FET is a Field Effect Transistor which is a transistor that can handle a lot of power without being large. Great job finding the ONE wire that prevented the whole shebang! For use in cars, I would recommend a butt-splice then put hot melt glue on either side of the splice, THEN heatshrink around the entire mess to keep it waterproof. Especially sitting under the fender-based air intake.

You could splice it to itself there is a small tool you can pull that pin, cut it back connect a new piece of wire put a new end on it and pop it back and put it back together. We did that all the time in the dealership I worked for Ford for a long time, real common to snip it back, jump it together, put a new end on it, pop it back in the harness.

You are one hell of an detective. All that trouble over one wire. With the rest of the wires being good why would one single wire be corroded? It wasn't anywhere near anything that would leak on it or get it pinched. Go figure. Glad you found the problem. You worked on it long and hard enough. Hope it will be a good runner for you.

It's reminds me of working on the neighbors. 2004 f150 after watching 3 videos of not starting. I cleaned and remounted two ground wires on the door pillers . ( Door pillers rusted out ) and it didn't ground the dash cluster to start the engine. Diagnose - I have learned a good starting point. you can check for power and ground at the electrical device to determine if the part is bad or bad wire. With out a wiring diagram. Thank you for your videos 🎉

Absolutely OUTSTANDING!! You have much more patience than I would ever have, attempting to diagnose what was wrong with this. I installed a wiring harness under the dash of my '55 Chevrolet one time many years ago but it was nowhere near as complicated as this fuel system wiring. I really like that old truck and I think it will give you years of good service if it becomes your daily driver. Do you think you will ever turn your attention to that Thunderbird that is sitting in the weeds?

I was wondering what was becoming of the truck. Looks like it is turning out okay for you. Those electrical problems can be really frustrating.

I would make a big bet on the fact that some Ferd Technician was chasing a fuel problem and used a test light that hooks the wire and then a pin penetrates the wire to make the test light work. It would have been quick to reach without having to raise the truck to get to the fuel pump control module. Those pin prick testers have been the bane of many problems. On our fleet of trucks, an old mechanic had one and he had the habit of testing the wiring harness that went from the cab wiring junction box to the lights on the back. The more the wires would corrode apart the more pinpricks he made. I ended up buying new wiring harnesses for short semi-trailers and simply replacing the rear harnesses on each truck in the fleet to stop the trucks from getting stopped by DOT inspections for having a light out. You are lucky you did not have to remove a fender to get to some connector. That is a common necessity for many modern trucks, ESPECIALLY to get to the turbocharger (common $5,000 failure on Ferd diesel trucks) on Ferd diesel trucks. You need to get a sticker to put on that truck saying "The Rooster chased the WIREY Fox out of this chicken coop" The Ferd dealership computer reader would probably print out for the Technician where to test voltages. In this case, the dealership would price out a whole new harness as repairs to the wire would be too prone to future failures and also not as profitable as selling a $1,000 harness. You need to get a sticker to put on that truck saying "The Rooster chased the WIREY Fox out of this chicken coop" Now you need to cover your rear end... GREAT VIDEO and maybe you will have a good truck that you can fill with the horizontal surface disease.

Rusty, crusty ground contacts sure do seem to plague late model pickup trucks, whether they are under the hood or on the underside of the bodies. I wonder if all of these contact points used copper or brass wire leads, bolts, nuts and washers this could be avoided. I can't imagine it would break the bank for automakers if they did this. Also, I agree with you that just relying on the areas where threads of bolts make contact is a pretty half-ass attempt at making sure there is a good ground.
