Hey Barry, in America we have Slush Puppies all though finding a shop with a machine is the hard part!!! I live in Washington state and the closest one is in IDAHO! About 3 hours from me, I grew up drinking them, we also have another drink similar called Slurpee's sold at our shop called 7-11!!! I noticed this machine makes more of a Slurpee and an actual Slush Puppie, Slush Puppies are typically small pieces of Ice like rice !!!

@@jacquizzlemons1980 Yup, that's how I've seen most bars do it (mostly for those fancy pre-made "umbrella" cocktails, like Pina Colada and the like.). They add the liquor/cocktail mix to the cup first than pour the slushie mix into the cup. It gets pretty mixed into it as it goes in but I guess you could give it a big stir to make sure it's all evenly distributed.

Yeah, the main issue was the lack of sugar in the mix for some of those. Sugar inhibits the crystallization, allowing it to get to the proper texture and not just as a sheet of ice. Alcohol does the same thing. Was a pastry chef where we did fun ice creams and gelato.

Salt and Ice have a strange relationship. In Victorian times they would use it to make more ice or ice cream. Mixing salt and Ice melts it but actually makes it colder for a bit I think so you add water and it duplicates the ice. Idk exactly how it v works but it was in a Sherlock Holmes game

Chemistry lesson time! As what you read said, sugar (usually used to indicate sucrose, but in the case of syrups could be high fructose corn syrup, which is a mixture of glucose and fructose, the two component molecules of sucrose) does, indeed, inhibit freezing by interfering with water molecules bonding together. Salt (aka sodim chloride, or NaCl) does the same thing, but it's even more efficient at lowering the freezing point, since when it dissolves in water it separates into sodium and chloride ions, both of which interact with the water molecules and prevent hydrogen bonding. The sugar molecules, while still dissolving in water, don't separate into ions, so there isn't as much interaction. And that, kids, is the joy of colligative properties!

yes salt is like that. Thats how salting your walkway works. It doesnt melt the ice so much as it lowers the freezing point thus requiring it to be colder out before the walkway freezes. Freezing point depression and boiling point elevation.
