Just for the love of durian, I think you can qualify to be a Singapore citizen (ha!ha!). You are right about eating durian in its natural form rather than durian ice cream, cake etc etc as there is no comparison. Strange it may sound, you can see there is a certain method in eating durian. The stall owner suggested that you only open each segment as and when you are ready to continue eating. This is to prevent exposing the durian seeds to the air, causing them to lose their flavour. I think by now you would have worked it out, NOT to buy durians shrink wrapped on a foam tray, like when you had your first taste a few years ago, live and learn. Your perseverance with durian has paid off, big time. This now qualifies you to be a durian connoisseur I reckon :-) Wish I could be there sharing your durian and like any food; eating in company does makes the fruit taste better…..yum!

@@intheworldofmari nooooo. it starts to ripen and lose flavour. that is the reason why Penang durians don't sell here. too far to drive it in. many varieties are from Johor or transplanted to Johor plantations. Don't confuse flavour with simple cold texture.

I suppose if you eat them at home, it's fine. If you came out to eat it, it'll be problematic to remove the smell from your hands. So, for the sake of the poor fellows around her, who cannot tahan the smell, she should wear gloves. :p
