Same here. I really have no background in working on cars at all, I only know the basics that most people know. One thing I can see is the older vehicles are probably a lot easier for a mechanic to work on, so much more room and less crap to fix.

Many years ago I was trying to adjust the timing on a 49 flathead. Had a 80 year old neighbor, was watching, and he asked for a glass of water, I thought he was thirsty, he said now put the glass of water on top of the breather. He said now rotate the distributor until the water was level is not wavy. That was amazing. Keep up the restorations.

Back when I was a kid in the early 80’s over here in Mississippi, I had to help my Daddy haul pulp wood a lot. Daddy would go out and find old international about like this one, get her going, work the dog out of her, and started over with another. Watching these videos take me back to my childhood.

I used to drive one of them when I was a kid it could do 70 Mph easily. I love watching your videos. I had a tight motor once and I ended up using 36 volts on to a 6 volt starter and then it fired up .

I’ve lost count on how many of your videos I’ve watched these last few years, but I’ve got to say that this truck is one of my favorites. It wanted to run. I have had many of attempted pranks where they show some scary face in the middle of a quite video and I never flinched. You broke that motor free and I ducked and almost filled my pants! 😮 I have done that several times myself and I still can’t contain my reaction of both the joy of the engine turning and the horror of all of the stuff shooting out of the cylinders. My Dad drove a 49' up the Alcan Hwy in 1959 pulling a 35-foot Detroiter house trailer. It never missed a beat. My mom followed behind with us kids in a 58' Chev station wagon.

Was that your special elixir of ATF and ACETONE? Wow! That was nothing short of remarkable. Thank you for showing your simplified steps to getting it to fire up. I really liked the part where you heat the sparkplugs up and douse them with penetrating ole. The cooling action sucks the oil down along the threads. I watched a spring shop do that to U-Bolts and Nuts and they reused them a lot of times. I'd like to add 2 things if I may: 1). My first thing to try is use about a 3' long prybar with a nice flat end and pry between the bellhousing and the starter ring gear teeth. I'm not too sure how to calculate the mechanical advantage, but it's way way more than going on the front dampener bolt or driveshaft. 2). If I can get it to turn over 2 whole revolutions, I don't bother with compression testing, carb or anything else, I gear up for spark and use starting fluid to give it a try. Most of the time if even 1 cylinder "helps" it will eventually speed up the cranking and go on up to several hundred rpms and from there light off. I hold it to only a few thousand rpms until it heats up the whole engine. Then shut off and cool down. After a couple heat cycles I usually have almost all the cylinders helping out. That's just my way of making the initial determination of conditions. If I don't hear rods knocking or see blow'd head gaskets, I consider the next level of investigation. I have a 1949 International KB2. I purchased it restored and was always curious of what it might have looked like prior to it's restoration. I think your example is probably pretty close. Now I've never owned a international before so to watch these video's helps me if I was ever to have run-ability issues with mine. So, thank you for that! Also, you don't see a bunch of these trucks around and they are not super popular so when I see a video of one I watch it. You never know what you might learn about these ol'girls. Keep the video's coming.. I thoroughly enjoy them.!

Another fabulous/entertaining video. I have a theory..... You had a relative that owned a wrecking yard. When you were 12, 13, 14 you would spend your Saturdays in that yard equipped with a battery, can of starting fluid and a jug of gasoline. As far as conveyance a picture you with a little red wagon or maybe a golf cart. It was your joy, pleasure, entertainment to see which car or truck you could get running again. I would have loved that. Am I remotely close?

Excellent video Jennings :) your not only got Sprayed by motor I had one do to long time and plus smoked tons to it was Desiel motor on leaking manifold need rebuilt motor in tractor yes need bath after plus soap with water too! Was on farm tractor one to it so funny and head mechanic told me it slobbering beast ! Yes fun for sure and I seen some drain plug be hell time take off and rust up bad to take off!

I like them old trucks I drove 3 old Chevy when I was young a 1951 292 6 cyc 2 ton with pancake hi and low rear-end a 53 1 ton with a 216 babbitt rod 6 cyc a 59 fleetside 3/4 ton with a 235 6 cyc miss them old days and them old trucks
