In the Khaos Reigns trailer, I noticed there were no kameos with Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot. I don't remember the story mode having no kameo available in a few chapters(?). Could we be getting a 1v1 based on that? Might be a stretch.

Great chat! I believe that NRS for some reason can never get that sweet spot for offensive and defensive mechanics and it makes many of their games very one note. I loved MKX but boy was that game annoying if you were trying to defend against anything as it was just guess after everything. Then you had MK11 which slowed things down too much and had too many powerful defensive options that rewarded players for getting hit and randomly dropping out of combos. Now you have MK1 which is kind of going back to the MKX but is some how more annoying because of the assists covering a characters entire weak spots, making each match kind of play out the same way. I've recently started playing the Granblue Rising game and upon getting deep into its system mechanics and really enjoying it, it really opened my eyes to why MK games get stale faster then others. I believe it is lack of universal system mechanics that all characters can use to their advantage. For example in GB Rising every character has a guard crush attack (to break the opponents block), a block counter (like a push block get off of me style move), a spot dodge and forward invincible dash,....etc and every character has their own gimmicks on top of those systems. Even though GB can have some very aggressive and offensive play, the defender has MANY options to get out of that pressure if they have the resource or make the right reads/reactions. In MK1 you literally have to HOLD everything outside of using a combo breaker. In MK1 there is just lack of defensive options to counter the overly safe play of using assists to cover every blind spot a character may have. I use to be a huge MK fan but man after MK1 and some of the character/story decisions I'm mostly a spectator now to see if there is any hope for this game in my eyes.

2v2 is worse than assists ? Why would anyone even want that other than just complaining to complain. I could see wanting a 1v1 mode, but it's not happening. They wanted to try something new, so they built a 1v1 fighter with assists. The game is fine it just needs more characters, customization, updates, and invasions improvements

And if they've been working on it, sure, those modes could come in like year 3, but year 1 and 2 is a stretch if they are starting from scratch imo. I personally don't think a 1v1 or 2v2 mode "saves" this game. People are going to complain regardless, and that takes time away from game balance updates, new characters, character reworks, etc
