Adjust your air fuel mix screw on the bottom of the carb. Back it out 2 to 2 1/2. That will stop the backfiring & Stumble.

Nice job on getting it started again. Check for a vaccum leak at carb to engine connection, Check and set proper valve clearance, clean carb jets again.

Uni filter is the only way to go with those. And I also have a 02 660. Whenever you order parts or whatever make sure it’s for the 02. They changed some things on the 03-08. You have to make sure 02

Oh another thing k&n oil filter is probably the best way to go and shell rotella t4 oil is good to use. Gotta use something suitable for wet clutch

Awesome job bringing it back, I have an 05 660 myself, it sat for a while and had a back fire issue as well, try the coasting enricher diaphram on the side of the carb, good luck

Replace the carb boots, clean jets(use a small piece of wire from a wire brush if you don’t have exactly what you need, adjust fuel/air mixture screw, definitely put a new spark plug in it. Make sure the air filter sits tight as well, some wheelers don’t run well without that restriction of the filter being on. Good luck, you have the most important parts done, just need fine tuned. I know it’s not like you have a parts store right down the road. I’ve smeared gasket maker/silicone on cracks in a boot to get me by.

I went ahead and ordered a new boot but I’ll keep that truck in mind for future projects. Thanks!

Hello i heard that it’s backfiring so I was small Engine repair so 1 clean and change the air filter 2 change a spark plug (or more ) that’s obviously did dirty or bad 3 change the fuel filter 4 you could a little fuel injector cleaner to your fuel tank to clean the fuel line 5 invest in a higher grade for the same reason as the above point

Backfire on decel is generally a lean condition. Exhaust leak, loose air boot, carb. If it has a mixture screw, try adjusting that. It could be the silencer needs repacked. Good luck.

Great job getting the Yamaha to run. A suggestion about if you re-paint it, why not paint it a nice bright colour so it would be easy to find when you are out hunting or fishing? It would also let others know you’re in the area. Orange? lol. Just an idea. You have the patience of a professional. Way to go!

Plugs & sea foam in th gas tank definately change that nasty fuel filter & line. Run as much as possible with a full tank of fuel w sea foam & it should run better. Also check the vent cap on the fuel tank if that isnt letting air in it wont let fuel out. Good luck

@@ouralaskahomestead 2nd the Sea Foam stuff. That stuff seems to work well on these smaller engines

My mom's 2007 Honda Rancher sat for ~6 years. Dad had to go through the entire fuel system including the injectors. They were all gummed up. He got it running again but it was a pain. Not sure if it had ethanol in the gas or not but he uses Sea Foam in his engines if they aren't going to get used for more than 6 months.

Remember your at sea level which is 0 and at the most 200 ft above sea level .... I'm sure your air mixture screw etc is adjusted to wherever it came from and look into the Pilot a bigger pilot inside the carb not much bigger ! New Spark Plug and air cleaner ! , check places it can suck air , also look inside the rubber boot area that holds your airfilter , New Gas ! There's your dinner , and it's all easy stuff try one at a time then test if you need more help , just ask .... Peace ! The Last Frontier ! Amen !

We’re at 160’. It could be that. I have a new plug, boot, fuel line and filter coming, im gonna try those first but I’ll keep that in mind. It’s definitely possible. Thanks!
@MrDaveR-uq7iq6 ай бұрын
Yes probably it , turn air mixture screw a 1/4 turn and ride listen to response ! If little better then another 1/4 turn until it's good .... remember where you started incase that isn't it so you can return . Careful with Google because your at 160ft only always keep that in mind ! Call Yamaha and pick the mechanics brain ! Your guesses are probably better ! Ha ... but you might get lucky !

Im going to BET that the fule filter is stopped up and that the leaking fuel line isnt helping... I would replace those both first.... Before pulling that carb again. Hope that helps !

If you still feel it is the jets i would replace them instead of cleaning . But let them soak over night in break clean will clean them if you go that route.
