which was a three wheeler event.

I was actually dozing off when you asked if we are sleeping on the job. That was weird.

Oh that noise so nostalgic, you had me shouting that the screen, the key is on when pushed IN! its a beast of a switch that once on mine pinged apart by the roadside, tiny springs and brass bits all over the place! Yes, the carb has a "tickler" just sinks the flaot and floods it with fuel, making it start or flooding it too much and making it not work at all. Under the side there i see the quaint mechanical electricity control box, its a mini substation in there with coils and contacts that switch the 6volts in and out. complicated but i once made a 12volt engine run a 6-volt bike system with a tweak of a screwdriver, more by luck than judgment. The points are common to cars of the time, a Skoda Estell i think. Isolated from the back plate by an ingenious system of fiber washers they could get weird and stop isolating the sparks. Also the capacitors were apt to go bad or have bad connections. Its a basic bike but once going fun to ride and easy to fix.

Remove the key. Pull the key up one notch to turn off engine power.

TY Philip! I still have a 1970 Jawa CZ 175. You have to pull the key out>

Scared that shifter right off that shaft when it saw the puller! XD Wow, that's a unique pliers/wrench combo! The Jawa is coming along nicely!

Excellent !! Was waiting for this. 2 strokes is enough for anybody !!! I've a brand new crank and gearbox bearings , pistons and everything else to start my RD350LC build . Just need a tiny amount taken off the inside of the cylinder inlets and I'm ready to rock . Hopefully get it done in the coming week !! Can't wait !!!

Nice bike, but it seems that the left cylinder gets oil from the gear box. Maybe the crankshaft seal is gone.
@andrewallen99936 жыл бұрын
Getting Nervous Can't be. No oil present in primary chain case. Oil level in gearbox side lower than crankshaft seal. Piston rings a possibility or oil master pump misbehaving.
@GettingNervous6 жыл бұрын
andrew allen Of course there is oil in the case as you can see in the manual. Do you think the primary drive and the clutch runs dry? It does not matter that the oil level is lower than the crankshaft to suck in oil. And the oil pump supplies both cylinders, so there must be smoke from both exhaust pipes. But it is only the left side.

Getting Nervous I own 4 of these motorcycles, one with a sidecar. It takes 1 litre of gear oil, seal waaay above oil level, works on splash lubrication :) Overhauled two motors with the only problem shitty Indian parts from ebay. How many do run or maintain?.

I stand corrected. Should read no oil present in primary chain case above oil seal :) I should proof read what I write

Kinda reminds me of working on my 1972 suzuki rv90, it has oil injection like that. The same thing happens to the rags in my dad's garage 😆 those white rags you have remind me of the cleaning rags we used in the dining halls I used to work in.

No choke required, that's what the float tickler is for. It allows the bowl to overflow, effectively pouring raw gas down the intake. Used to be on many two-stroke engine carbs. Nice job.

What about that seal/o-ring sitting above your pliers? I saw it come out of the carb as you were blowing it.

they're expensive. I have two sets of bi-focals, one for normal, one for computer. Sometimes I use the computer glasses for close work. An electrician posting on an engineering site, who does a lot of close overhead work, had a set of upside-down bifocals made. Clever. When I get an eye exam, I'll buy one pair of their overpriced glasses (to cover their discounted eye exam prices), and I get the rest online or about $40 for a pair of bifocals.
