Bloody awesome! I love seeing old iron brought back to life!!! I was going to suggest looking at the injectors in regards to the miss / knock, but from reading the comments, you're already fully aware of this (and more). Looking forward to the update!!

I'd love to have an Inter Drott loader. I drove one on a farm when I was a farmhand, in my youth, and it was ever so much fun.

@johnkauppi7078

@@beyondbackyardcustoms3427 It could be a few things . The one I drove had a shuttle shift lever, forwards, backwards. If the shuttle is hydaulic and and not moving when engaged it could be lack of not enough oil in transmission and not enough rpm. If its a mechanical shuttle, then the shuttle clutches could be burnt out.Then there is a torque ampifier drive transmission. For that to work properly that engine must be revving above 1500 to 2000 rpm. Oil level in transmission is crucial. It must be full. Good luck from Australia.

Thanks mine is mechanical and when you shift it from forward to neutral the shaft start spending a little bit butt in gear it stops I do think it's still low in fluid do you know how much fluid is supposed to be in it or what is full

@@beyondbackyardcustoms3427 I never had transmission trouble with the one I drove. Knowing Inters, they they have a small plug that screws into the side of the transmission. Thats the full level plug. About half way up the side. Undo that and fill tranny till oil comes out. Or there could be a dip stick on its own or on the underside of the filler plug.

Good God Man!!! Where is your •STARTING FLUID•? Old engines down on compression need a little boost! I ran a large steel salvage boat on the Great Lakes. It had a freshly rebuilt Jimmy 8V71. Every morning, first start, One 2 second blast of ether down the supercharger intake. What do YOU do first thing in the morning? Start that coffee pot. Same here. You will soon be buying a starter as well. You’re adding YEARS of wear, and overheating with so much repetitive cranking so close together. 20 seconds total cranking, 5 minutes to cool. Good Luck…. But please try the ether. It works wonders! PS: I have 2 50 year old Farmall gas engine tractors. Other than summertime, they too require a shot of starting fluid in the intake pipe. Be sure with GAS engines, that you OPEN THE CHOKE to allow the ether to enter the carb. After it fires on the ether, THEN you can quickly reapply the choke if necessary. There is also now ELECTRIC MATS (all different sizes) to place under your BATTERY/s to give you full cranking power when cold. Of course the coolant line heater as well. Both run on 120V AC. Again… Good Luck!🍀

When I'm first starting something that's been sitting I want everything free so it's spinning over easy and lubed up before it fires. Now that it's been run it starts right up, time to dig into it, diagnose the knock and get it running better.

10 months late on this video but im guessing a valve or valve train issue on 1 cylinder from the whooshing sound when cranking. * then the ticking after it starts...

I'm suprised this don't start off of gas. Most of those old IH that's how they started. Either works wonders
@jerkofalltrades5430
@jerkofalltrades5430 Жыл бұрын
These never started on gas and I don't use Ether on stuff that's been sitting and has no lubrication on the parts. If a diesel needs ether it has a problem that needs to be fixed or it's just worn out.

Get some Lucas oil retore stabilizer fuel or Seafoam for the fuel also drain that tank might have a lot of crud It sounds like she no spinning fast enough again dirty oil friction I use 15w-40 in all my equipment except my old tractor it runs 40w in summer 15-40 winter engine worn out

The fuel is clean and has some ATF in it to lube things up. The starter is weak, I had it rebuilt and they found some burnt windings so it barely turns fast enough to start it. I haven't been revving it up because the knock gets really loud, these International engines have blind bolts instead of thru bolts and nuts or studs on the rod caps and they are known for loosening and tossing a cap. The fix is to swap in studs and safety wired nuts. I'm going to pull the pan and check the lower end before I go further and if it all looks good I'll pull the injectors to test them.

It has a flapper on the exhaust and I have the hood. I'm about to dig back into the ol girl and see what's causing the knock, it's not running smoothly on all cylinders so it could just be a bad/stuck injector. There will be at least a couple more vids on the beast soon so stay tuned.

You not supposed to run your engine with the glow plugs on that will do damage to your engine you supposed to use the glow plugs to preheat the engine turn them off then crank the engine
@jerkofalltrades5430
@jerkofalltrades5430 2 жыл бұрын
Not according to the International Harvester manual. It says to leave them on for the first 30 seconds that it's running and all the antectotal info I find on these says to glow them even longer than the manual states. These are low compression diesels with pre-ignition chambers. Also glow plugs are not engine pre-heaters, their function is to ignite the fuel/air mix until the engine has generated enough heat for the compression to ignite it.

Not a good idea on these, they have pre-ignition chambers. Plus if it needs ether there is probably something wrong. The ol girl probably had stuck rings and/or valves and it needs attention paid to the injectors.

In my experience on A construction job for over 20 years and at my ranch at times I needed to use some kind of starter fuel and if A person doesn't apply to much It doesn't harm the engine's in the winter months
