Having been in both healthy and unhealthy relationships, i can safely say: 'you cannot fix something that doesn't work'. That being said, sometimes the healthiest thing one can do is let go before the realtionship destroys you, and/or your spouse. To not make this discretionary call when you can, ultimately results in everyone else around you going down as collateral damage.

I try not to be judgmental, but for a grown man, in his 50s, to be talking about having, a harem, is considered "juvenile". It seems that a lot of black people, ultimately, go into a cycle of "adolescence", or self indulgence, that we can not break out of. It is a harsh reality that most black men and black women, today, have never seen an intact and traditional marriage between black men and black women. When I mention the words "intact" and "traditional", I mean a union in which a black man and woman are legally married, living under the same roof, and all the children are conceived and born in wedlock. To a lot of today's black men and women, THESE aspects of marriage are considered an "alien way of existing". It seems that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are trying to "re-define" the concept of marriage. Kind of like shooting a man then blaming the victim for "getting in the way of the bullets". I see, now, why the Smith's children have a host of emotional and behavior issues. Whether you are black, white, or purple, TRUST and LOYALTY are the basic foundations for any happy marriage. Without "trust" and "loyalty", the foundation will crumble.

Came here after the Oscar’s incident. He’s clearly a broken man in an emotionally abusive relationship. The most telling thing in this clip to me was the 40th birthday party he was planning for her. He said he started planning it after her 37th birthday, so he worked on it for 3 years. He clearly loves her deep down. But then she crushes him by saying it was the biggest display of his ego. He’s let her rule the house and it’s torn him apart, but he tries to keep it together on the surface. Tonight at the Oscar’s we saw him break.

I think that this entire situation is extremely sad all the way around. The saying "hurt people, hurt people" seems to be true. It appears that they are two individuals who are hurt, and their hurt is affecting those around them... each other, their children, other family members, Chris Rock, etc. It is heartbreaking to see them "jokingly" fist bump in "celebrating... bad marriage for life." It was just as sad to hear Will share about him planning Jada's 40th Birthday Celebration the day after her 37th Birthday, and for her to then respond to him in such an ugly way, was unbelievable and hurtful. I truly pray in Jesus' Name for their healing and for them to be delivered from their hurt, so that they are no longer hurting themselves and others.

Dude, if this was 'okay' his first wife wouldn't have wanted to divorce him when she realised he had feelings for Jada. Will just doesn't believe in divorce. He never wanted to divorce his first wife until she wanted to. His first wife knew what was up. What he has now isn't a marriage. You don't say that your marriage is 'excruciating' and describe it as the most extreme form of torture...and then still STAY THERE. That's not love. They say that they don't want marriage to be a prison for them, that it has to be 'freeing'. There's nothing liberating about this situation.

I agree it sounds like both or one of them is afraid of being alone maybe because of childhood trauma so they agree to stay and let other have sex freely with their spouse. All these years in the African American community people talked about how they were “relationship goals” Naw, this is a hot mess and if they were so strong about making marriage work the right way (Commited to God first then to their spouse and children , then friends family). Think about it that’s what the ceremony represents that you a publicly saying before everyone there you are committing to a covenant with this 1 person and forsaking all others. You don’t stand up there and say, “We’re inviting all others in our bedroom “ where’s the sanctity in marriage nowadays “ I love me some Will and Jada been following their careers since he was the fresh prince of bel air and she was on the Cosby show before A Different World. But this right here! Nasty 🤮 and Y’all need to invite God in your marriage and put all them other people out your bedroom…Will and Jada! No wonder they children want to try everything, y’all confusing them babies!!! Can we as a people just acknowledge we didn’t make ourselves and Father God (who did) doesn’t need your input on how to live a safe prosperous life. Just do it his way and marriage won’t be miserable to you. Or stay single but dang, just stop 🛑 this nonsense.

He may think he's saving their marriage, but he's actually ruining it. She'll only further lose respect for him for making concession to her. I've been there....

The reason why it was horrific for him is because he's naturally monogamous and trying to be with someone who is polyamorous. That's the struggle. Both ways of living and loving is fine, but people need to be open with their feelings and understand that sometimes we can't be with the people we lobe/care about if their primary lifestyle doesn't match our own.

Will literally does NOT admit to affairs outside of his marriage in his book, in magazine articles or tv interviews. This entire video took quotes from Will’s book along with a bunch of random tv and magazine interviews and cut and paste everything together to fit the narrative that the Smiths are not monogamous. They took everything that Will said about his marriage and relationship with Jada completely out of context. If you want the truth, buy Will’s audiobook and listen to it for yourself. Damn, it is hard to be a celebrity. The best thing to do is not say anything at all because everything you say may be used against you. I wish the Smith’s and anyone who reads this comment much love, joy and peace because we all deserve it.

Married 14 years and I couldn’t disagree more. Yes it’s your responsibility to make yourself happy, but it’s also your responsibility to not steal your partner’s happiness. Boundaries matter and if your partner has set them and you don’t care about making them happy, you’re just selfish. If your boundaries don’t make sense with your partners boundaries, don’t marry them, but if there can be compromise, THAT is love. I get that this supposedly works for some people, but it makes no sense to me. Why even get married then? Just date people. Marriage is a full body and spiritual commitment, forsaking all others and becoming a unit. When other people come in and out like a revolving door, there’s no unit there.

I think Will has hit rock bottom. If he hit Chris at the Oscars I think it was because he has many accumulated feelings and all because of his marriage and how it is that Jada handles things I think that in order to not lose her he has accepted many things, and in front of the cameras he appeared to be fine with it and that the decision was mutual, when in reality it was probably not like that. I think he is an amazing actor and person, i think he deserves better or he will end fucking his career, his life, his mrntal health, for a woman who is not worthy.
