Nice one! The audio on the headphones is the same regardless of what card is picked and there is nobody watching from the wings and no secret cameras! The trick could have had the instructions on a cassette or even written down. I am sure he said "wave your arms" and "say MAGIC in a magical voice" etc... When Penn says "you spent a long time looking at those butterflies" it seems enough to me to count as a bust, but I guess the important thing isn't the butterfly, per se, in this case.

Amazing trick, great performance, and brilliant idea to have Alyson do the final reveal. I've seen all this guy's Fool Us tricks, and they are all great and different. I like to try to figure out how these FU performances were done, and I have some ideas. From Ondrej's second appearance on FU, we learn 2 things - Penn tells us that the deck on his first appearance was "gimmicked" in some way, and Penn also specifically mentions "Teller even, when he shuffled the cards, went so far as to turn them around, just to be a ." So that gives us a clue that the direction that the cards are facing is important too. Penn does an overhand shuffle and then a rifle shuffle, neither of which look like they would have disturbed the direction of the cards. Could it be as easy as the 8 of hearts was inserted back into the deck upside down? But Penn could have easily shuffled the cards in a way that would have messed up their directions and ruined the whole trick. It would be pretty risky for the trick to depend on that. We also know from Ondrej's 3rd performance on FU that he loves to use technology to his advantage, and obviously has some way to queue up a certain video clip according to which cards were chosen. Likewise, he had some way to queue an audio clip to tell Alyson which card to pull out from the deck. I see a lot of people speculating that there was a camera somewhere that could see which card was missing when he spread them out and asked Penn to "confirm that all the cards were different." I doubt that a camera was involved - he didn't spread the cards out enough for a camera to see all of them. There are plenty on either side that the camera couldn't see. Maybe there was a camera facing upwards that saw the card as Penn put it back in the deck, but then he wouldn't need the gimmick deck in the first place. Did Ondrej record an audio clip for every possible card in the deck that Penn could have picked? It's entirely possible, but he doesn't fiddle with the ipod long enough to scroll through 52 tracks. He either sent a quick message like "8H" to somebody who was talking to Alyson, or he forced the 8 of Hearts on Penn and there was only one audio track. I doesn't look like a force though, and even Penn says he's pretty sure it wasn't a force... Penn and Teller think he "saw" something in the cards after Penn put the card back, but Ondrej hardly looks at them, and also Penn immediately shuffles the cards after putting his card back in the deck. Some people think he "felt" Penn's card but he also barely touches it after Penn puts it back in the deck. I suspect that it wasn't a force and somehow Ondrej figured out which card Penn had picked by using the gimmick deck and the orientation of the card Penn put back in, and signaled an operator to play the appropriate audio clip, but I've been over this clip, his other clips on FU, read all the comments, and I still can't figure out how he did it...
@vic65644 жыл бұрын
I was one of the people that said he felt it and you don’t need more than a second to know what card it is if it’s marked. So I don’t see how he barely touching it makes it impossible. Also the quote you gave of Penn turning the cards doesn’t prove anything. When did he confirm orientation had anything to do with it? The only thing that confirms is that Penn was rude for turning around the deck in case the trick had to do with orientation.

@andrewlaforce38382 жыл бұрын
Since its been a year, and a number of years since the show. I can't say I know the trick definitively. Going based off this video alone, he didn't really handle the deck all that much. Didn't manipulate the deck in any fancy way, or in any way that would matter in knowing what the card was or where it was. In fact, if I am correct in the way it was done neither of those things are even necessary meaning not even he knew what card it was until the end. This trick is essentially a big gamble in having your chosen random performer in getting it right not that it would be hard, but they would still need to do it correctly. Alright, so the way I see this being possible and the only clue I have managed to gather from the video is that it was really important that he told Penn to not let anyone else see it but himself. Natural reaction or response to this would be to grip the card and hold it close and is actually vital to the trick. Alright, my educated answer on this would be that the cards respond to heat. The more he held the back of the card, the front where the suit is at, it would change colors or have some indicator shown on the other side through it from the heat on the back that would allow the random performer to know what card it was hence Allison looking through the cards the way she was and why he didn't handle the deck all that much and held them with just his fingertips so as to not cause other cards to change colors or have some indicator appear. This also means, there wasn't 52 alternate audio files, just a single audio file that clearly states what to look for, and to tell the performer to do some random actions and voila.
@iqless73132 жыл бұрын
It 100% has to do with the direction of the cards. Right before he fans the deck at 2:40 he turns them around, reverting the direction. It's very risky to have Penn shuffle & put the card back in the deck, though, he could easily have changed the direction

I think I figured this one out. Two decks. Pen picks a card from deck A. When the magician flips the cards back over after showing pen "they are all different" 2:46 you can see he could put deck A up his sleeve and replace it with deck B. Then the audio just tells the audience member to look for the card which is different. This is why the listener wasn't teller.

@@shrikanthpai6604 I thought deck swap too at first and he was trying to lead Penn to believing card was forced or marked using different butterflies or that he was gonna try and pull a deck swap. But was free choice and marked going back in so recording just told how it was marked. That's why he asked about clarifying how they were marked and teller told him patterns on back. It could be slight cut or bent corner or tiny sticker she removed when sliding it out.

yup the cards were marked but not in the way Penn and teller thought, maybe he told Allison on the headphone to what to look for in the deck.
