Geno is a 34 year old vet with one of the best WR corps in the NFL and he's currently on pace to have roughly the same numbers as our current back up had in his first season as a starter at age 23, not only was it Howell's first season as a starter, it was for a team with less weapons at WR, a worse RB and an equally terrible O-line. Trading Geno or letting him walk will save Seattle 25m in cap space, even after the 13 million dead cap hit. What happens if Seattle extends Geno for even more money and he keeps regressing? Then they're stuck with him or suffer a much larger dead cap hit.

Signing either one to a market value deal would be detrimental to the organization. DK is not a WR1. Sure, he's the X, but he doesn't command coverage to the rate in which he wants to be compensated. Geno is an above average bridge at this point in his career. I said it prior to the season and I'll continue to say it. Draft both of their replacements, franchise DK.

@@DaneOrschlovsky His cap hit next year would be 32M if they don't restructure, can't franchise him until 2026 and he has a 7M Void year that year, extending him would cause his cap next year to be significantly lower and his cap in 2026 to potentially be lower. If we want to move him next off season in a trade it would be 21M in deadcap space, either way we're basically forced to restructure or take a huge hit to our cap next year

What is true, is that Geno was asking for a larger contract last offseason and John and the new staff declined, then they let a serviceable backup in Lock walk, then traded for a 24 year old Howell. @@evanvargas3170 Stats are what gets you paid in the NFL stats are what gets you a job in the NFL the only time stats don't tell the whole story is when fans are trying to justify why their favorite player should get to keep playing. I am looking at it from a pure lets find a way to put the best product on the field scenario. Yes this year we are probably stuck with Geno although I believe Sam could do the same maybe better and is younger. But in the future no he does not deserve a raise nor an extension not when you are the mid 20s rated QB in every category but yards and that is only because we throw almost 60% of the time.
